What do y’all use for pain medicine?
What do you all use for pain medicine? I’ve heard that it’s some type of good topical ointment that bariatric patients use for pain, but I don’t know the name of it.

Did anyone have much more intense sugar cravings after surgery? I swear I crave it more than anything, and unfortunately it agrees with me just fine. I'm two years post op and ever since about 6 months post op the sugar cravings are real! I think that's why my weight loss stalls, just curious if anyone else experienced that. I'm not diabetic, my blood work is perfect and I do try to practice moderation, but I partake more than I should because the cravings are so intense.

My daughter just gave my a victory that I didn't even know I needed. She is 16, 4'9" 95lbs she is tiny. She just gave me a hug before bed and goes "Omg I can reach around you", she had her wrist in her other hand and squeezed me.
Hello everybody. Hope you’re having a fantastic day. So I am now three weeks out of surgery and I know I shouldn’t be checking my weight a lot, which means I’ve only weighed myself twice. April 9 and today.
The first two weeks out of surgery I lost 5 pounds a week now in the time since I weighed myself I’ve only lost 2.7 pounds. I know the path isn’t linear. I know I’m still recovering from a lot of incision site pain, including a nerve spasm, which has diminished my desire to walk a lot and move a lot, which clearly needs to be increased.
However, I just want to know that the path is not linear. That there will be ups and downs as far as the amount of weight I lose.
Ps. I am hitting hydration goals and protein goals.
I am at the 6-month mark after my surgery, and things have been going really well! My anxiety brain likes to catastrophize and tell me I'm not making progress fast enough, but objectively speaking I have made a LOT of progress.

My starting weight was 263 lbs., and as of my last weigh-in last week, I am officially UNDER the 200-lb mark at 198 lbs.! That is 65 lbs. down, baybee!
On the non-scale victory front, I am down four dress sizes and am moving much more easily. It hasn't magically solved all my problems (alas), but there has been improvement on all fronts.
In a perfect world I would lose another 40-50 lbs. in the next year in order to get to a "healthy" BMI, but I haven't been this weight for at least 15 years, so I am already super excited to have gone under the 200-lb threshold. For me, that is HUGE.

Hi!
I’ve been in this journey for three years now. For one reason or another, I kept postponing surgery. For example, I had gallbladder surgery. I was a full time carer for my elderly mom. I got c-diff. My workload was too much.
Next week I will be going back for an appointment and it may be that they will be ready to schedule me. But I’ve been having some problems lately.
I take Monjauro and I think this may be why, but I’ve been having terrible stomach problems. I get the runs where I can’t make it to the bathroom in time, and sometimes I vomit. I take psych meds, which have been changed around a bit an this diarrhea has gotten a bit better but not completely. Plus I’m constantly exhausted. I can hardly get up or do my work. I don’t know why. I was doing good with the Monjauro for a couple of years, but I don’t know what else it could be because I hardly eat. I can no longer tolerate red meat, dairy products except yogurt and kefir, or anything remotely greasy. I have also developed sensitivity to artificial sweeteners, sugary things make me sick, and the last time I tried a protein shake-Fairlife-it went right through me.
Realistically, I have lost weight but I still need to lose about 70 pounds, maybe a little more. All my weight is in my stomach and my back is killing me till I have problems getting around. I’m about to turn 65.
I’m really worried that if I get this surgery I will start crapping myself even worse and vomit even more. I’m afraid I will be one of those people who are still constantly hungry, and I can’t imagine what I can eat because all I can eat now is beans, crackers, hard boiled eggs and boneless skinless chicken thighs. My stomach is sore almost all the time.
I really don’t know if surgery will make my problem worse or better. They have mentioned that they may advise me to continue with the Monjauro after surgery. (I already tried Ozempic but that made me so sick I couldn’t get out of bed for days, except to vomit. It was like a weeks long hangover.)
Please give me your opinions as to what you think I should do. Thank you.
I’m all approved by insurance and ready to go, just have my bariatric class and pre-admission testing tomorrow and then I wait for May 6th! (Surgery twins, anyone?) My pre-op diet starts on April 29th. I’ll be getting robot-assisted (da Vinci system) Gastric Bypass.
I can’t believe it’s actually happening. I’m only 22, but I’ve been overweight my entire life and morbidly obese since my pre-teen years, so I’ve been thinking about surgery since I was in my teens, and I’ve not seen myself skinny since a SINGLE photo of myself from when I was about 4 or 5 years old (yes, really.)
Well, I know I won’t exactly be “skinny” (there’s no way I won’t have a decent amount of loose skin when I got up to a highest weight of almost 400lbs) but I’ll be smaller! And you can squash loose skin unlike fat, so I think I’ll manage to look nice in clothes at least lol. I’m concerned with being healthy more than anything else though.
During the last three months of surgery and dietitian appointments, I went from 379lbs (already lost about 17lbs before my first appointment) to 353lbs, and I assume I’ll lose probably another 10lbs during the pre-op diet.
My ultimate goal weight is around 130lbs because I’m quite short, but I’ll take whatever allows me to live a long and healthy life.
HW: 396lbs CW: 353lbs
I’m training for an Ironman and have been searching to find a balance for energy without loading 60 grams of sugar because I don’t want to be vomiting on the bike. Was wondering if anyone here has done training for distance running/endurance and if they’ve had success with certain gels/drinks.
I have a 2yo who will be at least 3 when I go for surgery. My surgeon said there is ‘technically’ a 10lb limit to what I can lift post-op but that she ‘would never tell a mom not to pick up her child’...that said, would it be a good idea to plan for a week of having someone else around to help out with the little one? What’s the hardest part of having this surgery with a toddler at home—post op pain, fatigue from the liquid diet, something else?
Hey all👋
I’m officially on the countdown to my Gastric Bypass on May 8th (!!) — any surgery twins out there? 👀
The last week has been a lot. I’ve had:
• a pre-op Zoom with my nurse
• a group call with other patients and our care team (super helpful but also info overload 😅)
• another call with my surgeon coming up
• and an endoscopy this Thursday
It feels like everything is happening all at once. I’m genuinely so excited to start this journey — I feel ready for the good, the bad, and the ugly. But wow… with all the appointments, calls, and information being thrown at me, it’s definitely a bit overwhelming too.
My liver reduction diet kicks off this Friday. Honestly, I was bracing for the worst, but compared to what I’ve seen here and elsewhere online, mine seems pretty manageable — low carb, low fat, high protein, actual food… I’ll take that as a win 🙌
If anyone has last-minute tips, things you wish you knew before surgery, or just general advice, I’d really appreciate it!
So my surgery is tomorrow and yall im tired. I feel so moody and lost right now. I keep thinking about the part where im actually going to be cut on. That’s making my head spin a little. This 2 week pre op and all clear liquid has brought me to a place of dullness. I would be lying to say im not happy that I made it to this point but I thought I would be happier. Any kind words or suggestions?
Be honest. Does anyone regret it? I’m worried about excess skin and recovery time after the surgery.
Hey, Y'all!
I adopted my post-op diet in the months leading up to my surgery, which is next week.
I have lost about 65 lbs but am on the shake diet now and have hit a pretty steady plateau.
Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, how was your post-op weight loss?
I'm worried that I may have sabotaged my post-op weight loss by doing this.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks for your time.
The last 14 months have been a WILD ride! February of last year, I was 419lbs and a BMI of 63.5. Had RNY in August at 383lbs. Down 94lbs since surgery and 130lbs and 20 BMI points total. Absolutely bonkers to me!
I had a stricture stretched out about a week and a half ago. I still find that things like chicken and eggs don't go down well. I have always ate faster and am now wondering if I am eating to fast or not chewing enough. What have your experiences been?
I had my 6 month follow-up visit, and I’m down 70lbs. My surgeon is not happy, said I’m losing too slowly and that I’m going something wrong. I just feel defeated.
Summer is nearing and these hot days have me parched!!! 😭 i just want to chug a cold drink so badly. I can only do 2 sips at a time, 3 hurts so bad. Before surgery, i would have my large cup of Mio sweet tea flavor and omg, chugging it felt like heaven
Almost to my one year post op from gastric bypass surgery!!!! Down 120 lbs so far from my heaviest weight. Looking forward to skin removal surgery next!
