I asked for light ash brown and now I'm red, help!

Went to the hair dresser 3 weeks ago, asked for ash, when it was finished, I immediately noticed my roots were red but having paid 300e and being in denial, I said nothing to the hairdresser.

Now, everyday I look at myself and I hate it so muuuch. The reddish/orange tones are awful for my complexion. You can tell my root is naturally cool, so why did she do that ? How do I fix it ?

I have some Shinefinity gloss at home (blue booster and 07/81 but I'm not sure it's enough). I wad thinking of a bleach bath but it scares me. Any advice?

Fear of regrowth – Color Touch

My hair is level 7, and I have gray hairs ONLY in the inner layers of my hair.

I was thinking about coloring it with Wella Color Touch 7.0 and 6 vol because it’s an alkaline demi.

I read that for some people, a visible regrowth line was left from that demi color and it didn’t fade out completely. I do not want a harsh regrowth line on my head!

I’m also looking at Wella Shinefinity because it’s an acidic demi, but it seems to turn out very dark. I want to keep my current level and not go darker.

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore—I’m really confused.

Gift ideas for my hairstylist?

Hi from Taiwan!

I've been going to the same hairstylist for 5+ years, she's awesome. Over the years, she's opened her own hair salon where other hairstylists are working at.

I regularly travel abroad and wonder what kind of gift hairstylists would enjoy for themselves or their salon? I've given some food gifts before, but I was hoping to get some ideas for things hairstylists are really into. Hope you can help me. Thanks in advance!

Is my hair wavy?

I’ve been told yes it is and no it isn’t by so many different people in my life, and I never like how it looks, I’m just wondering if I’m doing something wrong. I washed my hair at 4:30 AM, it’s now 9:30 AM.I had it twisted up in a towel for about 20 minutes and then let it air dry from then, and it has not been brushed. I’ve been told I have very fine hair, but a lot of it. I know it’s not fully possible to tell without actually seeing in person, but could this shape just from having it twisted up into the towel? If not, what can I do to lean into it more?

Red hair help

hello! first time posting here. I was a natural redhead (see second pic), but unfortunately my hair went white at a young age. I have never colored my entire head until yesterday. I have just done roots and added balayage once or twice a year for dimension. I recently started seeing my friend, who has been doing hair over 10 years. she did a good job covering my roots the first time, and she recommended we do a full refresh on my hair this time. First pic was Pinterest inspo I showed (among others), second pic was my natural color from years ago (which I’d like to be as close to as possible), and third pic is what I got. I hate it, and I feel like it’s not AT ALL what I asked for. :( Any suggestions on how I can fix it or get closer to what I want next time?

How do I address a new allergy with my hairstylist?

This is going to sound very bizarre, but for the better part of almost 5 years now I’ve been going through rigorous genetic testing and bloodwork trying to find the cause of a consistent excema flare that isn’t easily treated by medication. This past week, we finally got results, and it’s something in my shampoo and conditioner. It’s a very common dissolution agent found in liquid shampoo and conditioner, as well as liquid soaps and dish soap. I’ve been advised to cut out all liquid items until we can narrow down what options will and will not cause a flare. I’ve been told this allergy is extremely rare, my allergists had two colleagues who saw it in medical school, and he had never seen it himself until me.

That being said, I go to a hairstylist once a month basically. I’ve been near fully grey since I was 18, I’m still in college and get my hair dyed frequently for my own comfort, as I hate being grey so young. That being said, I don’t know how to address this with my hairstylist. I know the color we use doesn’t contain the allergen (I found the ingredients online from emailing the manufacturer) but the shampoo and conditioner she uses are both products I’ve been advised to avoid for now. How do I address this? Do I stop getting my hair colored since we wouldn’t be able to wash it out? Do I just suck it up and use the shampoo and conditioner and just book it when I have 2-3 days following for the excema to clear somewhat? Box color isn’t an option, as I’ve yet to find a brand that is allergen friendly. I honestly don’t know what to do.

( I live in the UK so preferably one that’s easy for me to get aha) thanks so much I’m so stressed right now and had to cancel my hair extension fitting today because of the hair nightmare 🫠🫠 xx

Small question if you have a haircut service and it’s listed as a hour and it comes with a wash and maybe styling would that be mandatory or would you be able to just cut the hair if you were asked?

Please help I don’t wanna sound rude

How do I ask a barber/stylist to keep my proprtions and just tidy it up

I made a brave decision to cut my own hair because it’s super thick and it’s been difficult to find someone to execute what I envision, even with pictures. But I finally got the proportions to where I want them but I can tell it is a bit scraggly lmao. Asking for some good verbiage so don’t come off as condescending or anything.

How much would you charge/pay for this?

I’ve been doing a couple models for prisms and today is my last scheduled, so realistically (i’m in a town just outside one major city and a more minor city in scotland) would you pay, as a client or charge as a hairdresser for this?

It was a bleach retouch, tone and obviously vivid application :)

How to cancel out the red in my hair

Hello! Over the past 2-3 years, I’ve had my hair dyed by professionals multiple shades of brown. I used to be blonde and initially wanted to go back to my natural colour (I was told is level 6) but the stylists dyed my hair almost black to be begin with. Since then, Everytime I’ve been to the salon, we’ve continuously altered the formulas to find something that I liked. At one point, most of the formulas had more red in it. The following dyes were done to try and cancel it out.

I am at a point where I truly want to have my natural colour back. I’ve been growing out my roots for 5 months now and this is what I am left with. The red dye is still coming through quite strongly and I am so tired of it. The colour difference is not as obvious in indirect lighting, but as soon as I am in direct lighting (like outside) my hair clearly shows the different shades.

I am wondering if there is anything I can do at home to cancel out the red tones all while still growing out my roots ? If not, what could I get done at the salon to neutralize it and ensure I have a colour that allows me to fully grow out my hair without having to get it done again? Is my only option being patient and letting it grow out over the next 1.5 - 2 years ?

Thanks ! :)

Hi! Semi-permanent hair dye emergency

I got my dark red/cherry semi-permanent hair dye in the middle of december 2025. It is now april, i havent retouched it and its still not coming off.

It faded ofc but you can still see the red

+ my hair grew out and its light brown so it just looks a mess.

I wanna know is there a way to remove the color without just dying over it to my natural shade; or if thats the only solution, will it fully cover the redness or it’ll still be there after it fades out?

P.s. I heard about the vitamin c + anti dandruff shampoo solution, thoughts on that?

What should a partial highlight with toner run?

Just curious. Tried a new salon and they set me up with a new stylist of theirs. She is fresh out of school and I’m just wondering if her prices are normal for her skill level.

background: shes 19 and less than 6 months out of school. The salon is located in a suburb of a major Midwest city. I feel like what I paid was more aligned with an established stylist but I could be way off base.

Odd Haircut Experience

Hi there,

I had the weirdest haircut and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if this is a normal practice for some stylists. I came in for a haircut, and the stylist is usually late, so I waited.

The elderly man sat in the chair while she finished touch-ups, then left. She told me to sit at the wash station (no drape/towel), and I had to ask for a towel because I was wearing white and saw some hair dye on the arm of the chair. As I was sitting waiting to get my hair washed, she applied toner to her own hair in a bun.

We go to the haircutting chair, dusted with white whiskers from the previous client. I started wiping them off with my hand before I sat, then she took a towel and wiped the rest away. Hair is still on the floor, but it's white, so it's less noticeable?

She wet-cut my hair, left to wash her hair in the sink, then she comes back, blow-dries my hair. The appointment was 30 mins. Is this how some stylists operate or is this odd?

She gives me great haircuts, but this past experience made me feel marginalized and like an inconvenience. I didn't know what to say. I don't want to find a new stylist, but maybe this is her way of telling me to go away?

What can I suggest to my stylist next time they bleach my roots?

I was previously getting my hair done and a vivid specialist salon but I never liked my service there so I’m now getting my hair bleached at a local salon/barber and colouring at home.

This is how my first time getting bleached at the new salon looks. Last pic is how the bleach turned out at the vivid salon. I know what bleach the vivid salon used and my new stylist was able to use the exact same kind when they did my hair (O&M Super Nine + 6%). I don’t think bleaching is something this stylist would be doing a lot of in this salon.

As you can see there’s some banding and it’s not quite as light as I need it. Did it just need to left on longer or something? My purple hair also turned blue near my roots which is something that never happened at the vivid salon. I’m hoping to have less regrowth next time I get it done too.

Is a modern shag realistic for me and did I get it right?

Hi,

I've been talking with AI and am hoping to check whether the cut I'm looking for is realistic, and whether the instructions would make sense to a stylist. I've never had long hair before, so there's lots of confusion and uncertainty.

Background: Last haircut I had was a year ago, a buzz cut with guard 2 on the sides, and guard 3 on top.

Goal: A feminine, face framing, flowy hair that is as low maintenance as possible. Ultimately I'm looking to grow the hair past my shoulders.

So in talking with AI, it seems the best option is a modern soft shag that would look good now and grow out decently, and be lowish maintenance as well.

These are the instructions that I'd like to go to the stylists with:

  • I’d like a soft, modern, feminine shag with blended, natural, soft layers, and something that works with my natural wave.
  • Nothing choppy or overly thinned please.
  • For the front, I would like long, soft face framing layers starting around cheekbone to chin level, blended into the rest of the hairstyle.
  • My hair gets bulky at the sides, so please keep weight but remove internal bulk so the hair falls downward, not outward.
  • Please keep the perimeter slightly weighty but not wispy, so it grows out well.
  • I’d like it to look good air-dried, not just styled.

-

Am I realistic? Did AI hallucinate? Are these good asks for a stylist? Any help is greatly appreciated!
