Sitting on a Lufthansa A-340: What is this thing next to me?
2 by 4 by 2 configuration in economy. I’m in an aisle seat, there’s a center seat next to me, and this big plastic thing next to that. Extends forward over three rows and tapers down to the floor. Seems to connect to the toilet. What is this? Crew rest bunk? Part of the galley? Extra large toilet?
FlyOne | Lowcost pricing policy surprised me again
I just finished booking my next flight. And was very surprised.
It asks for my name (nothing special) but it gives me opportunity to enter name later for 90€.
This is crazy. It's half price of a ticket with additional cabin luggage.
Is it the same in other lowcosts?
Flight cancellations out of control
I've been stuck in Cancun after two Frontier flights cancelled two days in a row. Now I need to wait another day for tomorrows flight. I need to get home!!
Help with EU compensation Lufthansa strike
I had a flight from BKK-MUC-IAD operated by Thai Airways and Lufthansa. The Lufthansa leg MUC-IAD was cancelled less than 24 hours before the scheduled flight due to the Lufthansa strike.
I had to rebook and was put on a flight with a connection that departed more than 4 hours sooner.
Would this situation qualify for EU261 compensation? Lufthansa is saying no but I thought it did since it departed more than 1 hours than my previously scheduled flight and it was cancelled within 7 days due to circumstances within the airlines control.
Etihad fligths through Abu Dhabi
Hey y'all, I’ve been tracking flights from Europe to Korea with a stopover in Abu Dhabi and I’m honestly surprised. I expected these routes to be pretty cheap, but prices on Google Flights have actually gone up over the past few days!! Is demand really that high right now that they can afford to have these prices? I get that fuel prices play a role, but with the ceasefire officially ending tomorrow, do you think there’s any chance fares might drop again soon?
(Not expecting anyone to predict the future just curious if anyone has insight into what’s going on or has seen similar trends)
Stockholm (ARN) to Boston (BOS) Layover Options
TLDR
SAS: ARN-CPH(2h20m)-BOS or ARN-EWR(2h10m)-BOS
My spouse and I are traveling from Boston to Copenhagen then Stockholm later this summer. We are experienced travelers but have not flown in almost a decade because of our young kids.
Our plan is to fly from Boston (BOS) to Copenhagen (CPH) direct with SAS.
For our return there are no direct flights with SAS, so i am wondering what is a better option for a layover. We can either fly back from Stockholm (ARN) through Copenhagen (CPH) or through Newark (EWR). Both layovers options are just over 2hrs which should be fine for CPH but may be tight for EWR. The main reason i am considering EWR is that it gets us back to the US directly.
Neither of us have never flown through CPH or EWR before and would appreciate the insight.
Thanks from some long overdue travelers
Extra info if it helps:
Exact day or time of flight is not important, we are flexible
Small differences in cost of flight are not important
No points in any airline
SriLankan Airlines cancelled my connecting flight – need advice
Flying Mumbai → Colombo → Singapore on 24–25 April. Original plan had me landing in Singapore morning of 25th, with 2 full days there before flying to Bali on 27th (all hotels/activities booked).
Airline cancelled my Colombo → Singapore leg and rebooked me on a flight arriving evening of 26th (24+ hour delay). This basically wipes out my Singapore stay.
Bigger issue: I don’t have a Sri Lanka visa, and the new layover is ~36 hours, so I could be stuck in Colombo.
I’ve asked them (via the third-party booking - viz., Cleartrip, who sent the intimation mail) to rebook me on any airline or alternate route that gets me to Singapore by morning of 25th.
What are my rights here? Can I push for rerouting on another airline? Any tips to escalate effectively?
Thanks!
Unable to Find Business Class on Thai Airways ! Only Economy Showing.
Hi everyone. I am planning to travel from Karachi to Tokyo next month via Thai Airways, but I’m running into an issue when trying to book business class. For some reason, both the website and app only show economy fares, and when I search for the same flights in business class, nothing appears.
What’s confusing is that about two weeks ago, I was able to see plenty of business class options for the same route, but now there are none at all. Has anyone experienced this before, or could I be doing something wrong?
Baggage Reclaim/Customs Recheck for DEN to FRA to NBO on one ticket (1st leg United, 2nd leg Lufthansa)?
I have an upcoming flight from Denver to Nairobi, connecting through Frankfurt. The itinerary is on one ticket, with the first leg operated by United and second operated by Lufthansa. The connection in Frankfurt is only 2 hours and 5 minutes, so I want to ensure I have enough time. My questions is: will I have to reclaim my checked bags in Frankfurt, take them through customs, and then re-check the bags in Frankfurt prior to boarding my flight to Nairobi?
I've researched and since I am entering from non-Schengen and exiting to non-Schengen, it's pretty clear I won't have to pass through immigration, but I can't find definitive answers on this point on checked bags. Thanks for the help!
Urgent, Help! Stuck in Reno -- They said we never boarded our flight here and canceled our return flight. What do we do?
My wife and daughter spent this last weekend at a volleyball tournament in Reno. They flew on Southwest Airlines from Burbank but had to connect through Las Vegas (ridiculous but it allowed us to use points).
Today when they tried to check in, it said they never boarded their connecting flight from Las Vegas and that their return trip home was canceled. They were most certainly on the flight!!! They don't remember if they scanned their tickets--they were asked to check their carry-ons in the boarding area and that may have distracted them before they walked down the jet bridge. But she doesn't remember. She has spoken to three agents at Southwest (and supervisors), all of whom are saying this could never have happened and are accusing her of lying (staying in Vegas and driving up to Reno etc).
She has text messages to me on the day they left saying they are about to board the plane, that they had just landed, etc. She also has the stub from the bag they checked at the gate. We don't know if this is enough evidence for the ticket agents, but she will try when she is able to get to the airport to deal with this at the counter. For now no one on the phone will help.
I can't believe that Southwest did not do a proper head count and notice that something was off before leaving. This has to be a violation, correct? Also there must be video evidence of them boarding the flight that can prove they were onboard. We just have no way to get hold of it and can't figure out another way to prove this, and Southwest seems completely unwilling to help us out.
We don't know what to do. They will have to buy very expensive last minute tickets home that we are not budgeted for or rent a car, also very pricey and very time-consuming. But we will want to be reimbursed. Does anyone have any ideas? Is this something we should report to the FAA or can threaten doing to make sure they actually investigate our claim and we are reimbursed. We are just livid right now. Thanks for any help, Reddit, I don't usually use this site but didn't know where else to turn.
Can I bring food separately and it not count as a carry-on since I would eat it in the terminal?
I'll be leaving Manhattan and really want to take a Cava meal (big salad bowl and pita) to go with me to the airport. I'll have a carry on and a personal item already that won't hold it. Can I get through security with food that's going to be consumed before I get on board?
Alternate Airlines from Cape Town to USA
Has anyone used any airline aside from United, British Airways or Turkish Airlines to travel from Cape Town to the US?
Thanks!
Kiwi.com loses collective lawsuit- will refund millions.
The Austrian Chamber of Labor has won a significant legal victory against the Kiwi.com platform. The court has found 31 violations. For example forced "Kiwi credits" instead of money refunds, even when the carrier cancelled the flight. Charging for luggage after showing an airline tariff where luggage is included, various unexplained and unjustified charges
More about it here:
Do yourself a favor and stay away from kiwi.com and similar dubious resellers. I can't see any reason to buy not directly from the carrier. Maybe in a rare scenario when you cancel yourself and never intend to fly to destinations offered by this carrier, then you can save some of the sum via those credits to use somewhere else. Be aware that kiwi.com charges double the price of any carrier, and with the aforementioned charges and fees , you lose. The same goes with rail ticket reseller websites of the railninja group that run websites pretending to be national train operators like austrianrailways.com etc..
Every train carrier in Europe has a website with an English or multiple languages option.
AirAsia changed my direct flight to Fly-thru (with stop) and now no other direct flights options available on the same dates?
Hi all, I need some advice/ guidance here.
I booked a direct flight from Singapore to Bangkok about 3 weeks ago through Agoda app. Everything was confirmed as a non-stop flight fo both outbound and return (as you can see in the 1st pic).
Yesterday, Agoda sent me an email indicating airline has rescheduled my flights so I went to check the timing via that same email and it's still indicating direct flights back and forth.
I went and checked in Airasia Move app just to double check the flight timing and there it is; showing KL as a Fly-thru stop in between which made my flight time to 5hr+ in total.
I went to chat with Airasia's chatBo and the Ai is quite unhelpful repeating the same things over and over again.
So I contacted Agoda, and they told me:
So now, I'm stuck with either taking a longer flight which I didn't originally agree to or take a refund (don't know when nor the amount) and rebook at a much higher price (~350S$ more).
I also asked about me just taking the longer flight and get a partial refund or goodwill support (like checked-luggage add on since I've been planning to buy) but Agoda said compensation has to be handled by the airline directly.
And honestly, there is no way to contact AirAsia except from their Ai chat Bo.
It feels unfair and even tho the change wasn't from my end, I'm the one taking the hit.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? Is this a common occurrence which I didn't know about? And what do I do now? 😓
1st and 2nd pic are the emails agoda sent to me for confirmation and for the rescheduling.
3rd and 4th pic is the flights showing in AirAsia Move app and web.
5th and 6th pic are the AirAsia Move web showing no flights available for me on the same dates for the same route.
So me and my friends are flying to Albania from London. The only problem is that we put his middle name as his last name, and then we forgot to put his last name that is the surname. Is it gonna create any problem?
So the name is Joe Yan Turner. We put first name as Joe and last name as Yan. We are thinking it will be fine
American vs. Delta vs. United: Which Airline Out Of The Big Three Has The Best Domestic First Class?
I rarely fly Delta and I never even flown Delta first class ever in my life until this one trip where I found Delta Airlines First Class cheaper than Spirit Airlines with all the extra add-ons for the big front seat. Below you will find which airline wins in every single category. (I flew on A321s for all routes, Delta from Atlanta --> Denver, United from Denver to Chicago O'Hare, and American from Chicago O'Hare to DFW.)
Ground Experience: It is important to note that all airlines don't have lounge access for domestic flights, and in the states, the only airline that does is Alaska that I have flown. There might be a few others like Hawaiian or Jetblue (Have flown Jetblue but not in First), so please correct me if they also do have lounge access. Anyway, American comes in dead last here because the lines were incredibly long at O'Hare, and the premium counter just felt like a normal economy line. Delta comes in second for an efficient check-in service at Atlanta but the boarding took a long time which delayed our flight 20 minutes. I wish the staff on both American and Delta communicated more on the ground. United Airlines takes the win here because I loved the easy, effortless check-in process at Denver though the airport was really busy. Bonus to United for the easy check-in to security process and the boarding was smoother and quicker though there were more boarding groups before First Class. It's always hard to measure the ground experience as many factors vary but United so far is the winner.
Seat: To me, American Airlines once again comes in dead third for having the most basic seat out of the three. This aircraft is just two years old and has a comfortable gray recliner with tons of leg room. In fact, this aircraft had the most leg room in First Class compared to the other two. The seat though was less private compared to the other two and while it did feel pretty wide, it just felt lacking and there was no in-flight entertainment onboard. Delta comes in second for a lovely, high-technology design onboard. The in-flight entertainment is large with the most options out of the three airlines, and the seat feels the most private. However, there is two major cons and flaws with the product. The major one is because of the seat design the seat feels a little more cramped and offers the least amount of legroom among the three. Not only that, but the seat is pretty narrow compared to the other two. What it excels well in privacy makes it fall last in comfort. United Airlines easily gets first place for having the most modern cabin with a huge entertainment screen. The seat does feel cramped but is the balance between American and United, offering decent privacy and comfort. I really like the cushioning on this one though I will say Delta's felt a lot more well-padded. Overall the seat is comfortable and spacious and there was plenty of space to store bags, so I was pretty happy.
Food: I booked on 2 lunch flights and 1 dinner flight, and I have to say United Airlines comes dead last with the catering. Both United and American offered cold items and United's tasted horrible. Really the only good thing I liked was the dessert, whatever was on my plate I didn't even bother touching after trying one or two bites of it. United really needs to step up their catering game but I can see the effort and progress. The dessert was really good. American Airlines comes second for having a delicious seafood dish though I don't like the idea of cold seafood. The crew however went out of their way to provide passengers ice cream on a short two hour flight which was very sweet of them. They said that due to turbulence on the previous flight from LAX they couldn't serve any ice cream out so they ended up giving it to us! That was a real bonus! Delta comes in first for having the most flavorful and gourmet meals out of the three. Delta was the only one to serve a hot meal, and the local flavors were really tasty and flavorful. Overall, very delicious catering service from Delta and they run away with this category.
IFE: This was a very close call, United's seatback entertainment system was spot on and is the best out of the big three, but I'm going to give the best entertainment to Delta since they had much better, faster Wi-Fi. It might've been because of the plane that I was using but Delta was way faster in connectivity. United worked but seemed slow at times. Both have a great screen though United's was a lot cleaner, Delta had lots of fingerprints on it. Content selection is pretty identical. American has a great IFE selection and a great Wi-Fi system, but sadly they place third because of a lack of an IFE.
Service: American's first win is the service category. The crew onboard this flight (Chicago O'Hare based) were super kind and friendly. Before, I used to have a hostile interaction with O'Hare based crews but overall it was a very easy flight because of the crew. Delta Airlines comes in second place because the crew were very professional but they weren't so friendly compared to Delta. United comes in dead last because the crew felt like they didn't want to be there. No welcome, no pre-flight beverage, no smiles. Very dead crew who were mainly on their phone and in the galley for most of the flight.
So who wins? For me, it is a tie between United and Delta. American's lack of an IFE screen and an updated product places it in third place, but they have a flagship first product which I'm excited to see roll out! If you prioritize a better IFE, Service, and Food, Delta is your choice. If you prioritize a more comfy seat and better ground experience, United is your category. For me, Delta edges it out for being more well rounded.
What do you think about the big three?
Confusion with Timezones
Hello! We are going to Japan soon and I was looking at my return flight and it is confusing me. It says we leave Japan August 15th, 6:30pm and will land back in Texas at 4:35pm. But when I calculate, 6:30pm will be 4am in Texas, not PM. Also, does this mean that it will be August 14th in Texas when we leave Japan on August 15th? The whole thing is confusing me 😬
Asiana Airlines help
I’m trying to book a flight from NRT -> SFO, but it keeps saying 3D Authentication failed. I have called my credit card, and make sure my pop-up is not blocked. I have called Asiana twice, and both times they basically told me “I don’t know what to do, but here’s the marketing email, figure it out yourself.” No one has replied to me when I emailed them… has anyone experienced this?
Do I keep trying or find a different airlines?
