Fired EasyHaul…I need shipping from TX to MN rn

So my first foray into buying via broker SalvageBid has turned sideways..

They took payment for acting as a broker to ship the vehicle via EasyHaul (BIG mistake!). Absolute radio silence from EasyHaul with daily storage fees adding up. Normally I book transport on UShip (yeah I know) but the cost looked good so I jumped. Never again.

I’m wondering if anyone knows an owner/transporter (NOT broker) that is good to work with? The car is in Texas waiting to go.

Saffron. Yes? No? And why?

Trying to ask the question here without it getting removed. So this time I’ll try asking:

  1. who’s used it
  2. Why you like it/didn’t benefit
  3. And any supporting info/source for the audience

Thanks

And because I need the minimum character requirements I’ll just natter away about random stuff here until I get enough words to count for a post.

Not really a product review.. I’m just happy to have found this YouTube video demonstrating using shellac with dye added on flooring as part of the finishing process. Yeah we all know shellac isn’t durable on its own, but as a seal coat it can assure that your floor finish will adhere properly - especially for a previously finished wood floor that might be a concern.
I really wanted to try dyes on my floor to give them extra depth and this is an alternative to applying dye directly onto the surface. So essentially the dye & shellac is almost functioning as a toner perhaps.
Anyways I wanted to share the video for anyone else interested in using dyes

What’s the best way to sand the surface on an area of a wood floor without ruining a neighbouring finish?

The stair nosing is remaining as-is, however the floors butting up to them are getting hit with the orbital sander. I’m legit concerned I’m going to ruin the surface. How can I guarantee this won’t happen? I need to do some minor wood filling in a few gaps etc. so no aggressive sanding is expected.

I have a metal trowel I can hold in place with my knee (lol)…but this doesn’t seem fool proof 🤔🫩🤷‍♀️ expert guidance here appreciated!

Any recommendations on a a lasting UV protective finish on my Ash floors?

I’m using a dye stain base this time then oil stain over top for depth. Dye stains really need UV protection to keep them from fading

I’m not a huge fan of waterborne finishes but willing to consider them at this point. But how will they behave over top of an oil based stain!?

Posting again as I couldn’t edit photos on previous question,

So I have 2 tags - first one the drivers side door “Fabriknummer” (which is the number on current ownership documents)

2nd tag looks like a VIN but the paperwork doesn’t reflect this number.

Can anyone please confirm which is actually the VIN ?

I have a vintage 73 Ford MK 1 transit connect ambulance imported from west Germany. My paperwork shows a different VIN number than this “vehicle No.” Is there another location on the vehicle I’m missing that has a VIN number? Or is this it? Thanks 🙏

I’ve had good results with dye stain top coated with an oil stain and toner for added depth on my cabinets (first pic). I’d like to do the same with our wood floors. The plan is to topcoat with a tinted finish as well, or add an initial base coat of tinted shellac prior to finish. Given the use of dyes what are some good UV finish options out there.

I’m not a huge fan of waterborne finishes but willing to consider them at this point. My mahogany stairs are finished with oil based stain also and need a UV finish for them as well. Thanks 🙏

These are the huge gaps in quite a few boards in our Ash flooring. This is the result of poor advice on what moisture level needed to be prior to install. No suggestions to try wood filler please as it just eventually crumbles - I know as it’s been tried previously. I’m considering attempting to fill them with thin pieces cut from leftover scraps. They are sure to break apart trying to work them into place but I’m desperate to try something that will hold up. So with a dollop of wood glue and patience might this work?? They are being refinished soon so this is the only time possible to attempt it! 🤔

Needing advice from the hive mind on color options for stain. I’ve posted examples of stairs and kitchen cabinets that I’d like to match the floor stain to. I’d like to go with 2 different colors - one for the majority of the floor and a second accent color. The floor has a border around the perimeter which would lend itself well to adding a second stain.

Of the options would be your choice for

  1. Main floor
  2. Accent color

Thanks for weighing in 👀

Dilemma: I’ve never seen decent results from previous attempts with water based stain. My project however is massive - over 1600 sf of wood flooring. The fumes from oil based stain will make the house uninhabitable for days afterwards which isn’t an option in this situation . Given this are there ANY decent water based stains out there? Or a lower VOC oil stain?

PS.. no minwax suggestions - it’s utter junk
