Hey y'all,

I play keys in a jazz fusion band, (think Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, psychedelia with lots of interplay).

I noticed that I tend to lead most of the solos, which makes me feel a bit guilty. What I love about this style is that moment where everything blends together and it's hard to tell who's leading, just pure interplay.

I talked to our guitarist about it and she mentioned that when she takes a solo, she sometimes feels stuck or falls back on muscle memory, especially over static harmony or minimal chord changes.

I offered to do some work with her 1 on 1, but I realized that my entire concept of soloing comes from the perspective of a keyboardist, and I don't want to give advice that doesn't translate well to guitar.

So, I'd love to hear from guitarists;

What helps you break away from muscle memory?

How do you approach soloing over static or minimal harmony?

Is there anything a keyboardist can do in a band setting to help inspire you or make soloing feel more open?

Any insight is appreciated 🙏

Has anyone dialed in a good Mesa Boogie sound for Tery with their Joyo California Sound pedal? What are your settings? Are you running any other pedals into it as well? How are you connecting to your amp?

My phase 90 was picking up CB radio

I found this video from a few years ago. I was doing a little I am hydrogen loop and my phase 90 started picking up trucker CB radio. After I opened the pedal, I found I had a loose ground wire from an old true bypass mod I did. Someone will get a laugh out of this.

What does an Equator hollow body guitar sound like?

Well this should be more of a promo for y’all to follow Max on IG: @jedimindlicks then for you to pay any attention to me. He’s playing a 2022 hollow with Curly Maple top and Claro Walnut sides and back out of a Komet TA (Trainwreck clone) and appropriate pedalboard. Part 1.

Equator Instruments TA model with first coats

I did three of these in the first round. Really happy with how they are looking.

What amp are you using?

For those of you who have been able to afford the amp you pretty much wanted…..what did you choose and did it live up to your expectations? I had my eye on a Mesa Mark V 35 head for a long time and was able to pick up a used one in excellent condition that came with a 1x12 Mesa speaker cab. It’s a closed back wider body one, but not the “wide body”. Overall I’m happy but it’s definitely not what I expected for some reason. Thinking about building a Treyesque 2x12 cab. I currently have a Vintage 30 in my 1x12 and will obviously double that up if I build this thing.

Tell me about what you have and photos would be cool!

Furthermore I have the reissue Ross compressor which i didn’t really love at first but now sounds good with the Mesa setup. As of now I’m using that instead of the Analogman compressor, which I also have.

As far as Mesa head setting I’ve actually been dialing in a clean tone on the Mark IV channel and have been liking that a lot.

official account for Equator guitars.

David here! A friend and loyal customer asked if he could help me out with some social media stuff, etc. After the very positive response, I figure I better do it myself. I’m always more active on Instagram @equatorinstruments Both of these are available.

Trying to figure out the chord progression of that jam at the end of most events aren’t planned

It appears to go back and forth from A to Em but does anyone know the chords in between?

School me on modelers

I’m a 55 year old that’s not up on all the latest and greatest modeling equipment. School me on the best options for a guy who likes Trey like tones.

What modelers are best for those tones?

What do you need (besides the modeler itself) to play a) live; b) just record at home?

Im guessing it takes some time to get used to the different feel. Is this a dealbreaker for anyone?

What are the advantages or disadvantages I haven’t asked about? What surprised you about modelers?

Is there a steep learning curve? I’m not interested in learning a new language at this point. If I switch, will it be pretty straightforward?

Finally, feel free to share any anecdotes about your conversion to modelers, positive or negative.

Brief Time chords

Hope this formats correct. Feel free to DM me / hit me up on IG for the Google Doc…. I posted this on Emil’s Tabs as a current pull request along with Demons, WGTYM, and Everything is Hollow. Please feel free to share your covers and tag me! Here is the Google doc on here though:

Hello! WOW! @CariniJams / Portal Noir on Instagram here back at it again for you all. Questions, concerns, say thanks, share your cover? I'm on IG 24/7 so hit me up!

It is 5/12/2026, Trey first played this with Ghosts of the Forest proper on 4/4/2019. It has been 7 years, and nobody decided to chord out such a special song?
I get it. It's transparently a Trey tune sang to the masses. Important, meaningful, beautiful, and when I finished writing this transcription I played for my partner and she cried.. so how am I the one to get to this
seven years later? It's interesting to unfold that fact upon you all.
I am so so happy you are here reading this chord chart.

Trey plays this in Drop D Standard. Absolutely gorgeous.
" * strums Drop D open Dsus2 Chord * I can do this all day. " - Ernest Anastasio III, Grammy Museum, 9-25-19

Fiddle around a bit with the G>Gm>Dsus2 turnaround.
The way I'm going to write this is Dsus2 for ALL D string 0-2-4-5. It will be written under the same chord.
He is playing the open D string, D > E > F# > G as the 0-2-4-5.
You know the song by listening - so i entrust my fellow Phish fans to treat this song dearly, and delicately, as it is possibly the most fragile tune in Phish history.

DROP D:

Dsus2 >  >   > G > Gm > > > > Dsus2
E--0 - 0 - 0 - 3 - 3 - x - 3 - 0
B--3 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 5 - X - 3
G--2 - X - 2 - 4 - 3 - X - X - 2
D--0 - 2 - 4 - 5 - 5 - X - X - 0
A--0---------------------------0
D--0---------------------------0

Dsus2                               G

It's such a brief time we get to be here
Gm              D
All together as friends they come and go
G
We stand in streams of water
Gm
And circle round the sun

Until our time is done

*Intro again, A string: 0h2*

Dsus2                               G
It's such a brief time we get to be here
Gm               D
Crystal memories shimmer in my mind
G
Of laughing all together
Gm
I will always cherish
A
Till the end of my time

G                 D
And what was I so worried about
G               D
What a waste of time
G               D
I can't even remember now
A
I've seen smiles on passing faces

In a long unending line
G               Gm
It's such a beautiful world
Dsus2
And such a brief time

*Intro Again:*

Dsus2                            G         Gm     Dsus2
It's such a brief time we get to be here

YouTube Videos Showcasing the Majesty of the Languedoc Guitar

Trying to explain to a friend at work what makes the Languedoc guitar so special and coveted.

What’s a good YouTube video of a song where Trey really lets it sing, that showcases the sustain but also how articulate and dynamic it is.
