No power in house outlet Ethernet ports

No power in house outlet Ethernet ports

All of these cat 5e cables run into this closet. Do I need to plug these all into a 24 port switch in order for the outlets to work?

Question about range extender.

Hi guys! I don’t know much about this kind of stuff, maybe is an unnecessary question for most, but I will appreciate an approval( or not)
Two of my outside cameras are disconnecting most of the time since they are out of range due to the router placed to far. I can put this extender ( see attached pict) very close to both cameras using this ethernet cable ( also in picture).
Will this cable ( cat6) work with that specific extender, it is on sale right now.
Is it true that using the ethernet cable instead of wifi won’t cut my speed in the rest of the house???
Thanks in advance!!!

1-meter LAN cable rated for 100 Mbps—an aluminum wire with a copper coating. cut off both ends of the cable and spliced in a copper wire different defective LAN cable between them. Result, the speed increased to 1000 Mbps, now cable is 15 cm. Should I use this one or buy new one?

Ethernet shows higher Mbps to Internet but barely loads anything

After getting a new computer (prebuilt with new specs), my Ethernet barely runs anything. Videos play at the lowest quality and still struggle to play, I can’t play games, etc. Internet speed tests show Ethernet runs at 679.8 Mbps download and 20.2 Mbps upload, while my Internet runs at 227.5 and 13.7 respectively. My Ethernet cable is a Cat6 flat cable and was only bought a few months ago, and ran well on my previous computer, plus it runs through a splitter. If anyone has ideas as to why it runs everything terribly yet displays high speed please let me know, I’m happy to answer questions. Thank you!

Edit: after messing it seems to be more of problem with web browsers and things like discord streams. Only have this problem when on Ethernet, though. Things like YouTube videos CAN run but at a considerably slower level than Internet, as in barely being able to play even while at low graphics, while on Internet videos can run at max quality with no issues. Trying other browsers does not seem to change the issue.

I’m in the UK and have moved into a new build house. when choosing our options I said I wanted an Ethernet port in every room (of course!) but the sales rep said I didn’t need to pay for one in the living room as the standard media plate has one.

now I’ve moved in I went to plug my Ethernet switch in to the media plate and was greeted with this port. thats for a landline phone right?

Hello!

Moved into this house 2 years ago and have never had time to figure out what all of this is and why it is here. Was likely installed by the previous owner in a 2019 remodel. I have no expertise in this area but from my limited research seems like it has something to do with ethernet and that maybe he was using some expensive electronics (maybe a serious gamer?).

The huge bundle of blue cables in the closet are mostly not connected to anything (They just hang). One of them wraps around and is connected to the device in the 2nd and 3rd photo but I don't think that device is connected to anything.

There are cat 6 connections from the blue cables that come out behind our tv mount and below it (shown in the last two photos).

Would love to know:

  1. What is all of this a why was it installed?
  2. Do I need to have the voltage regulator box on even? There are fans that come on at the top of the box that are quite noisy. Also wondering if this has just been wasting electricity for 2 years.
  3. Can I/should I be using this since we have it? We have an apple tv currently running off wifi, but should we find a way to use the ethernet connection on it to plug it into the cat 6 box behind the tv? (if that even makes sense).
  4. Bonus points if you can explain this to me like I am 5. I really do not know anything about this stuff.

TIA!

Edit: The equipment box is located in a closet in the second floor addition. The first floor of the house is made of stucco that may be interfereing with our current wifi set up. The blue cables seem to be routed to 3 locations in the house, all of them previously had tvs mounted. I hit the off switch on the voltage regulator box and it turned off everything in the equipment box, including the fans but has not seemed to cause any issue with anything that we currently use. Thank you all for the replies and info!

Hello! I live in a dorm, and I have these dust cover / security blockers on my Ethernet port. I’m not sure if this port is even connected to anything or would help give me a better connection for my ps5, however I figured it would be worth a shot. Any suggestions on how to remove these? My “just pry it off with a screwdriver” method did not work on the voice side.

(Blurred text just a room number, no vital info.)

Strange occurrence

So a few days ago when I logged onto my laptop I had the most strange thing happened. I’m hoping someone will be able to tell me why because everyone I’ve spoken to about if so far is stumped.
When I logged on, it said my laptop was plugged into an ethernet. Issue? I dont have ethernet. No cable, nothing. It was called (MY WIFI NETWORK) 2, and when I pressed on it, it wouldn’t show me the wifi bar, it was just completely gone. Can anyone help me to understand why this happened?

so here it the problem, i use a dual router network that is made up of my xfinity router modem combo and a eero network, the issue is my pc witch is Ethernet into the Xfinity router is somehow ending up on the eero network instead of the router/modem witch it is connected to via a switch. the weird thing is it was sudden when it occurred it worked right for 2 years and then one day i was on eero. the reason for this needing to be fixed is port forwarding through eero sucks and needs to go through xfinity. pc is also on the other side of house from where the modem connects so direct connection not possible.

A few days ago my internet started tweaking and barely working. As far as I can tell it's just going out for like 10 seconds at a time every minute or so, making things like youtube buffer way more than normal, and games and other apps not be able to connect to internet. The Windows troubleshooter hasn't helped, it usually says there's no problem or if I catch it when it's messed up it only suggests a network reset, which I've done like 5 times at this point to no avail. I've also tried a bunch of other stuff like various CMD prompts that flush my dns or reset my IP or whatever (I don't know a ton about ethernet). I've restarted my router multiple times, tried a different cable, changed router ports, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times, rolled back the most recent windows updates, etc. I genuinely have no clue what's going on. The lights on my MOBO ethernet port look normal so I don't think it's a port problem but that's kind of the last thing I feel like it could be that I haven't tested (since I have no alternative) but I'm really hoping it's something else.

So I just recently moved to a new house and I want to plug my Ethernet cord in to my router but it’s not in a position suitable for my house to accept running such a long cord. I also can’t move the router. Would it be worth to buy a wifi extender and plug into that or would that just be a waste of money? We have multiple game systems and I stream on Twitch which is why I need a bit more connectivity what should I do?

Need advice!

I’ve been playing dead by daylight on my ps5 and my ping was bad, like I lagged out 2 matches in a row, which made me buy a cat5a ethernet, it made a significant difference. Some days I played great all day with minimum lag like ping going up for only a few seconds and then back to good.

Should I buy a cat6a? Would that change anything or is this just more of a router problem now and having a better ethernet won’t change anything?

So I moved my pc from one room to another which requires a hard wire ethernet (no bluetooth) so i ran a cable from the router, hardwired with a punch down tool to a keystone jack, ran a small 2 foot cable in between the next jack, and ran another cable from that to my pc. My computer still isnt reading any connection. I even tried a different brand, still doesn't work. Am I even doing this right? In my head it should work but im obviously missing something.

Yes I tripled check both jacks to see if both sides are wired correctly. I put them side by side and they are both the exact same

Attached photo to see roughly what I have set up.

So I’m new to using Ethernet cables over Wi-Fi and my buddy at work was telling me his Ethernet cable fried his ps5. I have an Xfinity WiFi new modem and a Xbox Series X with a Ugreen cat8 cable(10ft), should I buy a surge protector for my Ethernet cable/coaxil, both, or neither?

Hey yall,

so typically I would run my ethernet cord from my router to my PC but I moved my PC out of the room into another room where its now further away from the router and my gf doesnt want me running the cord across the whole house.

I bought the tp-link powerline adpators and its currently giving me 220 down 50 up which is ok but I need at least 110 MBPS upload speed.

Is there another way to increase my upload speed without having to run a line all the way to the router?

ETHERNET SUGGESTION

I want to connect my PlayStation 5 through Ethernet for a more stable connection, but my router is in another room and running a long Ethernet cable through the windows or rooms is not possible.

So I wanted to ask can I buy a mesh Wi-Fi system and connect one mesh node to the router, then connect another mesh node to my PS5 using an Ethernet cable? Will this work properly for gaming and remote play, and is it a good idea to go ahead with this setup?

Been having this problem for months now and I've tried multiple fixes, nothing changed. I gave up and decided to be here and ask the experts, YOU guys.

Changed my DNS to 8888 8844, multiple plug ins and plug outs, countless restarts. I even replaced the ethernet cable thinking it was the problem but same result, "No Internet". I replaced my old ethernet cable with Vention Cat6 Utp. I dropped all the pictures which might help in addressing the problem.

Thank you!

Have never had an issue before until the last couple of weeks, over the last few weeks every so often when I come home from work my PC would be connected through ethernet like usual however have no internet connection usually I'd leave it, come back the next day everything is fine for awhile then would happen after a couple of days, I think it first happened after I installed new NVIDIA drivers then after they finished the internet wasn't working not sure if it's a coincidence or not, now for the last 4 days I haven't had any internet access but the ethernet is still connected, I've looked up a few things from restarting modem and PC quite a few times to changing the ethernet cable and trying different ports on the modem, flushing DNS and other ipconfig things through command prompt, uninstalling the internet drivers and restarting and I have no idea what's happening, mind due there are 4 other people in my house that use ethernet and I'm the only one with this issue so Im lost, when I check the properties on my PC IPv4 is connected but IPv6 has no internet access if that helps out with more information, Does anyone have any recommendations or anything that may help cause I'm at a road block and it's really frustrating, thank you in advance any help is much appreciated
