Podiatrist permanently removed big toenail, what to do with no structure?

My adult daughter had her toenail permanently removed with Phenol and is now worried because she didn’t realize it meant it would never grow back again and there would be no structure for the nail.

She’s worried because she wants to wear sandals but can’t get a press on or even acrylic to stick to the toe for more than 5 minutes due to there not being any kind of nail for it to adhere to.

Is there a way she can reverse this?

I feel terrible this was done by the podiatrist and not properly explained.
