histamine and rosacea

Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to figure out if histamine might be a trigger for my rosacea and wanted to see if anyone relates.

I’ve noticed some pretty clear reactions to certain foods:

- Strawberries → almost immediate nausea, weird stomach feeling, like I might throw up

- Tomatoes → consistent flushing / rosacea flare

- Kimchi → same thing, noticeable flare-ups

It’s making me wonder if this is more of a histamine intolerance situation rather than rosacea.

I’m still trying to connect the dots.

I want to try an antihistamine just to see if it will improve my skin, my inflammation. I want to buy some on Amazon, which one should I buy and how do y’all use it ??

Is this why I’m getting painful red skin!? Nicacinamide in my foundation?

When I go to work, my skin seems okay until I go to leave in the morning. As soon as my face sees the morning light- (even uv1-2) my face goes red and swollen! It’s not sun burn and I tend to tolerate the sun fine but other days I don’t… I think I’m making the connection? It tends to only happen after work!

Is it my skin being super sensitive after a whole night wearing this? I work night shift and long hours so it’s sat on my fade for up to 11 hours before I go to leave for work!

I didn’t even notice this ingredient because honestly I’ve worn this foundation for years… but recently developed sensitivities.. and I’m actually starting to think this ingredient is new for this brand?

So… could it be this? I’m not sure what niacibamide does but does it make skin sensitive?

Anyone been on doxycycline, clindamycin, adapalene, and benzoyl peroxide all at once?

Saw my doctor today to get a referral to see a dermatologist for what I believe is rosacea and she prescribed all these in the meantime while I wait for the appointment. I’ve never seen a dermatologist before and never seen anyone for help with my skin so I’m not sure if this is normal? Idk it seems like a lot but what do I know🤷‍♀️. Has anyone been put on this combo before?

I took this pic while I was waiting for her to see me so this is what my skin looked like when she saw me (this is a very very mild flush for me)

Best mineral sunscreen for rosacea w/ a very very sensitive skin?

As the title says, i am looking to explore a few different mineral sunscreens brands, my skin has always loved the zinc but the current sunscreen i’m using is a bit too ‘heavy’, meaning it leaves a white cast very easily.

Maybe there are some good option with no active ingredients whatsoever besides the zinc that are actually lighter?

Has anyone experienced flushing on face, neck and knuckles?

I was diagnosed with rosacea this time last year and I’ve had my symptoms relatively under control with an initial round of doxycycline followed by consistent use of azelaic acid and metrogel. I still get occasional intense facial flushing due to fatigue and/or stress (I work a physically demanding job and long hours) and it is sometimes exacerbated by a margarita or two after work! 😜

HOWEVER, I’ve never experienced sudden flushing like I have tonight. It was my face, neck and my knuckles (?!!)

Is this normal? Is this something else?

Avene Hydrance Aqua Gel Replacement

Hi all! I’m looking for a dupe/replacement for Avene’s Hydrance Aqua Gel. It was the only moisturizer that felt like it lasted and didn’t make me flare up. Unfortunately, they just recently changed the formula and it’s very thick and drying :/ I’m really upset and desperate for any recommendations! Thanks

I need help/recommendations

Hello, M30. My skin has always been terrible since i’ve been wrongly diagnosed with eczema and put on topical steroids for 7 years. I would use them 3x/week and they completely destroyed me and my skin. Fortunately a few years back i went to a different dermatologist and she told me it was actually rosacea, put me on protopic to counteract the TSW and ease the inflammation, and since then i tried almost everything for rosacea, metro, doxy, soolantra, azelaic acid and so on. As you can see, despise being low bodyfat and physically active, my cheeks and overall face are always and i mean ALWAYS swollen. but swollen in what looks and feels like an ‘inflamatory’ way. i can’t understand why. On too of that i also have a lot of vascularity due to topical steroids abuse.

I need some help and guidance from people in a similar situation, what could i use/do to improve my situation?

Thanks!

Swollen upper eyelid for 10 months, worsening and feeling completely lost

Looking for some help with my swollen/lumpy upper eyelid. Dermatologist has said I have seborrheic dermatitis or rosacea (and presumably possible ocular rosacea?).

I had a small chalazion starting in June 2025, which I had a steroid injection for in August and then incision and curettage in September. Since then, it has gotten worse and more swollen. The eyelid is constantly inflamed, lumpy, and irritating.

I feel it is now deformed and nothing I've tried, including multiple courses of steroid drops, lid hygiene, lubricating drops and ointments, and 3 months of doxycycline, has made any improvement. My condition continues to worsen. The doctors I've seen have just advised more warm compresses and to give it more time, even though it has almost been a year since this began.

I've seen many oculoplastic surgeons, ophthalmologists, and a dermatologist, and nothing anybody has given me has worked. Nobody's given me a real plan to get this sorted, and I'm absolutely lost and devastated that this is still the condition of my eyelid.

I don't know how to cope with this anymore, as it has massively impacted every aspect of my life. My vision has deteriorated in the affected eye, and I experience irritation every minute of the day, making it more difficult for me to work. I am uncomfortable socialising due to how it looks and feels, and my self-confidence is at an all-time low.

Just looking for some help or hope. If anyone has any idea of what to do, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you.

1 year post diagnosis, main learnings so far

  1. Azelaic acid is not my friend (yes, it took me year to realise this!)

  2. Mineral suncream is a must, every day, non negotiable. Not going outside? It doesn’t matter, still put it on

  3. Do NOT get hungry. I haven’t seen this mentioned much but I’ve realised a big trigger of mine is hunger, I’m guessing it’s related to stress hormone

It’s been an expensive journey so far but I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel!

Azelaic Acid is not for me. What other treatments provide similar benefits for Rosacea?

Azelaic Acid seems to be the magic treatment for Rosacea. For the ones who cannot tolerate Azelaic Acid, what's been a good alternative treatment?

Do you use more than one treatment to compensate for not using Azelaic Acid?

I noticed a small area of hypopigmentation using Azelaic Acid so it's not for me. Finacea has a warning sign about hypopigmentation, which is uncommon, but it happens. In the  Fitzpatrick  scale, I don't fit in one category -my skin burns, gets red, then gets a tan. For many, many years, I'm super careful about not getting any sunlight on my face.

Pustules

So for the last year I’d been experiencing pustules which I’d never had before just baseline redness.ive since learnt that this is how rosacea can progress.lucky me,ive dealt with the redness for best part of 30years and just about stayed sane and then bam pustules out of no where.just some helpful advice for anyone in a similar situation,I had 6 ipl sessions which has made a massive difference to the pustules but only really saw an improvement after the 5th.i am also programmed in to have 3 excel v sessions beginning next month and have been advised on consultation to take supplements of magnesium, zinc and vitamin d3.

Rosacea worse after doxy?/Suggested isotretinoin

Hello! I have type 2 rosacea with a very short dermatologist history. I was diagnosed like less than a year ago and was first put on 20% azelaic acid that I still use. it did improve my skin, helped with the acne and the redness. After some months I got given doxycycline (iirc 100mg once a day) for 6 weeks. During that time I had absolute 0 break outs, which felt good. I've now been off it for 3 weeks and my skin is starting to look it's absolute worst. I look redder and I'm so very itchy from the pimples... it's hell. It's pretty much back to square 1 before I first started with azelaic acid. so I'm hoping with time it could start looking better again? :( Anyone else had this issue?

During the follow up with the derm she suggested I use isotretinoin and reading the information sheet she gave me, I'm feeling kind of hesitant. To be honest I don't like getting blood tests and this sounds like a very serious medication.

She gave me until Wednesday to think about it. I don't know what will happen if I say no. I'm not sure what other options there are. I hate this shit so much. Has anyone here been on isotretinoin? Did it help? :( Need some reassuring words, I am so very scared of needles.

Thought on probiotic serums / moisturisers for rosacea ?

I’ve seen a few of those Instagram dermatologist recently recommend adding a probiotic serum into skincare to help repair skin barrier in rosacea sufferers.

Does anybody use one and see positive results ? any recommendations?

I see the purcell biome 2million (not sure on full name) recommended a lot.

Cleansing

Has anyone just stopped cleansing with an actual cleanser for a week or two and had improvements? I decided to just cleanse with Lukewarm water for a week and it already feels less dry and mad. I don’t know if there’s a repercussion to not using a traditional cleanser or not. I don’t wear makeup currently and have not been able to wear a sunscreen cause everything has been irritating at the moment so I don’t have a need to “cleanse” off those types of things. I only use Vanicream cream at the moment as a moisturizer after rinsing my face with water

Does this look like die-off?

6 nights of ivermectin and I took a night off and got all these tiny white heads. Does this look like die off or just them being active again because I took a night off?

Favorite cleanser for oily but sensitive Rosacea type 2 skin? Fungal acne safe options only pls

Accidentally discovered my rosacea safe cleanser (bioderma pink rinse off cleanser) is triggering fungal acne, I need a new suggestion.

When I try looking, the top recommended cleansers for rosacea have fungal acne triggers

Open to all suggestions aside from Vanicream which is too gentle for me and doesn't get the oils off my face

Help me

Hello everyone! I'm a 15 year old boy with rosacea. When I was about 14, I was prescribed Miravso. I used it for about a year and it seemed to work great for my skin. However, recently, my insurance has been cut off, and now miravso has become extremely expensive. Knowing this, 1 am unable to use it. Anyways, what I did not know was the rebound redness for Miravso. Rosacea obviously kills your confidence, and seeing that people have used Miravso once and had horrible reactions, I am worried now. I am noticing that my skin flushes very bad. However, my doctor said that they can provide Rhofade. I'm stuck on whether I should go on Rhofade and save the troubles or go without and it keep this reaction up until whenever it goes away

Looking for simple ingredient moisturizer + sunscreen recs

Hi everyone, I’m at a total loss here. My skin is absolutely disgusting and absolutely nothing I put on it makes any difference. I’m currently using (in the AM) byoma milky toner, LRP double repair moisturizer with SPF (or the regular double repair moisturizer and adding mineral sunscreen drops) and then just whatever makeup I’m using. In the evening I use Prequel cleansing oil, Cerave cleanser, and I alternate nights using the Remedy dark spot corrector/retinol and the peach slices super fade serum, then finishing with double repair moisturizer. When I first started using the retinol (5 weeks ago) I really thought my skin was looking better, but now all of a sudden my pimples and bumps are back to how they were before. I think I need to go way back to basics and start with a very simple skincare routine and start from scratch. Any good recommendations for a moisturizer and sunscreen? FYI, I hate the blue and white vanicream in the tub. Way too thick and occlusive for me! TIA!
