Does anyone bother spacing out the kids in your families? Particularly in the earlier parts of the challenge.

From what I could find realistically people weren't getting pregnant right away after having a baby since breastfeeding acts as a contraceptive sorta, and I do have my lifespans long enough to be able to allow me to do that without being too rushed to get some surviving kids. However the game doesn't have that kind of mechanic even with mods, so part of me just wants to not hardcore try for another right away, but if it happens let it.

What does everyone else tend to do? Do the women of your guys saves get a break or is it right back to business for them?

First 5 years.... The heartbreak is real!

I was going to wait until the first decade passed to do a post, but I honestly don't know if I am going to survive until then!

1299 - Create my family. Dad (gen 0), Mom, 3 kids (Edrik, Colin, Alice) + Edrik's wife (Novella). Dad does not survive the first roll.

1300 - Colin passes away from Typhoid fever (dickenson's illness). Mom dies of Tuberculosis (Lizzy's winter roll)

1302 - First child is born - Mary

1304 - Mary dies of a Bowel infection. Later that day, 2nd child is born - Thomas.

1305 - Novella goes into labour and needs an emergency C-section. Obviously, she dies, but the baby (Isobel) miraculously survives. Soon after, an outbreak of Scarlet fever rips through the house. Everyone survives, but Isobel develops Rheumatic Fever.

Meanwhile, Alice discovers that her secret rendezvous in the woods left her unmarried and pregnant. Since Edrik spent most of their savings on supplying milk from the neighbours to keep Isobel alive, her future is looking quite bleak indeed. (I used MCCC to look at it. Its twins. Wish me luck on her survival cause I don't know how I am going to raise 4 kids with one sim!)

Total sims: 9. Deaths: 5. Surviving: 4.

EDIT: Well I offically have proof the game hates me! Alice and both her babies failed. Even after I cheated and rerolled. Edrik remarried Elizabeth only for her to find cooking absolutely hilarious and die of laughter less than 12 hours after moving in. Time to reload the game and remarry her I guess!

Game updates

Hey all!
I am doing the ultimate decades challenge and may family has only made it to 1304, but it feels like a lot of investment and time!!
The new game update reallllly messed with all of my families. I’m kind of freaking out 😅
Does anyone know if any of the historical mods need to be updated before game play? (I use all the main ones recommended by the rules and this thread)
Also, how do I get cc back? Help!
My little hamlet thanks you!!

Is Royalty and Legacy good for decades?

Hey all! Been a longtime simmer and I'm super into decades/royalty/period gameplay.

I was wondering what everyone's genuine thoughts on the royalty and legacy pack were since I'm considering getting it? Is it good? Is it disappointing? It's kinda everything I could want from a glance, but I haven't been able to look more into it since its release since I took a break from the sims.

This is Erikur Kynesman (Im doing a Skyrim/ES theme for names lol) I'm sharing this Sim because He is Not the Heir, He Never Marries, and he only has 3 Baby Tries! Its also 1314, heading towards the Great Famine and he already used his Mulligan! 😭 He just aged up this way! Other than some CC Cosmetics, I didn't have to change anything structurally... So, I wanted to share him here in case I lose him too soon! 😅

I don't think I actually showed the whole royal family I made for my new Ultimate Decades Challenge series. This is the Plantagenet Dynasty that ruled over England for around 330 years before the Tudors took over the throne.

  1. The whole family as they were in 1300

  2. Edward 1st of England (1239-1307), nicknamed Edward Longshanks for his height and Hammer of the Scots for his conquest over Scotland. Married first wife Eleanor of Castile in 1254 and had around 16 children, but not all survived to 1300. Eleanor died in 1290 and Edward went on to marry Marguerite (Margaret) of France in 1299. They had 3 children together before he died in 1307.

  3. Marguerite of France (1279-1318) married 60-year-old Edward when she was only 20 and was a loyal wife even after his death. She got on quite well with her stepson, Edward 2nd, and was respected for her beauty, piety and virtue as a queen. Her niece wound up marrying Edward 2nd before Marguerite died of an unknown illness in 1318.

  4. Joan of Acre (1272-1307) was the eldest child of Edward and Eleanor to reach adulthood and survive to 1300. After the death of her first husband, Joan was left with 4 children and ended up falling in love with Ralph de Monthermer, her late husband's squire. She managed to get her father to knight him and they ended up having 4 more children together before she died in 1307 of an unknown ailment.

  5. Margaret of England (1275-1333) became the Duchess of Brabant after marrying Jean 2nd the Peaceful, Duke of Brabant. However, it wasn't a very peaceful marriage. She was forced to accept her husband’s mistresses and their illegitimate children, who were raised at court alongside Margaret’s only child, Jean 3rd the Triumphant. Jean 2nd ended up dying in 1312 after a prolonged illness, whereas Margaret lived to see her grandchildren be born, including Jeanne, who became Duchess of Brabant after her father and brother's deaths. Margaret died sometime in 1333 from an unknown cause, but the exact dates aren't known.

  6. Mary of Woodstock (1278-1332) became a nun at only 7 years old, much to the delight of her grandmother. She wasn't confined to the abbey, however, and often frequented court. Mary's career in the church wasn't amazing despite her high birth, but she did oversee the education and spiritual training of other aristocratic nuns. Her penchant for high living and gambling meant she was also in quite a bit of debt for a nun, despite her large income, and had to have both her father and younger brother support her financially until she died in 1332.

  7. Elizabeth of Rhuddlan (1282-1316) at the start of 1300 was recently a widow and had had no children in the 2 years she was married. She was said to have been her father's favourite, and Elizabeth was vehemently against her first marriage, as it would mean leaving England. Her second marriage to Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford and Essex, in 1302, was much more successful. They had 11 children together, but unfortunately, Elizabeth died in childbirth in 1316, alongside her newborn daughter.

  8. Edward 2nd of Caenarfon (1284-1327) was the youngest child of Edward and Eleanor to survive to 1300, and was the only male heir at the time. He was the first to hold the title of Prince of Wales and started the tradition of passing the title on to the eldest son of the monarch. In 1308, he married Isabella of France (Marguerite of France's niece), and they proceeded to have 4 children together. Edward had a favourite in a man called Piers Gaveston, who was of a similar age, and it's rumoured they had more of a romantic relationship. He faced a lot of opposition as king from people who didn't think he was up to the task and those who hated his close relationship with Gaveston. Interestingly, Edward's wife and her lover, Roger Mortimer, emerged as an opposition in 1325. It ended with Edward being deposed and formally abdicating in 1327, and murdered later that year by, supposedly, having a red-hot spit thrust into his bowels!

Hope you like them and somewhat enjoyed the quick history facts!

Her husband, the crown prince, died during a sweating sickness outbreak along with his other wife. Maevra and Auren were basically soulmates and deeply in love with one another and it’s quite devastating that they only had five years together, 325-330.

They have two living sons and she’s pregnant currently (twin boys). Auren also has three daughters with his first wife Cassandra but she actually unofficially lost her rights to them after she poisoned Maevra and cause her to loose her first pregnancy. Cassandra was put on house arrest and not permitted to see her children as punishment and Maevra stepped in as their mother figure. An actual improvement by the way.

I started a save in ancient Rome. I needed a break from my other save so I decided to try a more time accurate one in a period I really like. I chose to play at the Lower Germanic Limes near the Rhine. The woman is Elantia from the Batavi tribe and she is the healer. The man is Tribune Lucius Gaius Fabius. He is an officer with the Legio XVIII and of patrician blood. They have a son, Maximus, and it will cause quiet the drama with Lucius' family since they are important back in Rome and Elantia is not Roman. I also chose this legion and this time period in ancient Rome for a particular reason hehehe

I thought I would share since I know I've linked it a bit when posting here, but I moved my masterlist for mods and cc. It's a lot better than it was on tumblr previously and eventually I will delete my tumblr entirely. Anyways, here you go!

The difference in the portraits is probably due to a mix of laziness, not having a nice place for portraits and not having built the world out enough to cover weddings etc so it was a make it up as I went for the first one.

Portrait 1, Crown Prince Auren & Lady Cassandra Tathdel, 315. (Ages 15 & 16).
Portraits 2/3, Crown Prince Auren & Lady Maevra Mcarthurs, 325. (Ages 25 & 21).

He was married to them both, simultaneously, it’s permitted in this world.

I’m playing the Ultimate Decades Challenge and I’m currently in the year 1303. I originally started with three different Gen 1 Sims and gave each of them a spouse so I wouldn’t have to stress about those relationships while focusing on my main household.

My problem is that I don’t want to keep visiting the side households every time they try for a baby or age up, but I still want to keep up with their family lines and see their descendants grow. What should I do? Would it be better to make my own dice system for pregnancy rolls and baby genders, then manually edit everything in CAS?

Journal entry from Heir Cassian

It is November the 16th of 1321. My father says that legacy is important. So I shall write in ink the history of our family. Perhaps this is more of a journal for my own self but I hope the family may use this for years to come.

In 1299 my father and mother got married. Mother’s family belong to the streets. Father was a begger as a child. As an adult he worked on farms to earn coin. Mother’s family payed mere penny’s for them to marry. They did not hate each other but as many marriages of today it was transactional. A home a cow chickens and a family for my mother. A chance to gain reputation for my father.

My father earned a job as a merchant. When mother and father moved in together mother made a friend in this neighborhood. Alexandra. She was of higher class a lady of the court. Living outside of the castle to bring “perspective” to the king of the land. Though I doubt any perspective was actually brought. Lady Alexandra was pregnant along side mother. Expecting her first baby, lady Alexandra’s 5th.

In 1302 the 5th of May Alexandra went into labor. She and her daughter passed that night. My mother grief stricken gave birth to a baby girl. The next moon. She named her Alexandra.

1304 mother suffered greatly from this pregnancy she lost two baby’s during birth. Denota and Joan. Not twins but a placement of time is all. The family suffered greatly. For a daughter alone would make the transaction of marriage pointless to father. Mother worried he may seek comfort with somebody else. For a while I’m sure he did. We were able to afford our first cow named copper. She provided us with many milk that we could sell to bring us chickens. Who brought us egg and feather. The family was improving but socially in trouble. Alexandra though named after a lady could not bring the family wealth.

In 1306 Collette was born. In the cold of winter. In an attic with a crib made of wood and cloth, a small bed for Alexandra next to it. Mother doubted she would survive the winter. Father hoped she wouldn’t. Another daughter brought shame to the family. Mother and father bickered. Father searched for comfort elsewhere leaving mother to take care of the house farm and children all day.

In 1307 Amibilis was born. Daughter number three to the Doudney family. Five if we’re really counting. As Alexandra grew to the age of 5 she started learning her role. To help cook and to help clean. Helping with the garden when needed. The small house got smaller. Without a son father worked all through the summer to the fall building a bigger house. Reluctantly of course as his end of the deal had not yet been returned.

  1. I and my twin sister born on a cool spring day. Cassian and Avice. The deal has been done. A boy for father to raise and another helping hand for mother.

In 1311 Alexandra, after contracting the pox of some sorts passed in the night. The oldest of us, the namesake of mothers close friend. Both had left us. Life kept moving and while I was young my sisters remember the difference of what mother used to be.

It is a decade later. I am in my thirteenth year. College was of age and married a boy from the village, Calvin, of a milk farm off the bay. I hope many fortune is brought to them. They may soon be joining us back on the property as me and father have had plans to buy a large property to grow our crop.

As Amibilis grew she grew mysterious. Secretive. She met a strange boy from a strange family, none of whom look the same. Each with weird behaviors of their own. I worry my sister has been roped in. I pray the lords keep her safe.

Avice is a crafter, to knit with her hands is a gift supplying the family with warmth for the on coming years.

I pray to whatever’s up there that the family remain safe. And that I carry out the end of the deal.

Posting here for the first time, but this is my longest played UDC family so far, I started in 1330 because previously when I played the udc challenge I got to 1330, and I didn’t want to take forever before getting to the Black Death haha.

It’s really lucky that my sims have survived the plague and all the various famines that plagued the fourteen century in France. They’re doing pretty well, all things considered.

This is the Fournier family, currently my third gen heir is Jacques Fournier and his main line are Vigners (wine-makers), but him and his eldest son and heir Laurent got drafted to fight in the 100-years war. This is the second time Jacques is being drafted. Jacques and his four teenage children are in the middle of the picture. His youngest Marie is the one wearing the blue dress, and his oldest Laurent is to his right.

Jacques’s second eldest brother, Elyot is a Huntsman for the local lords forests. He’s married and has three living children. That’s after having eight kids, so he lost a lot of children to childhood mortality. He’s on the far right of the family in in the picture, wearing a feathered cap. His wife is called Catherine and she was a travelling merchants daughter.

On the other side, to the left of the picture, is Vincent, Jacques’s youngest brother who became orphaned at three years old, when his mother died of the black plague and his father died from the famine after it, he became an apprentice as soon as he was of age. He’s a trained Scribe and rolled to never marry.

To the far left, is Robin, previously married to Genevieve, the only surviving sister of my heir. She rolled to have a lot of kids but died in childbirth after her first. He’s holding his son Charles who’s eight years old and so far survived his rolls.

While I do understand the dice roll system we have now for death rolls and such, I actually don't really enjoy rolling for every single sim every single birthday. It becomes tedious and I'm worried once the family grows too big I'll just not want to do it. So what systems do you guys do? What do you recommend as alternatives instead of completely getting rid of death rolls?

I finally finished the Beaumont home and their makeovers as well. Mostly to age the mother in appearance and then to kind of make them have similar outfit styles and colors to the best of my ability. I lost 2 UDC before this one due to corruption and then getting a new PC, so I didn't want to start over again at the time but knew eventually I would play it again. So I have been slowly chipping away at this save for years now. I will probably end up doing rotational play though because I love every Serf, Peasant and Merchant family I have made. I still don't really care much about the monarchies and nobility...they look cool, but the actual gameplay ideas for them are boring for me so far,
