Is there a song by phish that has never been jammed out?

By this I mean do they have any songs where they always follow the structure, down to a tee? No type 1 or type 2 jams.

We always hear about the longest jam this, best jam that, it got me thinking, do they have any that they always play the same, no ifs ands or buts?

just wanted to say I love yall! 100+ comments in 30 minutes, I appreciate you guys immediately throwing some knowledge my way 😎

Hey y'all,

I play keys in a jazz fusion band, (think Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, psychedelia with lots of interplay).

I noticed that I tend to lead most of the solos, which makes me feel a bit guilty. What I love about this style is that moment where everything blends together and it's hard to tell who's leading, just pure interplay.

I talked to our guitarist about it and she mentioned that when she takes a solo, she sometimes feels stuck or falls back on muscle memory, especially over static harmony or minimal chord changes.

I offered to do some work with her 1 on 1, but I realized that my entire concept of soloing comes from the perspective of a keyboardist, and I don't want to give advice that doesn't translate well to guitar.

So, I'd love to hear from guitarists;

What helps you break away from muscle memory?

How do you approach soloing over static or minimal harmony?

Is there anything a keyboardist can do in a band setting to help inspire you or make soloing feel more open?

Any insight is appreciated 🙏

Absolutely wild. It’s like there’s 5 people on stage. Maybe a rough night for vocals but type 2 theme made it worth it!

Thx yall, have a good one 🤙🏻

Edit: I had to add, amazing work from Mr. McConnell segueing back into simple! Missed it the first time around but page hints at this transitional motif, which comes back around through trey back into simple! I think this is what trey meant when as long as you are listening, it’s impossible to run out of ideas…

I’m running a hammond XK-1 through a pedal board with a bunch of effects, (overdrive modulation, filters, delay, reverb etc…). I am particularly fond of this envelope filter growler effect on my M5 Stompbox modeler.

My dilemma is quite simple but a head scratcher nonetheless.

Do I run my organ into a Neo Ventilator 2 or a Leslie 2101 mk2 + 2121?

My main concerns are portability and the potential for my effects chain to accidentally blow up the 2101. I already sorta blew up a 2101 when setting up a previous rig, partially due to user error. I am keen to not make the same mistake twice.

I just got done looking at a leslie 2101+2121 for sale on marketplace. it had a weird buzz when I played a low F that went away when pressing down on the back panel, however we opted not to purchase until the unit is fully working without any quirks.

This is concerning to me because the unit is already misbehaving even before running my pedal chain into it. I have had issues with the envelope filters clipping if the levels on the mixer/PA aren’t set up right.

Let’s say the unit is completely fine and I have the option between the Vent or the Leslie 2101, for what I am going for, which is a gig ready, reliable rig that includes my various effects, do you think the leslie is a solid investment for years to come?

if the answer is anything but absolutely yes, I’m leaning towards the ventilator.

Thoughts?
