Not teaching mat pilates to the beat / music?

Anyone here NOT do this? Idk… I’m not the biggest fan. A lot of the classes I go to rather than being intentional and controlled the instructor cares more about the beat and music and it ends up feeling like we are flinging our bodies

Anyone have upbeat music but NOT teach to the music / beat

new Pilates studio opening up by owner who has never attending a Pilates class

A new boutique studio is opening up in my downtown they have been promoting about the is opening for about 2 months now. They’ll be having reformer, mat, and yoga classes. When they posted on their instagram they were looking for instructors I messaged them. The instagram page also has no face tied to it, not that it matters but I just wanted to know who was opening the studio.

Anyway, I got a weird first impression from messaging with them. They wanted me to explain how my previous studio went about paying instructors and I left them on read.

Weeks went by and the asked if I was still interested in teaching, I said yes. Then I was offered the gig with the option of days I could teach. No phone call, no meeting in person, no mock class, they didn’t even ask for my certification…

This past weekend a photo shoot was scheduled with all the instructors and thats when i finally met the owner. I was the first one who showed up and introduced myself and asked her what she was going to be teaching. She answered with, “i don’t teach. I have never taken a pilates class.” She made other comments throughout the day that didnt seem right. Like she doesnt work out. And doesnt attend any fitness studios. She’s never been on a reformer!Im sorry but how are you opening up a studio with ZERO knowledge or experience in anything fitness.

One of the mat instructors that was hired has NEVER taught a class. She got her certification and attends pilates classes regularly but teaching is an entirely different thing. I was 1 of 2 reformer instructors and when I messaged the other instructor she didn’t find anything about this weird.

I decided to politely decline the opportunity because nothing was sitting right with me. None of the other instructors thought anything weird about it. What are your thoughts? I just needed to vent.

pilates leggings recommendations - where are you shopping?

I just got into pilates and my leggings situation is genuinely tragic lol. Every time I do core work the waistband folds down and I spend half the class fixing it instead of, idk, doing pilates?? been eyeing Lululemon align and Halara ultrasculpt but can't tell if they're worth it or if I'm just gonna grab a $25 Amazon pair and call it a day?

TIA

Signed up for 50 hour mat certification ...

This is through my local independent yoga/pilates studio, I know the instructors pretty well and I'm going in with a "just learn a cool new skill" mindset. When I think about how little time 50 hours, it seems CRAZY that I would be allowed to teach after such a short training, but my studio is definitely inferring that will be the case (if we test out of course). Does this bode badly? I've already paid so I'm gonna go through with it, but I'm definitely not assuming I will be teaching after this.

opening a small reformer studio - any golden tips?

i've been teaching for a while and seriously thinking about opening my own place. small like 4-5 reformers, small group classes, good vibes.

the teaching part i feel good about but everything else honestly overwhelms me a little.

someone recommended me Momence but tbh i just want something really simple. booking, payments, waitlist, and decent support. that's it. anyone found that?

would love to hear from anyone who's REALLY been through it 🙏

I’ve worked in fitness for years and honestly… I think a lot of people don’t actually need harder workouts.

Most people are stressed, tense, overwhelmed and struggling to find time for themselves in the first place.

That’s one of the reasons I started focusing more on Pilates and slower, intentional movement.

I’ve seen people improve their posture, reduce back pain, feel calmer and more connected to their bodies just from consistent, gentle movement they can actually stick to.

Would genuinely love to know though, what’s the biggest thing that stops people staying consistent with movement/exercise?

Any 9-5 corporate girlies doing Pilates Teacher training?

As mentioned, I have my 9-5 job and free on weekends. I have been doing Pilates for a year now, 5days/week. I am very much interested in learning more about Pilate eventually turning into instructor. With my work schedule, I am nervous if I can commit hours it requires. Along with Pilate, I also do hot yoga and it has helped me with my forms. I am interested in doing both but for now I want to get Pilates instructor certification. Has anyone been able to complete their training along with their job? I am based in Dallas, any studio recommendations ?

Reformer private for shoulder modifications??

Hi everyone!! I am a pilates instructor and have a client with rotator cuff tendinitis. I learned this while we were doing side planks and she asked for modifications. She requested a private to learn different modifications so in class she knows what to jump into if her shoulder is bothering her for a move the class is doing. Wondering if anyone has done a private like this? What did it look like, what offerings did you find to be most successful? I want to make sure she gets the most out of the private session. TIA!!!💕

Continuing education

Hello,
I invested around 5k in Club Pilates teacher training a year ago. I feel like i got an education that barely scratched the surface. I can’t invest thousands again - at least right now- but are there any continuing education courses you took that you felt helped you better your instruction, cueing, understanding of Pilates and the body? Thank you!

20 hours reform pilates training to become teacher?

Do you think 20hour total training -2days- enough to have comprehensive understanding and analysis for becoming reformer teacher?
There are so many courses and training outside but having good understanding is difficult for me. I’ve been doing pilates regularly but I need opinions over a course I am thinking to enroll which gives two days course and it is powered by PeakPilates certified. Thanks for comments already!

Not sure what I'm hoping to get from this, maybe people know how it feels. Basically I've lost confidence teaching reformer, only been teaching for just over 3 years but in that time its blown up ,super popular and everyone who's anyone is trained to teach it. All good, no shade, but it's made me look at my own teaching and I was told a few years back to water it down, don't focus too much on postural alignment people just wanna move 'so basically I've been in my head am I saying too much, making it more complicated, not having enough fun., plus many more doubts. THe words when they leave my mouth I feel sound a bit stiff, not natural in somedays.

THis for sure is a confidence thing, imposter syndrome but I'm not a new instructor and I definitely feel like I don't fit into the Matcha and Pilates scene, nor do I want to.. again no shade, I even saw a T-shirt in Sainsbury's that read Matcha & Pilates.

Maybe I'm just in the wrong job

How do you give less shits, in work and life generally?

Hi!

I started my search into pilates mat certification programs. My goal is contemporary style, but open to a program that has a blend of classical and contemporary.

However, I'd really love some in-depth feedback if you went through any trainings in nyc. I keep seeing "go with balance body because it is internationally known,"...I'm like okay and haha. Also would love to know if there was anything you considered when making the final decision besides costs, location, format, style.

I've attached those I've looked into so far.

*noting that some of these are cute add-on certs, but the overall goal being to have a pilates mat certification.

Hey y’all I have been wanting to become a pilates instructor for awhile now. What are some of the pros and cons of in person vs online pilates training?

Online training seems more accessible, but what’s the point if it won’t even land you a job once you’re certified?

In person training seems harder to do because what if no pilates studio wants to take on a new student (me)? It would be rejection after rejection.

But if you’re able to train in person, it seems the networking opportunities are better than online which would make it easier to find a job.

Also, I’ve heard good things about the Balanced Body Pilates training program, can you tell me more about that?

Hey y’all! I’m interested in becoming a pilates instructor part time. I am aware the certification can be a tad expensive and I have the means to pay for it.

I just have a few questions:

When I purchase the certification online, do I do the online classes then find a studio who would be willing to have a student teacher or is it vice versa?

Should I find a studio first and explain to them that I’m planning on purchasing the online certification, then purchase the certification?

After I complete the online modules/classes, what does the rest of the process look like?

Is there anyone in here that’s in the Charleston area and willing to take me under their wing?

Hi,

I am a full-time neonatal ICU nurse that works 4 days, 32 hours/week and I am super active and a pursuer for health and wellness, self-care and fitness in my daily routine. I have an unlimited reformer pilates membership with LA fitness that I attend 3-4 days a week, had a previous membership with SolidCore, and occasionally try different boutique reformer studios in the Bay Area.

Recently, I have been inspired to have a side gig out of my full-time RN job, but I do not want to do anything else bedside related. I have been curious and interested in becoming a pilates instructor, but I do not know where to start. I have a background in wellness education for college students as a part time on-campus job during my undergraduate years in college that I enjoyed, so this has been a similar target for keeping that spark in me.

I definitely would prefer a teaching/certification academy that has more flexibility and asynchronous opportunities. Also, should I dive into the mat course first or go to mat + reformer course right away? I have no mat pilates experience, so I'm stuck on which course I should proceed with. What are different ways you can have access to a reformer to practice your teaching?

Thanks!

I’m currently setting up a Pilates studio and planning to install a few Spring Wall units, but one thing is making me nervous.
The wall I’d use is not a fully solid concrete/brick wall — it’s drywall/rigips. Behind it there seems to be some empty space before the actual structural wall, but I honestly have no idea how much space or what the construction behind it looks like.
My biggest fear is obvious:
I don’t want the unit ripping out of the wall while someone is training. 😅
So I wanted to ask:
Has anyone mounted Spring Walls on drywall before?
Did you reinforce the wall somehow?
Is this generally considered unsafe?
Did you anchor directly into studs or into the structural wall behind?
Would you completely avoid this setup?
I’d really appreciate any real-world experience, especially from studio owners or installers.

SG pilates; $19.90 per class, promotional discounts every month, classes throughout the day (no kidding, from 9am all the way to 9pm, for every hour even classes at 3pm), on classpass for as low as 6 credits

too good to be true?
what we are missing is looking at the instructors schedule!!! that impacts the quality of the classes.

i attended a class at 9pm and the quality of the class was so low; instructor energy is low, no form corrections, the instructor literally sounded like a lifeless robot standing at the same spot. however, after i took a look at their schedule, wow, they were on a 6-hour block, all the instructors' are under the same system, more or less, that's just how the studio functions.

instructors have to work in 5-block shifts, that is teaching 5 classes back to back, no breaks, only 10mins inbetween, that is excluding if you overrun by 1-2mins, having to queue and run to the toilet, interacting with new comers, checking them in since there are no frontdesk staff, questions goes to the instructors, that 10mins break inbetween just becomes nothing.

honestly, i do feel for the instructors. imagine talking non-stop, being constantly on your feet (both literally and figuratively) for 5 hours straight; that is almost diabolical.

so of course, the quality of the classes would not be as good.

also a separate note to classpass reviewers; before leaving harsh comments and reviews online, please do consider this! you are already paying less (pilates classes especially reformer can go up to $30) so of course there will be down sides for the price you pay, including the quality of the classes in this case. honestly the instructors are not to blame for this, having to teach 5-6 blocks back to back, you're not human if you can keep the standards and quality high throughout!

shoutouts to all the sg pilates instructors <3 @ classpass users, please be kind before dropping reviews! words of encouragement can go a long way, trust me.
