Is this asbestos?

This is inside the building I work in. Does this look like asbestos insulation ?

What’s the most common place asbestos still turns up?

I know it was used in a lot of older construction, but I’m curious which areas of a house people most often find it in now during surveys or refurb work. Seems like ceilings and insulation come up a lot but not sure what else is typical.

Condition of garage ceiling

Hi I did make a post a while back about this ceiling, it’s double stacked with a asbestos corrugated cement roof on top, not 100% on what this material is but it has been painted to seal it. Might have a survey done.

Has received a few knocks post paint, but I don’t see any sort of damage not sure what constitutes as ‘disturbance’ does this look safe?

There is some dark patches that from smoke incense is occasionally used inside the garage.

Is this asbestos?

Sadly only realised after putting downlights in.
Could it be artex skimmed over? Seems to be a white substance not panted.
In the cleaner hole it’s the thin white line between the two skim layers?
UK house built in 1958. No other rooms with it as they were all textured wallpaper.
There is the original plasterboard at the top.
First photo was where the original light was removed.

How disruptive was asbestos removal?

I’ve seen some stories making it sound like an enormous operation, while others say it was sorted fairly quickly by professionals. Curious what the process actually felt like day to day for people who’ve gone through it. Do you shift for some time or what is it like?

Did we mess up?

Siigghhh. Started doing reno on a flat from late 60s early 70s (SE england), we were asked to prep the floor so contractor could lay new flooring. Started ripping it all up, layer of carpet, layer of underlay, then under that some sort of burlap material on top of a yellow foam. Foam was disintegrating so we pulled it up/scraped it to get to the concrete subfloor. Not sure when (if ever) the floor had been last done. The carpet on top looked somewhat new but obviously the layer underneath was crumbling to pieces.

I became a bit worried about the glue having asbestos in about halfway through, for the first room there didn't seem to be any sign of black mastic or anything, but by the time we got into the hall there were dark grey swirled patches.

We were wearing masks and goggles and the asbestos survey for our building didn't mention the floors having asbestos in, although it did say it was in the artex ceiling, areas in the laundry and around some heating pipes in the basement and roof (now realising this might have just been communal areas tested and the floors weren't the same as the one in our flat)...

Did we mess up

Vintage toaster from a market, could this be asbestos insulation?

My friend bought an old toaster from a vintage market in the South East over the weekend that looks like it’s probably from the early 90s. There’s a grey-ish fibrous board material inside near the heating elements, which made us wonder whether older appliances like this used asbestos for heat insulation. Nothing has been disturbed or plugged in yet. Would something like this usually be considered risky to use, or is it more a case of leaving it alone unless the material is damaged?

Our electrician, despite our explicit instructions not to, drilled through the Eternit facade panels from the inside in several places throughout the house. 😳 Now we have debris on the outside, of which I can only remove the larger pieces, but more importantly, there are likely a lot of asbestos fibers on the inside as well. I'm at a loss as to how we should proceed; it seems there's a significant asbestos contamination, and we simply can't clean everything. The house is empty at the moment but there is construction equipment and open drywall and insulation everywhere.

I think this is just textured wallpaper due to the seams and the fact I could peel a bit, do you guys think it contains asbestos?

I also think the second photo is wood chip which apparently also doesn’t contain it?

I am super paranoid so any reassurance is helpful

Likelihood of asbestos in this linolium or adhesive

We are removing this floor in our Victorian house to lay tiles in the kitchen.

Taking out the kitchen space we thought there is a chance of asbestos but didnt consider it before.

How likely do you think this is to contain asbestos? I have a feeling this was laid in 2006 when planning permission was granted to move the outhouse toilet inside as a WC. Where I believe the kitchen was also moved around. The lino runs into the toilet so another reason for me to suspect this.

All the linolium goes around the new kitchen, the kitchen worktops don't sit on the linolium , but on concrete. so I am fairly confident this was laid as part of that process.

I found this catalog from 2004 in our house documents which again led me to believe this was all part of that process. Again on the spec the width is 2m per roll which lines up with the markings of the floor.

It rolls up and most of the cement/adhesive (not sure what it is) rolls up with it but some stuff stayed on the floor and is basically like sand. Under that is a cement block with bubbles on it which I think is from the leveling compound maybe?

I just want to know if I'm panicking or if it sounds likely to be asbestos.

Asbestos found under carpets

Regarding a newly purchased property built around 1930s in SE England. We got a simple asbestos survey and the surveyor looked at a couple of areas under the carpet. Two of the areas under the carpet/underlay had some vinyl which was sampled and tested. It came back positive for Chrysotile. The report said no removal or remediation is needed, and marked it as low risk.

We want to remove the carpets and put down laminate. Looking to hire some flooring fitters. We're worried about disturbing the asbestos during these works.

Did any one have this issue? If so, were your flooring fitters okay to do the job? What cautions should we take?

Planning to get my bathroom ceiling removed and replastered. These 70/80s ceiling tiles look to me like they consist of woody fibres. However researching this style of tile some say they may contain asbestos?

Is it worth getting a sample tested, or is that overkill?

Thanks

Hi All, looking for some advice please.

We had our asbestos waste pipe removed yesterday (by a contractor with asbestos training but not asbestos certified, arranged by landlords)

I’ve noticed this leftover debris which is now worrying me. The rain has washed some of it away (upon research it says it doesn’t get rid of the fibres entirely) but some remains.

Should I be concerned, how would I remove the remainder and ensue it doesn’t pose a health risk to me and my children.

Thanks in advance!

Home built in 1974, (England). Found these tiles under vinyl sheet flooring. This image was taken before the dishwasher was installed. There were a couple of broken ones before the washing machine was installed (I don’t have any pictures) and the tiles had a terracotta looking texture and colour on the inside. (Apologies for only one image, the flooring was only exposed for a brief period during moving in and I don/t particularly want to remove appliances to view the tiles again)

I obviously plan to get them tested before we do any work on the floor. But for the meantime, any gut reactions on the likelihood these tiles contain asbestos?

I’d be grateful if anyone with experience of asbestos in flooring could advise if this underlay board is likely to contain asbestos?

A while ago a builder removed several partition walls that I believe were installed in the early 90s when my apartment and others were converted from a hotel to residential apartments. He said the partition walls did not contain asbestos. I didn’t think to ask about the flooring underlay.

As the photos illustrate there are original wooden floorboards (the building was original built in the 1860s). I have no idea when the underlay was put down, if it happened in the 90s when the hotel was converted or decades earlier.

The former owner put down the laminate flooring down circa 2019. I think the pink carpet in hallway dates from early 90s.

Any advice appreciated, thank you.

This sub made me want to check some paper, a couple years ago we ripped up the carpet and sanded the floors in our 1890 house which we bought 5 years ago through the Help to buy equity loan scheme. The builder had laid the carpet over the Chrsyolite paper

When we sanded the floors boards with paper on were sanded in the process, dust everywhere as expected. Me as the average joe had never heard of Asbestos paper and would have thought due diligence would have been done by the builder. Guess we're cooked.
