new Pilates studio opening up by owner who has never attending a Pilates class

A new boutique studio is opening up in my downtown they have been promoting about the is opening for about 2 months now. They’ll be having reformer, mat, and yoga classes. When they posted on their instagram they were looking for instructors I messaged them. The instagram page also has no face tied to it, not that it matters but I just wanted to know who was opening the studio.

Anyway, I got a weird first impression from messaging with them. They wanted me to explain how my previous studio went about paying instructors and I left them on read.

Weeks went by and the asked if I was still interested in teaching, I said yes. Then I was offered the gig with the option of days I could teach. No phone call, no meeting in person, no mock class, they didn’t even ask for my certification…

This past weekend a photo shoot was scheduled with all the instructors and thats when i finally met the owner. I was the first one who showed up and introduced myself and asked her what she was going to be teaching. She answered with, “i don’t teach. I have never taken a pilates class.” She made other comments throughout the day that didnt seem right. Like she doesnt work out. And doesnt attend any fitness studios. She’s never been on a reformer!Im sorry but how are you opening up a studio with ZERO knowledge or experience in anything fitness.

One of the mat instructors that was hired has NEVER taught a class. She got her certification and attends pilates classes regularly but teaching is an entirely different thing. I was 1 of 2 reformer instructors and when I messaged the other instructor she didn’t find anything about this weird.

I decided to politely decline the opportunity because nothing was sitting right with me. None of the other instructors thought anything weird about it. What are your thoughts? I just needed to vent.
