How does Zelle make money
Zelle does make money for the banks and keeps money in the banks 🏦
Seller is refusing to pay for the prepaid shipping label.
Recently I bought a (ready to be shipped) doll on Etsy. The seller took over 2 weeks to drop off the doll at the post office. When I finally receive the package, I notice it was the wrong doll. At this point I no longer wanted to deal with this seller so I requested for a refund. Seller refused and was only willing to do an exchange. I open a case and won it. Seller was forced to refund me and send me a prepaid label. After I shipped the doll back I thought everything was over. But about a month later I receive a letter in the mail from UPS asking me to pay for the prepaid label because UPS was unable to process the enclosed transaction with the bank. I also notice that on the top of this letter it stated that this is the 2nd request letter but this is my first time ever receiving this letter so I am thinking that the first letter must have gone to the seller but the seller just refused to pay for the prepaid label, so now UPS is coming after me. What should I do? UPS says I have 7 days to pay them. I am scared because Etsy has already closed my case in my favor so I can’t even reopen the case. What will UPS do if I just ignore them? They don’t have my bank information because I wasn't the one who bought the prepaid shipping label. But UPS has my address from when I ship out the doll back to the seller. please help.
Income / expenses and users
A typical Planet Fitness club is pretty efficient compared to full-service gyms, but expenses still take a big bite out of that ~$150,000/month gross.
💰 Typical monthly expenses per Planet Fitness location
For a mature franchise location, a reasonable breakdown looks like:
1) Franchise & corporate fees
Royalties (typically ~5% of revenue): $7,500
National advertising fund (~7%): $10,500
Other system fees: $1,000–$3,000
Subtotal: $19,000–$21,000
2) Rent / lease (big variable)
~15,000–25,000 sq ft facility
Typical lease: $15,000–$35,000/month
High-cost metro areas can exceed $50K
3) Payroll (low-staff model)
10–20 employees, mostly part-time
Front desk, cleaning, manager
$20,000–$40,000/month
4) Utilities (electricity, water, HVAC)
High HVAC load + equipment
$5,000–$12,000/month
5) Maintenance & repairs
Machines, HydroMassage, tanning beds
$3,000–$8,000/month
6) Equipment lease/depreciation
Cardio machines, strength equipment
$8,000–$20,000/month
7) Cleaning, supplies, insurance, misc.
$5,000–$10,000/month

→ ~$10K/month profit
🧠 Key insight
Planet Fitness is basically a high-volume, low-margin subscription business:
Profit comes from:
large member base
low usage rates
controlled staffing
standardized equipment costs
The HydroMassage, tanning, etc. don’t drive huge revenue directly—they help justify the Black Card upsell, which increases average revenue per member without adding much cost.
As of the end of 2025, Planet Fitness had about 20.8 million members across 2,896 clubs worldwide. (Planet Fitness)
That averages out to roughly:
~7,100–7,300 members per location
(20.8M ÷ 2,896 ≈ 7,180)
Typical daily usage is much lower because most people:
don’t go every day,
go at different times,
and many memberships are “inactive” or low-frequency users.
Industry estimates and employee reports suggest a normal Planet Fitness location sees approximately:
300–1,000 check-ins per day
Busy urban clubs can exceed 1,500+ daily visits
Slow suburban/rural clubs may be closer to 200–400/day
A former employee on Reddit said their location averaged about 600–700 daily check-ins, with Mondays–Wednesdays busiest. (Reddit)
Planet Fitness’s business model depends heavily on:
low monthly pricing,
high membership counts,
and the fact that only a fraction of members show up at once.
That’s why a club with 7,000+ members can still physically operate in a ~20,000 sq ft gym. (spglobal.com)
