Minimalist Box (Parametric)

After making some boxes, and once the perfect fit found, I decided to make a parametric file to make the process easier for me in the future. So as soon as I'll need a custom dimension box for board games storage, organisation or other purposes, I can make a new one in a minute !
You can find the parametric file here if you want to try it

I really like them with the fuzzy skin effect !

Simple Customizable Box

After making a few boxes and once the perfect fit found, I decided to make a parametric file to make the process easier for me in the future. So as soon as I'll need a custom dimension box for board games storage, organisation or other purposes, I can make a new one in a minute !

I made this based on my filter case after redditors requested a standard box. Despite being a "filter case" it can be useful for any flat object storage (Cards, tools, ...), and you can also adjust it using the parametric file.

Hello, I'm a DIT more than a focus puller, but I'm making some accessories for me and my AC friends on set so I thought of sharing some of the designs here !

  • Simple Focus Marks for Arri / Preston rings (Works on the Hi5 with WCU-4 rings, who has a lip, as shown on the first picture.
  • BNC Color Rings to help identifying SDI cables for complex video configuration. They actually fit well and don't prevent to remove the cable (I was perplex with my first print but tested it afterwards)
  • Filters Box. Actually I made them for small photography square filters, but I also made a profile for 4"x4" and 4"x5.6" filters. The model is parametric if you want to adapt it to other filters size / other accessories.

Feel free to ask me if you have some questions / requests !

Have fun !

EDIT : I added a focus Mark Holder to keep your filter marks on your AC box 😉

Hello, I know it's some kind of newbie question, but I'm working on some parametric boxes for 3D printing, and despite I designed the lid on the base of the box, I'd like to sit on the Z XY plane at the end, ideally with both pieces centered.

I'm able to do it with one piece but would like to be automatic for every parameter of the box.

Is there a best option to do it ?

Many thanks !

I'm sorry if this is a bit of topic, but i think it may helps the community, please feel free to remove my post if needed

I bought some squared shaped lens filter that especially for trichrome photography.
Unfortunately they are annoying to take with me since I have to carry one box per filter and the original box keep opening inside my bag.

So I made this parametric model to help everyone with the same issue (and a 3D printe) to make some nice boxes for their filters !

You can find the model here

Currently, the available print profiles are the following :

  • 4"x4" Cinema Filters
  • 4"x5,6" Cinema Filters
  • Cokin S (previously A) Serie  - both 67x67 and 67x72mm
  • Cokin M (previously P) Serie  - both 84x84 and 84x100mm
  • Cokin L (previously Z-Pro) Serie  - both 100x100 and 100x150
  • Cokin XL (previously X-Pro) Serie  - both 130x130 and 130x170mm

Please tell me if you need model for specific filters ! I'll be happy to help making custom one for you.

You can find the model here, I added several print profiles for common filters size / brand so not everyone need to use the parametric option.

Also I can't stop thinking that it may be useful for some other use, but can't figure it out, any idea ? Beer coaster ? Filament Sample ?

Hello ! I can probably do the math myself, but I think it will probably be more accurate (and obviously more fun) with the help of this amazing community.

Photography and 3D printing are my hobby, and I'm currently trying to adapt an old projector lens to an old school 4x5" camera.
I figured out how to add aperture to this lens by adding a slit for removable aperture ring, but the shutter design is a far more complex task.

For context, the shutter in a camera (or a lens) is the mechanical (or electronic) system that allows the film or the sensor to get a certain amount of light. While the aperture physically block some light from entering the lens (area), the shutter allows to adjust the exposure by adjusting the exposure time.

Shutter mechanisms can be complex, using motors, springs and a lot of parts. For my DIY project I want to keep it simple, so I choose to go with a simpler way of doing this : A "gravity shutter" (or as the French person I am, I prefer to call it a "Guillotine Shutter").

So my question is, how can I calculate the shutter speed related to the slit dimension on the shutter (D, as shown on the picture) ?

I guess that G is involved somewhere, but I wonder If i can achieve "standard" shutter speed with this design (between 1/1000th and 1/10th of second) My goal being to design an adjustable.

Note that the shutter speed is the time (in sec) between the opening and closing of the blade at a given line (like the red line in the last pictures)

Many thanks !

Hello !

I made this 3D printed lens box for travelling safely with my large format lenses.
Since I know I will get more lenses in the future, I designed this model as parametric and plan to upload it on makerworld soon.

I plan to do different profiles to have a basic set of most commonly used lens board / lens combinaison (for the one who don't want to use the parametric tool)

So I'm wondering what are your favorites lenses and camera lens boards.
Do you know where I can find the most common lens board dimensions and some rear / front distance between the board and the lens cap. Does such a document exist ?

Hope this will help the community !
