Ventral hernia scheduled

I just scheduled my ventral hernia repair for the end of June. My concern is that I have a vacation scheduled for beginning of August. I really want to get this done and taken care of because it is uncomfortable and I wear a belly band brace a lot of the time. I’ve had 2 c-sections, is the discomfort similar to that? Just wondering if I should push it back at all.

Lump under bikini line

Could this lump be a hernia? i feel a pressure going down my leg.. Otherwise, my transvaginal ultrasound two months ago was normal, so I assume nothing has happened to my ovaries.

Wtf

Had surgery 11 days ago,

First pic is from today and second pic 4 days after surgery.

The hernia was very small and they didnt use mesh. Ive seen my surgeon and she isnt sure if this is blood or a new hernia.

Shouldnt have had the surgery, it was extremely small and didnt hurt at all. This ”ball” is crazy and hurts when I touch it.

Pregnancy after hernia repair + diastasis surgery: how did it go, and do you regret doing surgery before being done having children?

Hi, I’m 34 and developed severe diastasis recti after pregnancy 2.5 years ago. Despite a lot of physiotherapy and rehab, it’s still around 4.2 cm and causes major functional problems: pain, poor balance, difficulty carrying weight, breathing issues, back pain, posture problems, and now a small painful hernia.

A surgeon told me insurance would cover hernia + diastasis repair, but advised waiting until I’m done having children. The problem is that I’m not in the right place to have another child right now, and my current condition is badly affecting my quality of life.

My first child died shortly after birth, so this is emotionally complicated too. I do hope to have children in the future, but I feel stuck between waiting for years in pain or having surgery now and risking undoing the repair with a future pregnancy.

I’d really like to hear from anyone who had a pregnancy after hernia repair and/or diastasis surgery: How did it go? Did the repair last? Did pain get worse? Did you need surgery again later? Do you regret doing surgery before finishing pregnancies? Thank you!

Open epigastric hernia repair - two incisions?

I’m 8 days post-op for an epigastric hernia, repaired open with no mesh (it was very narrow neck, around 3mm).

I had my wound check today which was the first time the dressing has come off. To my surprise, there’s a second incision above the main one. It looks like it was glued shut with the rest of the wound, so I assume it was made during surgery. The nurse didn’t comment on it, only that everything is healing well.

I’m really puzzled and concerned because nobody mentioned a second incision to me after the surgery and having called the hospital, there’s nothing in my notes. They’ve told me I should speak to my surgeon tomorrow morning when he’s in.

In the meantime, I’m freaking out a bit over it. Has anyone seen anything like this? Does anyone know why it could have been done?

7 Days Post-Op (Laparoscopic Inguinal): Feeling great and so relieved I finally did it!

I’m officially one week out from my laparoscopic right inguinal hernia repair! Honestly, I have zero pain and zero discomfort. If it weren’t for the incisions on my stomach, I wouldn’t even know I had surgery :)

I’m sleeping like a baby. My routine consists of short 15-20 minute walks throughout the day (keeping my posture nice and upright), plenty of rest, and taking it easy. Everything is going great.

I’m also doubling down on hydration (2.5 to 3 liters of water a day) and keeping my diet super clean: no sugar, no alcohol, and no greasy foods. It’s basically been lots of salad, fiber, good carbs, and portioned protein throughout the day. The swelling is already going down!

I feel so happy and relieved to have finally fixed this. I’d been suffering with this hernia since 2020, and looking back, I can’t believe I let fear make me wait so long. Fear paralyzes us and makes us play these crazy mental movies, but the reality is so different.

I’m really proud of myself for overcoming this, and my faith feels totally renewed. From the moment I walked into that OR, I just put it in God's hands, calmed my mind, relaxed my body, and trusted the process!

Recovery after hernia repair with mesh

I had lap. inguinal hernia repair eight weeks ago and had some groin aches after doing some shrub trimming and yard cleanup for a couple of hours. Ok after resting for a few days. Best to take it slow on the recovery. (it may just be an age factor- I am over 80 but in pretty good shape.

Is it normal for a surgeon to not do ultrasound/CT SCAN?

To preface, I got umbilical hernia surgery last year, April 26th. not even a week later I felt a lump, just above the repair site. I was told it was a seroma and would "resolve itself". went back for a follow up in July, lump was still there, doctor said no worries. Although I was very worried, I tried to let it go. fast forward to today, a year later I finally went to see the surgeon as the lump is STILL there and becoming more painful, and lo and behold, its another hernia.

This part is EXTREMELY frustrating because I expressed my worries to the surgeon a year ago and he insisted it was fine, didnt even offer to drain it under the assumption that it was a seroma. Now today hes telling me that its not the same lump I originally showed him, that there was initially a seroma that "resolved itself" and replaced by a new hernia, no matter how much I try to explain to him it is THE SAME LUMP. He pulled out all the stops about "ive been doing this for decades and I repair 450 hernias a month" etc. Just totally undermining my intuitive knowledge of my own body, and the fact that Ive checked this same lump every single morning upon waking up since the day it appeared. Its been the same density and in the exact same spot, only gotten bigger and caused more discomfort and now pain. There was never a place in time where the lump was not there, when the seroma could have to resolved and then formed the hernia is now there. THE LUMP WAS ALWAYS THERE. I dont know if im making sense so PLEASE forgive me, this whole situation is so devastating and I just left the surgeon office after a horrible break down and I feel like im being gaslit and lied to. There's so much more I could say about this guy and how this whole ordeal has been since the first appointment I made with him, but ill spare anyone who's made it this far.

Anyway I guess my main question is, because he is basically refusing to do any kind of CT scan or Ultrasound, is this a common practice? I was very upset with him and said many words about how he was never clear to me about the size of the hernia, or the mesh, and why were there no scans done to show exactly what was going on in my stomach? Why did we not do an ultrasound to make sure the lump was just a seroma to begin with? He claims that ultrasounds are "notoriously inaccurate" and he can feel whats going on just by touching it. But it seems that theres a huge issue going on directly at his surgery site, and he isnt making any effort to directly investigate it, and just wants me to go ahead with a 2nd surgery. I dont know what to do. Im so lost right now. I dealt with the initial hernia for 4 years and thought the surgery would make my life so much better, but literally since a week out of surgery ive been dealing with this constant lump that I know in my soul has been a reoccurring hernia all along. Its like I never got a break and went through all of this for nothing. I dont even know if I should go back to him for the next surgery but I just want to get it over with and am desperate.

Also I want to add, you can check back on my past posts on this subreddit, and see the exact post I made after I noticed the lump and was worried about it being a reoccurring hernia. This has been an issue since right after the surgery and I was completely ignored.

Weakness in the inguinal hernia area

Hi! I'm a 27F, I have two bulges that come out in the inguinal hernia area. They come out occasionally but are not always present. Whenever they come out i can push them back in. I did an ultrasound and MRI which were ordered by my family doctor and they didn't pick up anything.

I recently went to a hernia surgeon instead where he sent me to a different ultrasound specialist who is very experienced in abdominal ultrasounds. He determined that there's no hernia defect or hole, but he sees laxity or loose transversalis fascia. Surgeon said that currently no surgery is needed if I'm not experiencing pain etc. and to come back if I develop more symptoms.

Has anyone else had something similar as this? Is there something I can still do at this stage before I develop a full on hernia since it doesn't seem like there's an actual defect atm? I tried googling but there's not much information online 😥

47F 3 weeks out from surgery

I scoured this subreddit for months leading up to my surgery and found some posts to be super helpful, so I thought I'd post my experience. I had a left inguinal hernia that was visible from the outside as well as a right femoral hernia and a tiny umbilical hernia that were all laparoscopic, robotic assisted repair. The umbilical hernia was repaired with a small suture while the other two were mesh.

My biggest source of pain post surgery was the leftover gas which quite honestly was more of an issue than I had anticipated. My surgery was late in the day, so the first day I just ate dinner and then went to bed. I used prescribed pain meds for the first 3 nights at bedtime and Tylenol for a few other instances of discomfort.

The day following surgery I took miralax and a stool softener every morning and I started walking as much as I could throughout the day. I'd walk and then ice - rinse and repeat. I mostly walked indoors at first on a walking pad or a treadmill at a very slow pace.

By the the 4th day, I was walking outside for a mile at a time. I really think the walking helped SO much. Today I jogged for the first time and felt zero pain. I'm at the point where I'm itching to be back at the gym but I am following instructions and waiting for the all clear at my six week appointment.

I teach and I had the surgery over spring break while also taking off the following week. I think I would have been fine going back after a week, but I was thankful for the extra time.

This was my first surgery and I was nervous after reading so many horror stories. However, I am SO thankful I went through with the repairs and I am hopeful that in 3 weeks I will be back to status quo and back in the gym. Feel free to ask me any questions!

Could this be a inguinal hernia?

It’s sort of small and not super visible unless I’m sitting or pulling skin tight, when im sitting it almost looks like there’s a lump under/next to my balls on the same side (had this a while never looked into it) I’ve had tons of hip/lower back issues affecting my lower body training in the gym, noticed this the other night because I noticed it kinda of hurt and never noticed it before, unsure if it’s some sort of tendon or vein as it’s not on my left side, and it looks almost like the exact location of a inguinal hernia, today I was finally feeling good enough to squat, I noticed a pinching pain in the right side of my lower back/hip and I decided to power through it and try a little heavier then my warm up, immediately second rep my lower back felt immense pain. This could be unrelated sorry just ranting here.

Post-op complications after open surgery of umbilical hernia

Hello, I’ve recently discovered this sub and I’m wondering if anyone had/has similar experience as me.

Month ago (march 16) I had surgery of my umbilical hernia (about 4 cm) with mesh and I had a very bad pain in my belly button which resulted in an abscess bursting out of my belly button 10 days post-op. I was rushed to the ER, they cleaned it (kinda), prescribed antibiotics and sent me home scheduling check up for the next day.

It all seemed fine but 5 days after that, my scar got opened a bit and everything that’s been leaking from my belly button started leaking from the scar. I went to see my surgeon, he put aquacel in the hole in my scar and told me to take it out two days after. The color of the liquid changed from green, to brown and then to orange/yellowish.

On April 10th the scar closed and my surgeon said it’s healed and I’m fine now. Well, four days after that, a small bubble appeared on my scar (same place where the hole was before) and it was filled with liquid, I’m guessing seroma. But it’s getting bigger each day and I fear it will go wrong again.

I’m seeing my surgeon tomorrow but I’m sick of everybody telling me it’s fine and normal and it happens and all that. I get that but is there anyone with similar experience and how long did it take to heal properly? I talked to three different surgeons (my surgeon from the clinic where the surgery happened and two other surgeons in a hospital) and nobody is concerned but like they didn’t even do an ultrasound or anything. Is this normal? 😩

Had Left Inguinal hernia surgery in early December and I’m about 4.5 months out now. I’m trying to figure out if what I’m feeling is normal or if I should be more concerned.

The main thing is my lower left abdomen still doesn’t feel right. It’s not constant sharp pain, more like pressure, sensitivity, and this weird awareness of the area especially when I’m walking or extending my leg. Some days it feels almost normal, other days it flares up and makes me anxious.

I also have had 2 CT scans 2 months apart that didn’t show a hernia recurrence or complications, but mentioned a large stool burden, so I’ve been dealing with constipation issues too. I do have bowel movements, but I never really feel fully empty, and I’m wondering if that’s contributing to the discomfort.

On top of that, I’ve been getting some testicular aches/tenderness on and off. It’s definitely noticeable and adds to the overall discomfort and worry and makes me nauseous.

What’s been messing with me the most is how inconsistent everything is. I’ll have a decent day and think I’m finally getting better, then the next day I feel the pressure again and it kind of resets my mindset.

For anyone who’s had hernia surgery, did you still feel sensations like this 4–5 months out? Especially that awareness/pressure feeling when moving around? And did constipation or gut issues make your recovery feel worse?

Just trying to figure out what’s normal at this stage and what isn’t.

Edit: forgot to mention I had Laparoscopic Surgery with Mesh.

I had also talked to my surgeon who said I shouldn’t be feeling this and recommended I see a pain specialist for a nerve block injection which I’m not fond of hearing since to me that sounds like it’s going to be an ongoing issue that I’ll need these strong medicines for.

How long until you were pain free with shouldice method?

Had a repair for small femoral hernia 11 days ago and get agonising pain if I stand/walk for more than 5 mins. Feel ok for few minutes and then I guess gravity pushes down and the pain comes FAST. It then eases after laying down. I'm 38, F, 65kg(143lbs).

Pulling sensation four weeks post op

I had a femoral hernia surgery (open with no mesh) four weeks ago. At 3 weeks I had absolutely zero pain and was walking quite a fair amount. I went to the gym about 3 weeks 4 days in and did an hour walk at a decent pace and since then I’ve had an increase in pain and pulling sensations above the scar. it’s nothing compared to the pain at week 1 so I’m hoping it’s just the muscles adjusting and scar tissue irritated. does anyone have experience with this?

Postop week 8 and testicular pain, help and support

Post-op day 53 (7-8 weeks) of right inguinal hernia lap repair with polypropylene mesh (with 2 absorbable tacker) and I still have testicular and right abdominal pain, which has decreased slightly compared to last month (I've been taking 900mg GABA daily for 2 weeks).

However, the main problem is right testicular pain... I don't have much testicular pain when lying down, but I feel pain when I touch my testicles, when walking, or when my testicles are shaking, the pain is especially in the very bottom of the testicle; it's not as bad elsewhere. MRI, CT and ultrasound show normal testicle and epididymis; all tests are normal, the only problem is the lower pain. Is this normal, will it go away, and has anyone experienced more severe testicular pain that eventually resolved?

Looking for any positive outcomes, thanks.

[35/MTF] Been feeling pelvic aches for about 1 year. Can anyone relate to my symptoms?

https://postimg.cc/62qHVGjm

For context I'm a 35y/o male to female transsexual. I transitioned over 20 years ago and underwent surgery over 10 years ago.

In the past year I've been feeling weird aches just above my pubic bone (see image linked). To the upper left / right (red) I can feel two distinct circles where the ache is coming from. I wouldn't say it feels painful, but more like it feels achey, strained, swollen, inflamed, tight. It comes and goes.

I've also been feeling an ache just directly behind the bone and it extends a little bit above (orange). Best I can describe it is that it feels like diarrhea cramp, except this is definitely not my stomach and the pain is located much lower at my pubic area.

---

The aches come and go. Sometime I go weeks feeling fine then it starts aching for a few days in a row. I have not found any co-relation to anything yet. I don't have any problems urinating or pooping. No signs of blood or infection. My body actually feels great except for these weird aches.

I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with me for quite some time and I'm wondering if anyone here can relate to my symptoms.

Thanks!
