Podiatrist permanently removed big toenail, what to do with no structure?

My adult daughter had her toenail permanently removed with Phenol and is now worried because she didn’t realize it meant it would never grow back again and there would be no structure for the nail.

She’s worried because she wants to wear sandals but can’t get a press on or even acrylic to stick to the toe for more than 5 minutes due to there not being any kind of nail for it to adhere to.

Is there a way she can reverse this?

I feel terrible this was done by the podiatrist and not properly explained.

What’s the one nail care habit that actually made your nails stronger?

I feel like nail advice gets overwhelming fast — cuticle oils, hardeners, supplements, glass files, base coats, gloves, breaks from gel, avoiding water exposure, changing removal methods, etc.

But I’m curious about the small things people actually noticed results from.

Not the “perfect routine” kind of advice, just the one habit that made your nails peel less, break less, grow better, or look healthier over time.

For me, these threads are always more useful than generic nail tips because everyone’s nails seem to react so differently.

What’s one nail care habit you tried that genuinely made a difference?

I know everyone comes here for identification of CD but..

This started a couple months ago after going to the nail salon. It’s only my right index finger that’s the problem though even though the rest of my nails look like there’re peeling in the picture (I’d just left the salon).

I don’t have an inchy feeling but it does hurt and the skin feels thin and I have this tight sensation when using my hands.

Is this normal? Even for just one finger?

Looking for advice/do these look healthy

I keep them painted pretty much all the time, I really hate seeing my nails. I’ve recently been very hypochondriac about the way they look, I keep thinking about the things I’ve read about when you can’t see that white lunar line on all the nails.

In these photos I had just used acetone to remove polish. So the white streaks are from that.

Also in the last photo I show my left thumb nail which has been pointed for a few years now I think, it grows humped in the center and none of my other nails do.

contact dermatitis?? Please help!

Hello guys! i’ve started doing my own nails i’ve been doing them for about 3 months now and I use builder gel. About three days ago I refreshed my set and today I noticed these kind of itchy bumps on my thumb after picking my dog up from the vet. about an hour later some of the same bumps showed up on my other thumb and one bump on my middle finger. I didn’t use any new products and I always check to cure all the way. Is this contact dermatitis or a reaction to something else? I do have a history of eczema. Thank you for reading!!

Greenies

So I got greenies for the first time- I went to the doctor and they gave me Gentaminicin drops & said soak it with vinegar/ water 2x a day.

She told me it takes three months to grow out, but I need to have my nails back on before work ASAP

How long can I wait to start putting on nails? Any other tips to make this go away ASAP? I know it needs to grow out, but I don’t have time to wait.🤣

Should I go back and ask for a refund on my nails?

I went and got a mani pedi yesterday, it was $112 plus tip. My nails are dip base with gel painted on top for the french tip and design. They are kind of irritating my cuticles so I feel like they have flooded my cuticles with the dip powder or the gel polish. Idk what to do. I just recently starting getting my nails done so i’m a beginner at this and I’ve never had to complain before.

Why do I damage my fingers every time I trim my nails?

I can't understand why this always happens when I trim my nails. Is it a metabolic/nutritional problem or purely my technique. I feel like it happens to at least one of my nails every time, even when I am being careful.

It makes my finger so sensitive for days/weeks. It can be very painful when I knock it or touch something in the wrong way and I can't touch salt or lemon without wincing.

This question might be a little disingenuous because I know I can be a perfectionist/hyper focussed when trimming my nails which is probably at least partly to blame. I have difficulty leaving any uneven bit and this means I often over trim my nails, but I feel like there is more to it than that. It still happens when I am disciplined and cautious.

Thanks for reading. Also, does anyone have any tips on how to help the finger heal quickly when it happens?

I hope this isn't a basic question that has been answered multiple times. I tried to search my question and couldn't find anything similar.

Thanks again. I'm looking forward to your comments.

someone please tell me what to do!

or what is wrong with me? :(

I work moving furniture, and also at a bridal shop so
I am using my hands most of the time. I don't know what to do besides wear gloves all the time. And I don't even know if that would help.

I've tried nail strengthening polishes, serums, jojoba oil, everything.

I even started eating better lately, I was hoping that would help.

I don't know what to do! About to just start getting gel manicures, but i'd like to fix whatever is wrong.

how to fix?

As far as I know I haven't hit my toe hard against anything. I did about four years ago but that crack grew out. I've had this crack for a few months I think. Just took my shoes and socks and it was just suddenly there. It doesn't hurt but looking at it makes it uncomfortable if that makes sense.

Pinkie toe nails are separated. Should I be worried?

Hi! I’m not sure if this is considered an injury, but just to be safe I’ve tagged it.

The toenails on both of my pinkie toes are separated in the same area. I can lift the separated area of the nail up a little without pain. I have no idea why they split. They’ve been like this for a little under a year and I’ve never had anything like this with any of my other nails before. They hurt sometimes but I can’t think of anything that I do consistently around the times they do hurt. Has anyone else had this happen?

I’ve attached photos, it’s harder to tell where the separation is for one of the nails so I circled the area.

Toenail ripped off from desk

Hi! This past week I had a pretty large and heavy desk fall on my big toe. When it fell on my toe I must’ve ripped my foot out (natural instinct I assume) and left my toenail behind. I attached a photo. (Ignore my awful pedicure) the doctor told me it would never grow back. Anybody have similar experience?? I won’t attach any photos of the toe itself, but let’s just say it’s still pretty gruesome to look at. I’m scheduled to see a podiatrist this week but I hope that’s not too late.

Am I at risk for an ingrown nail? What can I do?

My nail broke off when someone accidentally hit it playing ball hockey. It doesn’t hurt or anything but I’m worried about an ingrown nail as I’m going on a trip soon.

Is there anything I can do? It doesn’t hurt and this just happened today.

Help me help my mom!

My mom is in her 70s and all of a sudden on a few of her nails (~6 of them), her free edge is no longer straight across, and seems to dip into her nail plate. Relevant/maybe relevant info:

  • No trauma that she can think of
  • She had her nails polished (not gel) for about 10 days while on a trip in the last few weeks. It's rare for her to have polished nails at all. These were there when she removed the polish.
  • She did just start blood pressure medication around the same time as she polished her nails (within the last few weeks)
  • She feels fine otherwise, no issues with nails beyond this
  • She's had the ridges forever

Anyone have any idea what this might be? She is thinking it has to do with her new meds but not sure. She will ask her doctor but I am more online than my mom so I told her I'd see what I could find in the meantime. TIA for any help!

The photo added is Sally Hansen 2 Step Miracle Gel polish peeling right off after applying it last night. But whether I do ANY store bought polish with a top coat, or go to the salon and get a gel overlay, or even get acrylic nails applied! They will pop off, peel off, slide off, within a week usually. Acrylics can last two to three sometimes.

I don't do anything abnormal, the most activity my hands see is laundry and dishes.

Does this look like nail damage?

I got my nails off the correct and healthy way, I never rip them off. This is the first time they are like this and it’s only my second time getting them done this year?
