Advice on how to get over crummy LNS workers who make you want to quit the craft altogether

I was working really hard on a very lovely needlepoint project, putting in hours a day, and then I attended an event at my LNS and I left feeling SO bad about myself, basically in tears actually. Nothing drastic was said or done, but this one LNS owner or employee has the WORST attitude the last few times I’ve gone in. Not my first run in with this person, but truly I don’t know what her problem is. I know better than to take it personally, because I’ve seen her be extremely rude to her own coworkers. Like, my jaw has actually dropped at the way she treats them (when she thinks no-one is around). She MUST be a higher up because I’m assuming anyone else would have been let go if they acted that way. But yet every time I always take it so deeply, I guess I am just too sensitive or something. It makes me want to never go back, and I get a feeling of dread whenever I look at my projects. I’ve been to other LNS that also have not very nice employees too! It’s kind of wild the lack of customer service that seems so common in this craft actually. How do I get over my sensitivity to this? How can I remove the association of this horrible negative energy suck from my beautiful projects I’ve worked so hard on? I wish I could just order all my threads online but kitting in person is simply so much easier/better.

FO Moby Dick by way of Jaws

My bf’s a huge Moby Dick fan and we both love Spielberg, so for his birthday I found a Jaws-inspired Moby Dick poster that I adapted to a canvas on Stitchly. I wanted the variegation on the threads to feel more splotchy and natural so I stitched in 10x10 grids of basket weave for the sky and whale, which might be my new go-to for stitching in Basketweave now because it was way easier to keep track of my stitch count. Finished in a Sudberry wood box, used Threadworx for the thread.

See through when finished?

First picture without flash and second and third pictures with flash… I was hoping the background color would provide enough coverage so you wouldn’t see the Charleston text, but it’s showing through. Should I remove and try to paint over with a matching lighter blue? Or, will it not show as much when finished as a pillow? Or, last resort just stitch as the design is intended?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Hi all! I am a reddit lurker but have never posted, so I hope I am asking this in the right place. I apologize if not!

I have recently been getting into needlepoint, but as I am a broke grad student, buying pre-painted kits is currently not an option for me. For my first and only project I painted my own canvas using a pre-made chart off of Etsy. However, I recently discovered that many Etsy charts are stolen from small businesses/ independent artists, so I am wary of Etsy for obvious reasons.

If anybody knows a reputable Etsy chart seller or a way to create your own canvases, please let me know. I am also open to suggestions for a similar, more affordable hobby!

Thanks for the help! Happy early weekend!

EDIT: You guys are seriously the greatest! Thank you for all the advice : )

first finish!!

super proud on how my first capital F finished piece turned out!! the canvas is coco frank x inslee - color swapped the bees (and added 2). tulips are tilli thomas essentials (continental stitch), bees are tilli thomas essentials (long stitch), and the background is silk&ivory (Byzantine Mosaic Stitch). had the frame lying around and got the map custom cut at hobby lobby!! 🌷

I saved this from the trash today... Cats be fishing...

I found this on the curb this morning with tape all over it so I pulled it out and let it dry...

I like that the cats have their own line in the water...

Needlepoint stocking finishing by a seamstress?

I'm embarking on a needlepoint stocking journey. I designed the canvas myself and will be painting and then stitching it. I was wondering about finishing. I know stocking finishing is pricey and I'm well aware of the long wait times for LNS finishing as well.

Has anyone ever had a seamstress finish a stocking before? Do you think it'd be doable and reasonable for a seamstress to do it? I'm not a sewer at all (I've done some ornament finishing here and there but that's the limit of my sewing experience lol) and also don't have the equipment to properly sew, so I'm hoping to find a way to keep the price lower if possible and the wait time shorter...

My second ever finish ⭐️

I’m so proud of how this canvas turned out! I plan on finishing it into a door hanger as a gift for a friend.

If anyone has gentle feedback on how to improve my stitching I would be open to it since this is only my second ever canvas (but I have been cross-stitching for a couple of years). I did have to use my snag-nab-it tool to clean up several of the stitches because they were fuzzy - any way to avoid that in the future? 🩵

Rittenhouse visit questions

I'm going to be visiting Rittenhouse in Philadelphia in a few weeks. I will be picking colors and ordering wool for a couple of projects. Is an appointment necessary? I wouldn't think so, but this is a huge logistics thing so I am not taking chances.

I'll be driving, so any tips on parking or the area is also appreciated.

Canvas back question

I’m relatively new to needlepoint and just learned basketweave. I know the back isn’t important but am I doing my basketweave stitch correctly?

Pillow finishers?

I want to finish this canvas into a pillow! This is the kind of pillow I want it to be. Do you have any suggestions for a finisher? I want to preferably keep it in the $100-250 range.

TRVL design vs LL Bean

I am looking for a new needlepoint bag. I’m currently using a Trader Joe’s tote, which I actually like but it’s very flimsy and my things are getting a little squished.

I know a lot of people use the LL Bean tote and I love how structured it is. I just can’t decide on handle length, color and monogram. I’ve also seen the trvl design bag and while it’s not as thick as the LL bean, it does seem to stand on its own

Anyone have either of these and can weigh in? Or even a different brand is fine. I just need a bag that is structured, stands on its own and not ugly lol

Satin Stitch help

Any advice on my satin stitch? Something looks not right about it to me (first time doing it). Should I try horizontal or vertical instead of diagonal?

What should I do for the IA if I keep going diagonal? Thanks!!

Postage Due - KC Needlepoint?

Hey all!

Has anyone experienced having postage due when ordering from KC Needlepoint? It's free shipping--I ordered just one skein of Silk & Ivory (I live in a needlepoint desert). When it got to me, the mailman came to the door and I had to pay $6.20. I ordered it on May 7th, and it got to me on May 13th.

It's not the end of the world, but I'm confused because it was supposed to be free shipping, and I've ordered from them before with no issue. I live in New York State, if it makes a difference!

I bought this Coco Frank x Inslee Farris for myself for my birthday a bit ago and I’m ready to finally kit it. I plan to use as a pillow so it will be getting some wear and I plan to basketweave the entire canvas. I have seen the Coco Frank blog recommendation for fibers, but I’m not sure I want to stitch with Silk and Ivory. It always ends up feeling fuzzy-ish to me. What would you do if you were doing this canvas?

In case you needed another sign not to order from Poppy and Patch/Poppy & Patch/Poppy & Patch Designs — they lied to me in writing to say their canvases are painted. Then, when I posted this to facebook, they emailed me to threaten a cease and desist.

Other known issues/common complaints:

  1. Stolen designs from other artists
  2. Exclusively using AI images — they don’t actually have any poppy and patch branded tape, all orders ship with this blue tape, even that is AI.
  3. Every listing and email says final sale. The only reason I was able to get a refund is this email.
  4. They have no reviews on their website — I went to leave this as a review and there is nowhere to add it.

They did say they’ll refund me once they have the items back and sent me a label. I dropped the package off today and emailed to let them know (paper trail people!) and am hopeful that I’ll actually get the refund, but I have a great paper trail for a chargeback if needed.

Adding this here since they have NO place on the internet where you can directly leave them a review. The website has no reviews and no review options, Facebook has the reviews featured turned off. Reddit works really well for SEO and will pull posts with their name, especially if it’s in the title and repeated multiple times in the comments.
