The craftsmanship at the Sanctuary of Truth is genuinely overwhelming!!!

The Sanctuary of Truth is often discussed, but seeing it in person really puts the architectural effort into perspective.

The level of detail in the carvings representing various philosophical and religious themes is unparalleled. It’s incredible to think that this is a continuous project of preservation and creation. For those interested in traditional Thai craftsmanship and wood architecture, this place is a must-study

Car Shopping Experience

I’ve been living in Thailand for about 18 months, so definitely not a tourist. I started shopping for a new car and visited several dealers. All of the sales reps helping me are Thai and male, if that makes a difference.

I’ve purchased many cars in America and sales approach that I have experienced in Thailand is shockingly passive and disinterested. I can easily afford to purchase any of the vehicles but the sales reps have made zero effort to qualify my interest, ability to purchase or follow up. It takes multiple days for my WA or Line messages to be even opened. They rarely respond 😂

In America, they are known as order-takers, not sales people. There seems to be no incentive to close the deal whatsoever.

Is my experience unique? Is this how car sales are handled in Thailand? Is the sales approach similar for other big ticket consumer purchases?

If I can change anything about my approach as a buyer, I would appreciate any guidance.

Can’t use foreign bank account for EV charging

Just a heads up for anyone thinking about buying an EV in Thailand that doesn’t have a Thai bank account. PTT who run the EV charging app have discontinued the use of cards issued from a foreign bank account. So hit up a friend or get a thai bank account if you want to drive an EV in Thailand.

getting a bike for the first time in my life

I might get a low cc bike soon and it's my first time driving bike. I've been driving a car for 5+ years and automatically got a bike license when I got thai driving license. There are few things I'd like to know how ppl normally do.

  1. When it rains do ppl just park them in the rain? and then if you are riding it are you just expecting to your panty gets wet?

  2. Is leaving bikes in the rain normally ok for their condition?

  3. lets say you drove to a cafe, would you leave your helmet with bike?

  4. what would I need in rainy season? or should I just avoid driving while raining?

  5. Is it bearable to drive under the sun in March-May? ofc I know many ppl don't have choice tho.

Buying a motorcycle in Thailand and travelling to Europe?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has travelled to Thailand on a tourist visa, bought a motorcycle, and then travelled internationally with the Thailand-registered bike, perhaps even all the way to Europe?

I am interested in doing a motorcycle trip from Asia to Europe, but I am just thinking about how realistic this plan would be. Can tourists buy and formally register a motorbike in Thailand and then travel overseas? The plan would be to buy a brand new motorbike from an official motorbike distributor.

Cheers!

BKK: moving from new small apartment to old large apartment

I’ve been living in Bangkok for 5 years now and am looking for my next apartment. I’ve been living in the same apartment for 5 years (magnolias waterfront) and am looking at these massive apartments and townhouses that are 240-280sqm and located in older buildings.

Anyone done the same and what do I need to watch out for? Like do I need to worry about the pipes, insects, noise, etc? In my previous apartment, we had concierge and everything was within warranty so the apartment complex would fix things. I’ve heard some horror stories about the pipes but I never had an issue at my place - we installed a water filter on the sink and the shower and baths never made anyone sick. But that’s in a new building.

Sleep apnea specialists in Bangkok or Hua Hin?

Hi,

I am looking for reputable clinics/doctors/hospitals to do a sleep study - I live in Bangkok so open to a ‘take home’ test or in house overnight test.

My father in his 60s also has one of the worst cases of sleep apnea - he refuses to use a CPAP machine, so has anyone had one of those mouthguard things that position your tongue to clear the airway made?

Any alternatives appreciated. He also had heart surgery last year so I really want to find a more sustainable option

Thanks in advance

Looking for rice farmers / suppliers (rice husk, straw, bran, or paddy) – research use

Hello everyone,

I’m Rey, a PhD student from Chulalongkorn University. My research focuses on jasmine rice waste materials, specifically rice straw, husk, and bran.

I’m currently looking for farmers, rice mills, or suppliers in Thailand who can provide:

Rice husk

Rice straw

Rice bran

Or whole rice paddy

This will be used strictly for academic research.

If you are a farmer, know someone, or can recommend a rice mill or supplier, I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you so much!

Conscript experience and development

Hi,

Recently, I've observed videos online of recruits being conscripted in the Thai military, mostly army. Truthfully, I don't know much about the army, but I've built a decent relationship with the local recruiter over the past couple of years for the professional corps. That said, for conscription itself, I'm told you do two years active, then move into inactive reserves.

My question is: given such a short contract length, how long is basic training? Once you complete training, how long is your specialty training? On top of that, do you pick your duty station? (I know you pick your duty station if you do it online voluntarily) Do you pick your MOS? How do they actually determine your occupation specialty for the job? I assume it is dependent on the tests you take when you enter and pass medical.

Has anyone been through this? Appreciate the time and help. I understand that Thailand is a regime security force somewhat and is not optimised for expeditionary warfighting. I'm not asking about the politics of war. I'm more interested in professional development inside the corps.

Good luck to anyone sitting the Airforce exam’s this cycle.

Thank you in advance.

If you are African American, what has been your experience living in Thailand?

Basically the title. This year I am applying to a Fulbright ETA and Thailand is one of the countries I’m considering. The specific placements for ETAs in this country are urban, suburban or rural cities outside of Bangkok. Overall I’ve heard great things about the country but I’d still love to hear everyone’s experiences! For context I’m from the southern United States

Is Kasem Bundit University worth it? Any similar budget universities in Thailand?

Hi, I’m from Myanmar and I’ve completed my first year at a university here. I’m currently looking into Kasem Bundit University (KBU) but I want to ask for honest opinions and also other recommendations.

  1. Is Kasem Bundit University a good choice for international students? How is the quality and reputation of?

  2. Are there other universities in Thailand with similar tuition fees?

  3. Which universities accept British Council's English score test results? (I don't have any of IELTS, TOEFL, etc.)

I’d really appreciate honest advice or experiences. Thank you!^^
