My sister just surprised me with a pour-over setup
So I’d been wanting to get into pour-over coffee for a while now, but honestly never got around to actually researching and ordering all the gear.
Cut to yesterday evening, I get home and my sister literally has this entire setup laid out on our table. Like, all of it. Completely caught me off guard.
I’m about to brew my first cup and I have to say, it’s pretty cool that she actually went and did this for me. Finally getting into the rabbit hole.
Time to make some good coffee!
Just realised where my love for Vetiver comes from, Story time!
I have a special place in my heart for the vetiver note. Honestly, my entire fragrance journey started with a vetiver perfume.
My then-girlfriend gifted me a bottle of Guerlain’s vetiver parfum, and I was absolutely hooked. Since that moment, vetiver has been my ride-or-die fragrance note. But yesterday, while chatting casually with my mum, something just clicked. I finally understood why I’m so drawn to it.
Rewind to my childhood: we had this old metal cooler in our house, you know, the kind that’s been in practically every Indian household. Back then, the cooling grass we used was dried vetiver (khus), and my mum had this lovely habit of adding a drop or two of khus(Indian name for vetiver) aroma oil to the cooler water. Our entire house would smell like a fresh, green forest—alive and earthy, never overpowering. I absolutely loved that smell growing up. I used to beg my mum to make sure she never forgot to add “that” scent to the cooler.
And there it was, the answer I’d been searching for without even knowing I was searching. My nose has been loyal to vetiver since childhood. All these years, whenever I wear a vetiver fragrance, I’m not just enjoying a beautiful scent. I’m stepping back into that simpler time, surrounded by the warmth of home and those quiet, comforting moments. Every spritz wraps me in nostalgia and takes me back to a world full of green grass, cool water, and my mum’s thoughtfulness.
That’s the magic of fragrance, isn’t it? Sometimes our deepest loves are just echoes of where we come from.
