Running might be out :(

I am a long time runner and have had periods of absence while I train for other things. But have overall been running for the vast majority (17 ish years) of my life. I was very comfortably running long runs (10ish miles) at a 9:10 pace in December. Nothing crazy but I wasn’t training for a run just keeping up endurance. I am now 19 weeks….holy shit it’s not the endurance that’s the problem it’s my stupid SIJ. Didn’t even know she existed and will never take that dumb joint for granted ever again. I can at most jog/walk now. I feel so defeated because I really wanted to run my whole pregnancy. I’m still hitting the gym, and I’m so grateful to be able to walk outside but it’s just not the same:( anyway thanks for listening to my big fat woe is me rant.

15 weeks pregnant and my workout clothes already don't fit… where are you getting leggings + tops?

15 weeks pregnant and my workout clothes already don't fit… where are you getting leggings + tops?

15 weeks in and still trying to keep up with workouts, but my clothes are starting to fight me every step of the way

My leggings don't fit right anymore, they're either digging in or sliding down and my tops are getting awkward too… like too tight in some places but weirdly loose in others??

For anyone who stayed active during pregnancy, where are you getting your workout leggings and tops? I don't need anything expensive, just stuff that's  comfortable to move in and doesn't make me constantly adjust mid workout.

Open to anything at this point before I keep wasting money guessing lol

When did you switch fully to maternity wear?

I’m a bit confused about when people actually make the switch to maternity clothes.

Right now, I’m kind of in that in-between stage where my regular clothes still fit, but not comfortably anymore. Some things feel tight, some just don’t sit right, and I keep wondering if I should just switch already or wait a bit longer.

At the same time, I don’t want to buy a whole new wardrobe too early and then feel like I rushed it.

So I’m curious, when did you personally switch to maternity wear?

Was it based on:

  • Comfort getting worse?
  • Visible bump?
  • Or just a certain week/month?

Also, did you gradually switch or go all in at once?

Would really help to hear real experiences because I feel like I’m overthinking this.

did hot workout classes before finding out i was pregnant…. anxious

i attended a few heated workout classes before finding out i was pregnant and i am feeling anxious/worried about it. each class is an hour long and temperature in the room goes up to like 103-105 degrees F

the times i went are below in this format (date: how many weeks/days pregnant)

march 16, hot HIIT: 0 weeks, 6 days

march 18, hot HIIT: 0 weeks, 8 days

march 19, hot vinyasa yoga: 0 weeks, 9 days

march 30, hot HIIT: 2 weeks, 4 days

april 8, hot HIIT: 4 weeks, 1 day

april 13, hot HIIT: 4 weeks, 6 days

i am currently 6 weeks pregnant and started taking prenatal vitamins two days ago and immediately quit vaping nicotine when i tested positive last thursday at 5 weeks and 2 days.

i cant stop overthinking this and realizing the risks i put my baby in through the intense heat and the nicotine.

Off topic but pls help! Prenatal without B vitamins

Hi! I've been taking reg supplements and exercising pre-pregnancy and have continued with a healthy lifestyle since becoming pregnant. This one thing is really frustrating me.

I've found over the last year or so that B vitamins (mostly B12) give me horrible cystic pimples on my face. Turns out this is somewhat common-- who knew?! I forgot about it when I started taking my prenatal and have been wondering why my skin is in horrible condition and so painful. Has anyone had this issue and found a prenatal without B complex? Or had to take a combo of supplements in lieu of a prenatal for another reason/allergy and could provide the list? Midwife is open to working with me on this just looking for some guidance if anyone has been through it.

Pregnancy Friendly Core

Anyone have a good YouTube video or free resource with pregnancy safe core workouts? Struggling to find a routine that works for me.

ETA: any time I do the “bear hold” I get really bad coning. Am I doing something wrong?

Jump Rope

I know jumprope is typically not recommended while pregnant, but curious for those of you who incorporate it into your routine - do you think it prepared you/your pelvic floor well? How soon postpartum were you able to return? Was it helpful in your recovery once you were cleared to get back into it?

do i really have to do prenatal yoga?

Everything i have read says prenatal yoga is SOOOOO good for you, but nothing seems to say why. Does anyone know if it's about strength building or stretching/ injury prevention? I am finally feeling ok and ready to get back to my regular routine (pilates, running, weights)

I am a little annoyed about the idea of adding prenatal yoga. Even though I have done a lot of yoga in the past and I know it can feel incredible, I can't get over the feeling that it's not as much of a workout.

How are others approaching this? Yoga every week? every day? once a trimester? Skip in favor of deadlifts?

Workouts during pregnancy in preparation for c-section?

I would like to focus on my deep core as well as my glutes. In all honesty, this pregnancy has taken a toll on me and I miss being strong. What workouts and routines helped aid you in your c section recovery?

How long were you dilated before giving birth?

I’m currently 36+6 and requested a cervical exam at my appointment yesterday—my doctor almost didn’t do it, but I was able to convince her to check once I told her I have a family history of quick labors so I wanted to be extra cautious. I’m 1 or 2 cm dilated and my cervix is “definitely softening.” I definitely feel pressure in my pelvic area.

Curious how long others were dilated before going into active labor! I know it could be anywhere from days to weeks, but wanted to hear some anecdotal advice!

Also…can I still do some light walk/jog intervals at this point, or give up on any semblance of running? I’ve been walking/hiking/lifting and I feel good when exercising, but know I’ll have perpetual pressure just because the baby is so low now.

Trying to prep for labor but feeling kinda lost… is a birthing ball worth it or nah?

Lately I’ve been feeling all the third trimester discomfort creeping in (pelvic pressure, lower back pain, the usual),and honestly, with my due date getting closer, I really want labor to go as smoothly as possible, so I figured it's time to actually start prepping, not just managing the pain. That's what got me looking into birthing balls recently.

Right now I’m stuck between BabyGo and Momcozy. They seem pretty similar overall, but Momcozy is a bit more expensive and comes with an app + guided programs. Tbh that’s the part I’m tempted by… I’m kinda lazy when it comes to routines lol, so having something structured I can just follow sounds nice. Feels like it might actually help me stay consistent and use the ball properly to get baby into a better position.

At the same time I’m also wondering if all that extra stuff actually makes a difference, or if a basic ball would do the same thing. Curious if anyone here has tried the Momcozy one and how it felt in real use.

Other cardio options?

I'm 32 weeks and think I need to give up running 😭 it's just so hard on my hips. I have a peloton bike but I get bored if it's more than 2x a week. I still lift 3 days a week and walk at least 2-3 miles every day. Any other suggestions for cardio? I can tell my mood is being affected by not having the cardio high!

nipples burning when running

Hi! I am in my 2nd trimester and still running! I sometimes experience extreme nipple burning during runs, when I mentioned this to my dr during the first trimester she blamed hormones and said it would go away by the 2nd trimester. I am 22 weeks and no relief yet! has anyone experienced and what have you found to help? Interested in maybe some silicone breast feeding /nipple covers but not sure what would stay in place! If you have any advice I am interested!

Mom keeps arguing with me about exercise…

Hi everyone,

It’s my first, I’m 5w3. I used to moderately work out before getting pregnant, light jogging, dancing and hot yoga. I’ve continued the light jogging and want to do some light dancing, but my mom keeps arguing with me to not do any exercise at all.

I can’t seem to find anything to support her 40 year old thinking. How do you deal with this generational clash? It’s honestly causing me stress, the arguing each time I mention I went for a jog or biked to work (4km). It’s only the beginning of the pregnancy so I’m worried about enduring 8 months of this… Yikes.

Body composition in early pregnancy

Hey guys, I think I’m feeling a little self conscious with the changing bod 😂😭 and I know how bad this sounds!! More so just want to hear of those in the same boat. But brief history I loosely tracked macros and easily did 13k steps average daily, 2x Pilates, 3x weights per week. I had 1st and 2nd abs when I got pregnant right 😂 I just wanna know, if the extra soft belly fluff I now have at 12 weeks is hormonal and normal and did you guys get it too? I have probably been under eating, maybe not the right foods (aversions) and few weeks didn’t get all my weights and steps. I need to go easy on my self I know, but I wonder, is it hormones or is it something I’m doing/not doing? Thank you guys. 💘

Can't walk, other options?

Hi friends,

This is my third pregnancy, second trimester. I can't go on walks, I get debilitating sciatica that leaves me almost immobile. The Internet says walking helps but 10/10 times across 3 pregnancies it's my trigger.

I know I'm not the only one out there.

What other cardio wouldn't hurt? I don't have access to a pool (the dream, trust me) and I have a home gym set up. I've been lifting upper body and doing some squats.

I have to chase around 2 toddlers so I can't just try anything and see how it goes. The toddlers get pissed when I'm not at full capacity.

I've been thinking about biking but again, I'm scared.

How did you prepare for pregnancy? Would you do anything differently?

Hi! I’m planning to start to TTC in about a year, my plan is to use this time to try to get just generally as fit as possible. Right now I run 3x a week getting ~ 15 miles total but I’m trying to work that up to 20 miles. I also lift 2x a week, focusing on compound movements like squats, deadlifts & pull ups with isolation exercises sprinkled in as well. Main goal there is to just keep lifting heavier weight. I’ve also started working with a pelvic floor PT as a more proactive approach (and also to develop the relationship incase I do run into issues while pregnant/in postpartum).

Nutrition wise, haven’t looked into it too much, I currently just try to eat a variety of whole foods, get enough protein and fiber. My Primary care doctor told me to start taking a prenatal 6 months out from TTC to so that’s pretty much all I was planning on adding.

I wanted to reach out to this community to see if there was anything you wish you had done (or could have done) differently leading up to your pregnancy? Would there be anything you would add/change to what I’m currently doing?

I have a lot of anxiety around the body changes/possible loss of function when it comes to pregnancy/postpartum so I’m trying to set myself for the best possible outcome. I know a lot of things are outside my control but preparing my body and my mental fortitude are things I can work on now so I’m trying to focus my energy there.
