Siu Yuk & Chicken Rice
Base in the EU. Made these at home recently. Nothing more satisfying than a successful siu yuk made at home.
What are some MUST TRY non-fancy restaurants that one must try if they're coming to KL for a vacation?
I'll be in KL for around a week and trying to collect a restaurant list for the whole time. So I'm looking for gems that only locals know about and would die to eat even though they've been in Malaysia themselves. Stuff that only Malaysia or KL is a master of.
Idc about halal stuff, in fact coming from Bangladesh, I wanna try lots of pork dishes as I don't get to eat it in here.
Preferably affordable (non-fancy).
Food shouldn't be watered down for tourists in the restaurants. I want full Malaysian, authentic, GREAT stuff.
Nasi kak wow @ D'Cempaka Ancubic, Pantai Dalam
I noticed this place on google maps and decided to check it out.
The restaurant was in the lower ground level of this building (accessible from the outside).
There's a fair amount of street side parking, so it's not a big issue. I did go before 12pm, so I'm not sure what it's like during peak hours.
Extremely clean, air-conditioned. Plenty of seating. Great layout of their food.
You have a choice of nasi kak wow, or nasi kerabu, with your choice of proteins.
I took a pack of nasi kak wow ayam, asked them to add some curry chicken feet to my plate. Also asked them to put the sambal on the side as I wasn't sure how potent it was.
Chicken curry gravy on top was excellent, mildly sweetish as the east coast style is wont to be. Fried chicken and chicken feet were also great.
Sambal was excellent, mild and slightly sweetish again. This plate cost me something like RM9.00 - I didn't take the receipt.
Definitely will be back again.

Where to find Osmanthus Cake
Hey guys, my wife has been really obsessed with a C drama recently and I really want to surprise her with some osmanthus cake that's always in the show.
I bought one from Kwan Kee Store, but she said that was more jelly like, and the one from her show was more white and cake like.
I cant find any info online, can anyone help me please? Thanks in advance!
Need to find this noodle!!
Hello everyone! Need to find where exactly I can get this around KL! It’s not the kicap type one but I remember I ate this in Kepong Manjalara area but Idk exactly where it at :( Please please let me know if any of you guys can find this!! It’s amazing.
What's a food from your hometown that you genuinely cannot find a good version of anywhere else?
The kind where you've tried every version in KL and it's just not the same. Could be a specific dish or even just a specific stall. What is it and where is it from?
Does anyone have the recipe for Yaoyu Maifun from Seremban
It's a pretty unique dish and it only exists in Seremban. I really wanna learn how to make this dish myself because I don't live in Seremban anymore and even when I go home, I don't wanna wake up at 7am just to eat this at the Pasar Besar 😭. The only recipe I found online is this really old blogspot article and I'm not sure if it's legit.

Nasi Tomato
Akhirnya jumpa juga nasi tomato ayam masak merah kat grab di Shah Alam ni🤭🤭
Kedai nama Kueh Cafe. Hari ni kat grab ada offer B1F1. Jadi beli 2 set nasi tomato (makan brunch & mlm) RM18.97 total. Ayam masak merah dia besar dan sedap.
Manakala pulut udang/pulut panggang dia, kurang berlemak sikit. Kat Kedah rata2 pulut udang yg dijual berlemak. Teh ais Kueh Cafe ni sedap, teh pekat elok dan X berapa manis.
Pedas tip - Dealing with spicy food or chili on your skin. Share you tip.
If you’ve eaten something way too spicy, try putting an ice cube in your mouth and "gargling" the cold water for a few minutes. It helps numb the heat much faster than drinking room-temperature water.
Also, if you’ve been cutting chilies and your hands or face start to feel the burn, try rubbing a little bit of cooking oil on the affected area. The oil helps dissolve the capsaicin (the spicy chemical) and reduces the pain significantly within a few minutes.
Mee Tarik ! What’s in the broth ?!
I visited Kuala Lumpur back in November and tried mee tarik on a recommendation, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.
I know it might be a pretty standard, everyday dish for many of you, but in the UK it’s surprisingly hard to find … especially halal versions. I’ve genuinely searched everywhere and haven’t come across anything close.
I even brought back some chilli oil from one of the places I tried mee tarik hoping I could recreate it at home, but I’m still missing the key part: the broth.
Does anyone have a good recipe or guidance on how the broth is made? Also, is it typically chicken-based, beef-based, or does it vary depending on the region or shop?
Would really appreciate any insight. I’m determined to try and recreate this properly!

A5 Wagyu 40% off at Jaya Grocer KLGCC Mall
RM63 for 180g, original price was RM108. Not sure what cut it is but it was pretty lean. When cooked, it wasn't very oily at all, but flavour wise excellent and the meat was very tender.
Steak sandwich. Sourdough, lettuce, roasted garlic, mustard mayo.
Topping for leftover Alfredo pasta.
Malaysian Pop Up
Nanyang Kopitiam on Yonge. Was it as good as Malaysia? No. Was it something the GTA lacks and did the job? Yes! Very small menu. Really just this and eggs and toast.
Authentic and most delicious Sarawak laksa at a homestay in Bario, Sarawak
Where in KL can you get fabulous Sarawak Laksa? Appreciate to hear.
Real question: Where to find authentic carbonara that's not made of cream in KL?
As much as I love pastas in cream, I find out that everything I know about carbonara is a lie. Carbonara is just basically just "pasta goreng dgn telur".
Are there any places in KL or PJ that serves carbonara according to the actual recipe?
