Searwood not updating software
Got a new searwood that doesn't update the software. Connects to the app but no update despite trouble shooting and trying different methods online. I came across a suggestion to reset the control panel. It's now stuck on the reset mode with it loading even if you press the menu button, turn it off, keep holding the button and turn it back on. If I do that, it asks me if I want to reset and even if I say no, it goes into reset mode and gets stuck loading there so can't even use the BBQ. Tried disconnecting the panel from the BBQ and disconnecting the BBQ from the power source but it persists.
Any suggestions or someone had a similar issue?. I'm aware of weber support but thought I'd check if there was an easy fix first.
The XL is on sale, baby!
I’ve been waiting and waiting for this day! My local ace has had the XL in stock and assembled, but they wouldn’t drop the price. I woke up this morning and checked my cart and it showed a sale price of $1199. Needless to say, it’s purchased, and I am awaiting delivery!
Looks like Weber lowered the price overnight for a sale through Memorial Day, so Ace followed suit as well. Just wanted to let everybody know in case there’s anyone else like me that’s been waiting for it to go back to the $1199 price.
The griddle insert has also dropped in price to $169 if anybody has been watching that. It’s normally $220.
Searwood 600 or XL? And best accessory recommendations
I have been on the hunt for a new grill, which has lead me to the Searwood - seems like it really can do it all! My question is for those who have the regular 600 and wish they got the XL? For content, we're a family of 4 and tend to host dinners of 10-12 people maybeeee once or twice a month. Will I regret the size of the regular 600? This will be my first pellet grill, so I am also want to be conscious of heat time and fuel efficiency coming from a propane grill. It will also be used primarily for burgers, steaks, etc. with the hope of eventually getting into some low and slow cooks.
Next question: best accessories? Seems like the front folding table is a must. I would love to be able to swap agriddle at times for smash bugers, and/or use cast iron for searing at others. Is it worth upgrading all of the grates to cast iron and then getting the full griddle insert or going with CRAFTED system?
EDIT: Cost difference is roughly $350 CAD. Unfortunately no retailers near me have them in stock or have floor models so it's tough to gauge the size difference between the two.
TIA!
Build quality
How is the build quality of the searwood compared to the smokefire. I have had an ex6 since the first came out gen1. I have had to replace many of the internals multiple times due to rusting out. Has weber increased the quality of the diffuser and burn pot. The just sent me a new motor and auger due to mine dying. Luckily I got it free. Not looking to replace any more on the ex6. So when it goes out again I'll just upgrade. Just seeing if the searwood improved on these areas.
Searwood XL on sale in Canada
Sale price $1449 at Amazon and Home Depot. Get it while it's hot LOL.
Buy direct from Weber?
Any benefit to buying a searwood directly from Weber or in store from a retailer? I assume warranty/return issues are easier in store.
Got the go ahead to buy since it's on sale in Canada, just gotta decide from where
Searwood XL for smoking? No searing
Heya, how's the Searwood for only smoking? I don't need searing (have a pizza oven that hits 1000F easily).
Just got this today. Doing the burn in tonight. What should the first cook be?
Contacted Support - Can’t Get Part Until After Memorial Day
So just for fun, hypothetically speaking… if customer service determines the USB-C cord is the issue but the replacement is backordered until after Memorial Day, is there another USB-C cord this person could safely use so they can actually have a grill/smoker for the holiday weekend? If not, this hypothetical person may be buying a kettle grill as a backup plan.
Hey folks,
I'm on the hunt for a new grill to replace our aging Napoleon propane. I know pellet grills have spiked in popularity over the last few years, and to be honest, I haven't been that interested in one until I came across the Searwood. I love the idea of being able to do large smokes, but I don't see that being my primary use.
My hope is to find a setup that’s efficient and relatively “set and forget,” while still offering the flexibility to smoke and use a griddle for things like smash burgers. Most of my cooking revolves around burgers, brats, and steaks. Right now, I’ve got an aging gas grill on its last legs, plus an Ooni pizza oven and a Camp Chef with a griddle. I’m hoping to consolidate all of that into a single, do-it-all solution, which is what’s led me to compare the FlexFlame (for its versatility and efficiency) against the Searwood (for its craftsmanship).
I have read a ton of posts, watched videos, and it seems like the Searwood can sear, but it's sort of "meh". So my question to my fellow BBQ lords is, does the taste of smoke from the Searwood outweigh the con of not having as good searing abilities? Anyone who has made the switch from propane to pellet, particularly the Searwood, is there anything you miss (faster heating times, etc)? Is the XL worth $400 more than the regular 600?
TIA!
600 vs XL ? Best to get for me?
[EDIT] Thanks for all the replies. Going with the XL !
I've fully decided to get a searwood as my first smoker to replace my old rusty propane (only have room for one overall unit)
Normal cooking is just for about 4 people however, occasionally I'll bbq for 10 to 12 on summer holidays and a smoker also opens up some cooking options during winter family holidays as well with hams and such.
Can the regular 600 properly handle that amount of people, or should I look at the XL since it's usually just for 4 people under normal usage.
Worried about wasting pellets on heating up the XL if I'm not using it fully but also don't want to buy something too small then realize i physically can't accommodate the groups the few times that happens.
$300 isnt that big of a difference but I also don't want to waste money.
I'll be purchasing a Searwood soon and disposing of my propane grill. What is a good pellet flavor to use of general grilling (i.e. chicken, burgers, fish). When I smoke I typically use hickory or mesquite, but I think this will be too strong for general grilling. Thoughts?
Wings
Garlic Parm Chicken wings yesterday! Smoked seasoned with 2 Gringos Chupacabra Cluckalicious, and a little extra garlic and onion powder, then coated with duck fat. Smoked low at 180° for 30 minutes, then turned the heat up to 400° until they were done and the skin was perfectly crispy. Tossed in butter and parmesan cheese.
These were absolutely amazing! Tender and juicy inside, crispy and flavorful outside. 🤤😋
Just did some 0-400 wings on the XL. Incredible.
Costco refrigerated wings. Rinsed them this morning, popped them on a wire rack and let them sit in the fridge for 8 hours so the skin would dry out.
Took them out. Seasoned with Meat Church Hickory AP. Let them sit for 15. Popped them on the grill, grill cold/off. Turned to 400. After about a half hour flipped them. Another half hour they were ready and crispy. Internal temp on most was 205+.
Absolutely phenomenal and insanely easy. Will do this again.
