Hello!

Moved into this house 2 years ago and have never had time to figure out what all of this is and why it is here. Was likely installed by the previous owner in a 2019 remodel. I have no expertise in this area but from my limited research seems like it has something to do with ethernet and that maybe he was using some expensive electronics (maybe a serious gamer?).

The huge bundle of blue cables in the closet are mostly not connected to anything (They just hang). One of them wraps around and is connected to the device in the 2nd and 3rd photo but I don't think that device is connected to anything.

There are cat 6 connections from the blue cables that come out behind our tv mount and below it (shown in the last two photos).

Would love to know:

  1. What is all of this a why was it installed?
  2. Do I need to have the voltage regulator box on even? There are fans that come on at the top of the box that are quite noisy. Also wondering if this has just been wasting electricity for 2 years.
  3. Can I/should I be using this since we have it? We have an apple tv currently running off wifi, but should we find a way to use the ethernet connection on it to plug it into the cat 6 box behind the tv? (if that even makes sense).
  4. Bonus points if you can explain this to me like I am 5. I really do not know anything about this stuff.

TIA!

Edit: The equipment box is located in a closet in the second floor addition. The first floor of the house is made of stucco that may be interfereing with our current wifi set up. The blue cables seem to be routed to 3 locations in the house, all of them previously had tvs mounted. I hit the off switch on the voltage regulator box and it turned off everything in the equipment box, including the fans but has not seemed to cause any issue with anything that we currently use. Thank you all for the replies and info!
