2 kids later and honestly… we used way less stuff than I thought we would

When I was pregnant with my first, I swear every checklist online had like 75 “must have” baby products.

Meanwhile the things we actually used constantly were:

- a good Velcro swaddle
- a sound machine
- a baby carrier
- comfy leggings
- a good nursing bra
- a basic monitor
- a few toddler things that somehow survived years of abuse
- safe sleep space
- safe travel gear

Some expensive stuff was worth it for us. Some ended up sitting in a closet.

Feels like every family ends up with a few products they swear by… and a few that immediately get donated. As we prep for baby number 3 it got me thinking about it. What were yours?

My husband says it’s too expensive (he’s right, we’re on one income), and I know the fold isn’t loved by all and it is considered somewhat heavy… but for some reason I picked that one and am having a hard time changing my mind.

We have a family member offering to purchase a stroller or system but we don’t want to ask them to spend more than $1000-1100ish.

- We’re both on the taller side (he is 6’3” and I am 5’9”)
- I would like something that has an easy push and smoother ride which is what attracted me to the fox 5.
- something that won’t take up my entire trunk (I drive a small SUV, it’s a 2025 BMW x1)
- something that I can get in and out of the car independently/without a struggle
- I plan on taking baby for walks often, we have sidewalks and paved roads but I feel like they’re not great so I’m worried about the ride for baby and the push.
- I would like to take baby to the park for nature walks too
- we probably won’t be traveling a ton after bay comes, but will take road trips and stuff to our cabin and to visit family
- ideally newborn safe/compatible (we can buy a bassinet or whatever attachment separately to keep stroller under budget)
- parent facing would be nice

I’m sure there are other more important details so feel free to point out any criteria besides the above I should be considering that I’m not.

I think I’ve learned there is no ‘one and done’ stroller, it’s either compact and light but bumpy or it’s smooth but bulky…. But I am a FTM and have decision paralysis. Every time hubs and I try and discuss we argue so he says I just need to pick one and let him know what that is so we can move on, which is fair since I’m the one stuck on the fox 5 and am being stubborn

Stroller dilemma

I’m so exhausted of watching stroller videos. Can someone tell me what to buy:

Option 1- Uppababy Minu V3
Option 2- uppababy cruz v3 and bassinet
Option 3- Minu V3 and Cruz v3
Option 4- Minu v3 and Cruz v2 + bassinet via FB (this is what I’m leaning towards)

I’m a big walker, and I really do want the bassinet attachment for my maternity leave, though I’m aware some options listed don’t have it. Cruz V3 is safe from birth, yes, but I’ve truly got it in my head I need the bassinet and I fear there’s no shaking it.

We are also car dependent- if we are going anywhere other than a walk from my garage, we will need a car to get there.

We have a small suv and Camry, so trunk space is available but not overwhelming, and we have a garage to park any big strollers if needed.

My husband far preferred the minu, since he loves the idea of baby carrying and hauling the stroller while I handle things.

Financially, sure we could buy everything new, but money very much is an object that could go into a 529 or something.

No part of me cares about color matching.

My instinct is option 4, a nice new foldable stroller for the car and travel to make moving with baby easier, and a sturdier stroller for getting steps in during maternity leave. Realistically I could find both of these for under the cost of just the Cruz V3.

The question is: what’s the option that doesn’t overbuy for my first kid but also if money isn’t really a big concern, what’s best.

I hate what stroller research has made me become. Send help.

Here there. In research paralysis. I am looking for a travel stroller and feel stuck. I have a Cybex Gazelle which I love and Evenflo Infant car seat stroller thing which was amazing but my baby is too big for that now comfortably as a stroller. So going on a couple trips soon and want to get a travel stroller for those as well as serving as a better “in the car, out and about stroller” than by Cybex and leave that mostly for walks, Zoo, festivals, etc.

So I have a couple do or dies: I really want something compact and light 14lb or less, and very deep recline - as flat as possible.

After doing a ton of research I bought the Ergo Baby Metro 3 and the Zoe Travel to test. I really like the quality and feel of the ergo and fell in love with how deep the recline is, about 170 degrees. My son is a super nap fighter so I feel like that’s the only way he might fall asleep in the go. Our Gazelle not nearly as reclined (even though it advertised as near flat) and he just resists when I lay it down. With the Metro he laid down and wasn’t lifting his head up! BUT the metro is no much more bulky and heavy than i had hoped. I knew it was 17 pounds but I just hoped it would feel lighter, but it feels very heavy and bulky for carrying around, switching hotels while traveling abroad, etc. I have not received the Zoe yet but after seeing how great the recline is on the metro, I know that the Zoe is not nearly as flat and it’s just not going to do the job. I think it’s only 140° decline.

After looking all over, I am just having a really hard time finding a stroller with those two key components 1) a compact 14 pound or less stroller that 2) has 170° or flatter recline. What’s tough is a lot of products don’t list their degree of recline but a lot of the pictures just look sort of like that in between flat and sitting up position like laying back, but not fully laying down.

So I am coming to you hoping you guys can recommend some awesome options to check out! I am trying to keep it under $400 if possible.

Thank you in advance!

Hello! FTM to be here. Due August. Never knew there was so much to consider when buying baby stuff. Whew! I think I've narrowed it down to two (and a half?) options. I have it narrowed down to the Cruz, the Mixx Next, or maaaayybe the Buggaboo Fox Renew? I'd love your feedback! I have a list of features to consider:

  • Adjustable handle (needs to accommodate someone 5’7” and 6’1”)
  • Bassinet insert-compatible, car seat compatible OR can go into FULL bassinet mode (fully flat)
    • Backup: Does regular seat go fully flat?
    • Bassinet approved for overnight use? (Ideal but maybe not required)
  • Accommodates car seat
  • Storage beneath baby seat
    • Weight limit?
    • Can access basket with seat reclined?
    • Hidden pockets for phone/keys
  • Good turn radius
  • Smooth feel over uneven paving (think downtown sidewalks, maybe local park terrain [bumpy but flat])
    • Rubber or foam-filled tires
    • All-wheel suspension
  • Good sun canopy (hot, sunny climate)
  • Single-hand fold ideal
  • Lightweight enough for Mom to pick up solo
  • High landscape/table height
  • Consider a heavy-duty one that’s more all-terrain AND a super lightweight, basic one for cheap
  • Fold size:
    • Will it fit in trunk with groceries?
    • Does seat fold? (N/A if using car seat, I guess)
  • Harness & buckle
    • No-rethread harness
    • Magnetic or easy buckle
  • Push feel
    • One-hand push feels good and controlled

We are expecting our 2nd in 4 weeks. Older child will be 18 months. Had plans to buy new gear but unemployed now so need to adjust.

Here’s what we have:Ub Aria v1 Car seat(I really want to replace, first outgrew super quickly), Ub Vista v1 and bassinet(no rumble seat), Ub Minu v2

Here’s what I wanted: Buy new stuff and sell old. Out-n-about Nipper v5 with bassinet, Nuna Pipa Aire Rx, Nuna Trvl Double

My wife really doesn’t want to make our 18mo face backwards. We are not doing a baby shower because she thinks they are tacky for 2nd babies. We do have some relatives who may be willing to help.

What would you do in my situation? Do we absolutely need a double solution for in the car? Everyone says they hate the Vista as a double, but is it worth the effort to get rid of it? Should we keep the single travel stroller regardless?

Edit: our lifestyle is we live in a small walkable city but have to drive a lot to other nearby cities for errands and appointments. The hatches on our cars aren’t huge so we definitely need a travel stroller that will fit and still conserve space for other stuff. We really like having a full-size stroller with lots of basket capacity at the house because we walk to the grocery store and to friends’ houses almost daily.

Hi all, first time parents and considering what stroller / car seat to get. We’ve narrowed down our stroller choice to the Uppababy Cruz. However I’m stuck on whether we can keep our lives simple and get an Uppababy car seat like the Aria or if we should choose the more popular Nuna car seat and put up with using an adapter always.

When I looked at some gear review sites, it sounds like the Nuna is considered safer and the better option, but i understand both are technically safe. I think the Nuna model was the Pipa rx.

Any advice appreciated!

Our baby will start daycare at 4 months old, when he starts daycare my husband will drop off in the morning and i will pick up in the afternoon. I thought about buying two bases so we would each have one but it just crossed my mind that they may not work because we would also need two car seats for the bases because we can’t just leave the car seat at daycare everyday.

So I was thinking one of us would have the car seat with base and the other person would just get a convertible car seat in their car? It seems more cost effective that way. Thoughts?

Hi all, FTM here having so much trouble deciding what sleeping arrangement would make night time breastfeeding smoother in baby’s first few months. Would love to hear from experienced moms!

We were about to buy the Snuzpod 5 because it has a lot of convenient features: easy zip down side, wheels, mesh, good size, storage, rocking, height adjustability, etc. But then I realized it’s made with plywood and foam that could off-gas. The Newton bassinet and bedside sleeper seems like a good alternative, but zipping looks annoying (and I’m thinking I’d want to re-zip after each feed and not actually co-sleep). We were also considering the Halo Swivel but are turned off by the potential off-gassing and stubbing toes problem. I also like the idea of wheels to move it from room to room or at least to push it out of the way to use the bathroom.

These tradeoffs made me wonder if the zip/push down side is really even a feature worth focusing on? I am imagining that with these bassinets, I would roll over, zip/push down the side, pull baby out to nurse in bed, and then put baby back and re-zip or pass off to hubby for diaper change. Versus with a mini crib, I’d have to fully sit up and reach over or get out of bed every time I need to nurse, making it harder to go back to sleep. Though the mini cribs are attractive for the better materials and conversion to full size crib like the Newton nest.

(We already have an overnight sleep safe bassinet with our stroller and a play yard with no bassinet insert, so we figured our travel needs are covered there).

Given this, what sleeping arrangement/product would you recommend? I know every situation is different, but curious as to what you found helpful! Thanks!

We bought an infant car seat and now we’re trying to decide what to do for the second car. Should we get another base, which looks to cost about $300, or jump ahead to a convertible car seat for the second car? Only one of us will do daycare pick-up/drop-off most of the time.

First time mom, son is 3 months old. My best friend got us a lion king backpack off of Etsy but it is not big enough. I’m opening to any recommendations around $200 or lower!

I've narrowed down my choices to two carseats but I need input on which one would be best.

First option is the trvl™ lx + pipa™ urbn travel system. it's a stroller/carseat combo.

What I like about it is that the carseat can go on top of the stroller. The carseat is baseless so It's easy to swap cars (we will have family helping take care) and that it's super lightweight.

What i don't like is I feel like we'll outgrow it fast and we'll need to get a bigger carseat early on.

The second option is getting the trvl lx stroller individually but a different carseat. The revv™ car seat. it's a rotatable and convertable carseat.

What I like is that i wouldn't need to buy a new carseat for a while as it grows with the child. I also feel like the rotating feature might be convenient.

What I don't like is that it's not easy to swap cars, it's heavy, and it doesn't attach to the stroller. So we would have to either get a different stroller for the baby phase or just make do with the trvl stroller for a few months till baby is bigger.

For experienced moms, what route would you go? I feel like the ease of the smaller carseat would be worth buying a 2nd carseat later on. but I'm not sure.

Which Graco Pack n’ Play?

Trying to decide between these two pack n plays from Graco. They are on the same Amazon listing (confusing) but the black & cream is the Day2Dream and the other is the Dome Lux. [must not have enough karma to add pics to this post so below are the links.]

https://a.co/d/02AtT3Am - dome lux
https://a.co/d/08B3dHZy - day2dream

I was pretty set on the Dome Lux because it’s a bit cheaper and I love the color and look of it. However, I really like the fact that the bassinet attachment on the Day2Dream can stand up off the ground. I don’t plan on using the bassinet attachment in place of a bedside bassinet, but I could see us bringing this to our parents a lot and I like the idea of it being off the floor and away from dog hair lol. I’ve looked at videos on TikTok but I don’t think the dome shaped bassinet stands higher than ground level. Does anyone have that one and can you confirm?

Open to general thoughts on the usefulness of the bassinet attachment as well since I’m a FTM. Also, if I get one of these - can I use sheets or waterproof covers? Or does that make it unsafe?

Mother’s Day Sales?

Are there any good sales on baby products for Mothers Day? I saw that Mina Baie had a discount code last year (it was on TikTok so not sure how true).

Would love to know if any other brands have sales!

Momcozy KleanPal Pro $400 or Baby Brezza Bottle Washer Pro $220

Hi there, I have the opportunity to buy a brand new Baby Brezza Bottle Washer Pro for $220 CAD, or I can buy the Momcozy KleanPal Pro for $400. From what I can see, the Momcozy is more popular, but I'm wondering if anyone has some thoughts on whether it's worth the marginal $180.

Help me decide: register for the dream double stroller now or be practical and upgrade later?

Help me figure out what stroller to buy because I am spiraling 😅

Baby #1 is due in August, but our baby shower is at the end of June so I need to finalize our registry ASAP (invites go out tomorrow).

I am SO undecided on what stroller system to register for:

Bugaboo Kangaroo

Nuna Demi Next

Joie Ginger

Here’s my dilemma…

We already know we want to start trying for baby #2 when our first turns 1, so there’s a good chance we’ll have 2 under 2 or close in age.

So do we:

Go ahead and register for a double stroller now (since this will likely be our only baby shower), OR

Go with a more budget-friendly single stroller now and upgrade to a double later?

My struggle is that I feel weird asking for such a big-ticket item when we also have other expensive registry items like a crib, rocking chair, bottle washer, and even a deep freezer… BUT we also have 140+ adults invited (we didn’t have a wedding), and Amazon allows group gifting, so maybe this is exactly what registries are for?

Current thoughts:

Bugaboo Kangaroo: Love that the seats aren’t stacked and both kids seem to get a better ride

Nuna Demi Next: Nice, but I can’t get past one seat feeling so low

Joie Ginger: Most budget-friendly and probably what we’d do if we stay single stroller for now

Basically… do we plan ahead and ask for the stroller we really want for our future family now, or play it practical and save the double stroller decision for later?

Would love real-life advice from parents who planned for multiple kids close together — did you regret buying the double early, or regret buying twice?

Hey folks. I am FTM due in July and looking for a car seat to go with Triv next. I’m mostly seeing Pipa aire/urbn as the go to car seat for it. Ideally, I would have liked a rotating detachable car seat. I’m not sure such an option exists though? Evenflo has a good detachable option but not sure it will work with the Nuna stroller. So for the infant stage my plan was Even flo car seat (which can detach) for pediatric visits etc and use Nuna triv next with Basinet for long walks. Post Six months, use the Triv next as is and the car seat stays in car. Is this doable?

We have the 20% off at Target for dropping off a car seat. I was looking at the Joie Pepper Spin SI Rotating 4in1 seat. We currently have the Ginger/Mint latch system by Joie and have been very satisfied.

Is there a better seat that rotates and grows with baby? My guy is 3 months old but very tiny. So we’ve got awhile just wanna use the coupon before it expires!

First time mom here and I’m deep in stroller/travel system research and honestly pretty overwhelmed. I’m having a baby girl in November and trying to be practical about what I actually need vs what’s overkill.

I’m pretty budget conscious and totally fine buying a stroller secondhand, then pairing it with a new compatible infant car seat if that makes sense. My main goals are something that lasts into toddler years, works for everyday use like errands and walks, and has some versatility. A bassinet/pramette option or carry cot for the newborn stage would be a big plus.

I’m also trying to think ahead but not get carried away. This is my first baby and while I THINK I’d like 2–3 kids eventually, I don’t want to make decisions based on that yet. So I’m stuck on whether it’s worth investing in a stroller system that converts to a double or if that’s just unnecessary for now.

The other thing I’m debating is whether it actually saves money to do a used stroller frame + new car seat combo vs just buying a travel system bundle. And then separately if it makes more sense to just get one solid everyday stroller now and deal with a lightweight/travel stroller later if we end up flying a lot.

I’ve been looking at Graco Modes Nest2Grow, Graco Pramette, Graco Modes Nest Joie Nutmeg/Rue, Chicco Bravo, Mockingbird, but I’m open to anything honestly. I’ve dabbled into looking at premium brands like UPPAbaby and Nuna but I can’t quite justify those price tags unless someone can really explain the difference in value. Just want real opinions from people who’ve been through it, what you bought, what you wish you did differently, what actually mattered day to day!
