How long until you were pain free with shouldice method?

Had a repair for small femoral hernia 11 days ago and get agonising pain if I stand/walk for more than 5 mins. Feel ok for few minutes and then I guess gravity pushes down and the pain comes FAST. It then eases after laying down. I'm 38, F, 65kg(143lbs).

Anyone had sutures rather than mesh?

I'm day 10 after surgery, 38yo f with suspected femoral hernia. I had open surgery with spinal but unfortunately they didn't find the hernia so reinforced the area with sutures rather than mesh (which I wanted to avoid anyway).

But the pain is a lot worse than expected and wondered if anyone could share their recovery journey if they had sutures. From what I read, it can be more painful than mesh in the early days but long term less chance of chronic pain. I was managing with minimal painkillers up to day 5-7 when I started to be more mobile, light housework, short trips to the shops etc and not sure if this is what set me back.
