How to control tilt of splines?

I don't really have much to put here, making a rollercoaster, not sure how to describe the issue, but it should be apparent in the images.

Unsure of where to start reverse engineering this part

I'm obviously not the most skilled when it comes to reverse engineering but I have done a few simple parts. Usually I can get a mesh selection sketch and then use extrude or loft to get what I need. This part appears to have some pretty complex geometry (for my experience level at least). What would be the best workflow for something like this?

Edit for grammar

What is the proper way of measuring all these angles?

Hello, I’m trying to model insert, mount/case for the Stream Deck + XL and bottom side of this device has multiple angles that i need to measure. I’ve been having great challenge taking proper measurements here, anyone can help with the advice on hot to measure these.. edge cases, ha.

Thank you, so much.

What in the absolute f*** is going on here:

Since I updated this morning, whenever I import STEP files I get a mess of origin arrow things. They are identified as "construction" in the list. I know it's Fusion's fault because I went and opened an older STEP from last year and same problem.

Looking for CAD design ideas to retain a small compression spring to a 3D printed plate…snap fit or threaded extrusion?

Hi all, working on a 3D printed mechanical force sensor and I’m stuck on one mechanical detail: how to attach a small compression spring securely to a plate without it popping out under load.

My current prototype used a brute force approach, wrapping wire over the last coil and pinning it down into a wooden plate [photo attached]. It works for bench testing but obviously isn’t robust or repeatable enough for a proper 3D printed assembly.

What I need is a clean retention feature I can integrate directly into the printed plate. The spring sits between two parallel plates ~22mm apart, axially compressed or elongated by a few mm during operation. It needs to stay centred and not pop out sideways or axially when the plates separate or relatively move from one another.

Two directions I’m considering:

Option A, snap fit pocket: A circular recess slightly smaller than the spring OD with a thin overhanging lip that the last coil snaps into. Simple to print, tool-free assembly. Worried about the lip cracking under repeated load cycles in.

Option B, threaded boss extrusion: A short cylindrical boss that protrudes from the plate with a thread cut into it matching the spring’s coil pitch. You literally screw the last 1–2 coils of the spring onto the boss like a nut. Seems very secure but I’m not sure how to model the thread geometry to match my custom springs (different springs from the ones shown).

Has anyone done either of these cleanly in Fusion 360? Or is there a third approach I haven’t thought of? Would love to see example CAD or any tips on the geometry. Spring wire diameter is 1.0mm, OD 10.3mm.

Thanks in advance!

How can I extrude this surface with a tapered edge?

I used form to create a surface for a part which will fit in this mesh, but now the trouble is if i thicken or extrude and patch then it becomes too big around the edges and wont fit. My form points go up to the edges i want, and i wish i could do like a loft or something but I cant get it to work, extrude taper angle doesnt wanna work either. any ideas? I want to thicken it backwards into the part, not out as then the switch wont clear

3D printed Roller Head Speargun

I'm reposting this because I used the wrong account. This is a roller-head speargun that I modeled in Fusion 360; it can be 3D printed or even made with a CNC machine

This is a 100 cm speargun with a 16 mm bungee cord. The approximate cost to build the speargun is $80. I haven’t added the arrow guide yet, but everything is available on my cults3d profile. If you have any questions, ask me !

First time I found Autodesk Assistant useful

I'm not a big fan of generative AI and I was always quite skeptic about all the hype. Today I wanted to give it a chance to do something different than hallucinating about non-existent workarounds and help topics.

The problem - I have a model of PCB which was exported from external program. It has hundreds of components with single bodies in them. I needed to merge this into a single multibody component while retaining the original names. Obviously, this should be done by API script, but I haven't got knowledge and time to do it. Up till now I used to do that manually which is boring and time consuming.

So I asked Autodesk assistant to generate and run a script that will:

- Rename every body in every component so it resembles the original part name

- Make all the components independent

- Move all the bodies from separate components to root component

- Delete all empty component placeholders

And it worked. It took maybe 5 minutes to do everything. I'm quite impressed. I'll be hating generative AI a bit less now.

Beginner Question- How do I sketch this?

I dont know what math this is and I dont know how to calculate it. But I'm modeling an insert for a robot, this smaller rectangle is to hold the battery. I want it to all be uniform but as you can see the rectangle is touching the edges as I intended but the the top distance from the top right corner of the small box is bigger than the distance between the left edge of the box to the top left corner of the smaller box. Sorry it's a bit confusing how to word it but hopefully you can help me and understand my problem.

How Can I CAD this relatively easily

I need the screw points, really confused as to how to even start. Essentially just need a mount to mount 3x 120mm fans on the top.

Maybe I just don't understand threads

I'm trying to match the threads on an existing part. I need this hole to be 1mm smaller...

https://preview.redd.it/w5vvnuap56xg1.png?width=995&format=png&auto=webp&s=a50958fa0a900f5c7048b19cd9c671b145a21393

But I am unable to adjust the 15.263mm width, and the only sizes available are 30 and 32mm...

How can I adjust the hole size and use that thread pattern?

When joining bodies in Fusion 360 using the Combine (Join) operation, the join is perfect but the dividing edge still appears

Like 15 try’s later and I think I just about have a proper trackball housing designed.

I think I need to narrow the ball retention on top, but at least the ceramic bearings are sitting in a decent spot now. Next step will be to incorporate this into the right hand of the split keyboard I’m designing.

How can I get the arrange tool to get the desired result?

Does anyone know any arrange tool tips that would help me get the desired result from the attached screenshots? I know there is space for the desired result and I know I could do this with joints or constraints, but I'd prefer for it to be more automated and flexible. Any help would be much appreciated. I'll keep futzing with different rotation settings for now and will update this post if I find a solution.

Edit: I should have clarified that I have the two additional pieces selected in the dialog, but the arrange tool is failing to place them. That's the issue.
