I got an interview through cable
I didn’t ask for this to start off with. My uncle kept forcing me to give him my resume and it took him 5+ months for me to finally relent. I know he has some insane connections and truthfully, I didn’t want to use it. Kononnya mok dapat dengan usaha kedirik la tek. And I know it works. His daughter for her studies and I know he was involved with the PPD so my mom could transfer to a different school faster.
Regardless, I got the email for the interview and it’s for a lecturer position that has me scared shitless. I guess it’s from my educational background but anyway, it doesn’t help that I’m officially diagnosed with anxiety (currently taking meds but hey my body still reacts to ‘danger’).
I don’t know what I’m freaking out about. Is it the position? (context: I hate teaching, I avoid becoming a teacher but ig lecturer is a different story), or is it because it’s going against my morals? Or do I just have low self esteem for this position and I keep degrading myself for something I never tried or ever considered.
I got a job offer at a private company but my parents and relatives are pushing me to go for the cable thing because well… it’s under State. Honestly, I’m just rambling. Fear, scared ugh anxious brain iykyk
What's the current job market? I received a lot job interview but company showing a sign of not hiring people. Most of company I've seen is they keep reposting the vacant position for the last six months.
reddit.comshould i join this mnc or sme?
im a fresh grad in ops management and im torn between joining a well known mnc as a graduate analyst that has records of frequent layoffs (some of the people i know have resigned after 6-7 months bc of the pressure), or do i join an sme that is a digital marketing agency that has good working environment, good boss, chill leave system and even offer to teach you your job from A-Z as an account manager? i feel like gravitating more towards the sme because i have friends there who have proven the positive work environment and adequate worklife balance (pay is also as good as MNC), however am worried that it might not look good on my CV if i were to pivot to MNC after 2-3 years. do advice🥹
I’ve been job hunting for a while now, and one thing that stands out is how often rejections come with zero feedback. Most of the time, you’re just left guessing what went wrong - whether it was something in your CV, how you came across in the interview, or something you didn’t even realise you did.
I’d really like to hear from people on the hiring side. From your experience, what are the things that make you immediately pass on a candidate? Not just the obvious dealbreakers, but even the smaller details - like when a CV feels too generic, or when it’s clear the candidate didn’t really understand the role, or even subtle communication issues during the interview.
I feel like a lot of candidates are probably making the same mistakes again and again without realising it, simply because no one points it out. Even small, honest insights would genuinely help those of us trying to improve but stuck figuring things out on our own.
Extra Work during non working hours
Hello,
This is a throwaway account.
I am here to ask for opinions. I got job inside the cybersecurity field. I would say good pay for a fresh graduate, < RM4k. Though, my working hours are normal, 9am-6pm. However, I am constantly being pestered after hours requiring me to reply emails and stuff. INCLUDING weekends. I tend not to reply them but then I just get an earful the next Monday. I am not being paid extra or able to claim OT. I am constantly being nagged at for not working after hours too. Sometimes, I arrive 8PM at home I am asked to join meetings up until 2-3AM. then I get scolded next morning for arriving late. Not including vendors that I need to handle calling me at 10PM just when I am about to sleep. Its so mentally draining. This is just the tip of the iceberg, aside from all other task that doesnt make sense.
Im so mentally drained that I want to resign. Am I justified for this?
Hey everyone!
I've been working in a international SME since last year. This company's MD is an expat. Throughout my time here, I've witnessed multiple, almost daily instances of verbal abuse by the MD to the employees. I understood that this has been going on ever since he entered the company and he was actually worse back then compared to how he is now.
I am an executive and I directly report to my HOD who reports to this MD. Almost every day in the meeting room, I can hear him hurling insults at the HODs, yelling at the top of his voice, slamming the table and even resorting to personal insults by mentioning their parents, spouse etc. Nobody thus far has dared to speak up against him.
There was once when he came to the lab to talk to my team. I had my hands in my pocket and he yelled at me to take them out. I was shocked because this display of unprofessionalism was astounding and I have never seen anything like this before in my other two previous companies. That was my first time experiencing his emotional abuse firsthand.
Anyway, seeing this happen almost daily, I try to ignore it and go on with my work as I genuinely like working with my team. The other day, I sent an email to one of our counterparts (the MD was in the loop) and he responded to my email in red, bolded font aggressively asking if that email that I sent was necessary. He then proceeded to barge into our office to yell at me. I tried to explain myself and my POV and he just kept talking over me and trying to intimidate me. In the middle of explaining myself, he mentioned my dad and I got upset and told him to stop disrespecting me and to not bring my dad into this. He proceeded to walk up close to me to intimidate me. I backed off and told him he could fire me if he's not happy with me. He then proceeded to ask me if I am not happy working in the company to which I responded yes and he congratulated me for speaking up. He then proceeded to explain why he was upset with my email (which he could've done in the first place) and returned to the office. This whole experience left an extremely bad taste in my mouth and I am particularly upset he had to mention my personal life.
I am wondering what I can do about this. So far, my options are:
a. To report to JTK. I was planning on doing this once I get a new job and I get an opportunity to tender my resignation. But I am not sure if it's advisable to just do it now. I have some evidence in the form of recordings, WhatsApp screenshots and email screenshots.
b. Tender my resignation now and report to JTK. I have no job leads at the moment and I am afraid I would need to risk a period of unemployment.
Going to the HR is not an option as its pretty much common knowledge they won't take any action (his abuse has been going on for 5 years with no consequences whatsoever). There's a whistleblower platform to the main HQ but I don't have confidence in that either.
I would love to hear from you guys if you have gone through any similar situations and your advise on what I can do.
Many thanks in advance 😄
Fresh grad data engineer — contract job, no increment, RM3k salary. Opinions and advice?
Background
I recently finished my internship and landed a data engineer offer in the Klang Valley area. After two months of unemployment and a tough job search, I was relieved to get something — until I read the fine print. What I initially thought was a permanent role turned out to be a 2.5-year contract (inclusive of a 6-month probation period), with no salary increment throughout, and a 3-month notice period. The base salary is RM3,000/month.
My concerns
- Salary stagnation: RM3k for the full 2.5 years with zero increment. Others with the same experience length may be earning significantly more by then.
- Market positioning: I believe RM3k is already on the lower end for fresh grad data engineers in KL. Starting low may anchor future offers even lower.
- Jumping ship difficulty: A 3-month notice period makes it harder to take up new offers mid-contract — most companies won't wait that long.
- Overthinking the future: I know I need experience, and 1–2 years here would build my foundation. But I can't help worrying about where I'll stand after 2.5 years compared to peers.
What I'm asking
I'm genuinely grateful for the offer — I know the job market right now is brutal for fresh grads. I'm planning to use this time to build a solid foundation in data engineering and jump to a better role with real experience behind me. But I'd love honest takes from people who've been in similar situations:
Is RM3k acceptable for a fresh grad data engineer in KL right now? How much does a stagnant salary during your early years actually affect your long-term trajectory? And with a 3-month notice clause — if a better offer comes along, is it reasonable to negotiate or break it early?
Any advice and opinions are really appreciated. 🙏
Edit: I'm not sure whether it's really a probation role since it mentioned that there's a performance evaluation after a few months. Sorry for the confusion if it's sth different 🙏
What was the moment you realised your workplace was actually toxic and not just "challenging"?
There's a fine line and a lot of us cross it without noticing until we're deep in it. Was there a specific moment that made it click? How long did it take you to finally do something about it?
Working while having no friends or anyone to talk to sucks and made me miserable. Seeking advice
I'm a fresh graduate and got my first big job 2 months ago. The job is overall okay but it's kinda miserable how I have no friend I can talk to.
Everyone in my department is 30-40s while I'm the only one in their 20s. Literally have no same/similar age co-workers. But the people here are super friendly and nice, it's just that I have problem with talking or connecting with older people. Like, I have no problem with new or younger people but older more experienced people intimidated me.
I'm super awkward and painfully shy. Due to having no one to talk to, it makes my job miserable and difficult and it's stressing me out.
Has anyone experience this? What is your advice for painfully awkward freshie here? 👉👈
Stayed 4 years at my first company, got 5% increment each year. Friend job hopped twice in the same period and doubled his salary. I don't regret the experience I gained but the math is hard to argue with. What's your take, does staying actually pay off or are we just telling ourselves it does?
Any senior and wise in tech got career or life advice
Tldr: stuck, boring life.
I am a foreigner thinking about working in Malaysia after my graduation, I worked online here and there from my uni year and now I get paid around 14k RM. But kind of feeling stuck. My experiences are not in big companies and I find it hard to get callbacks or interviews in those companies. Also since I am maybe considered fresh grad, my pay will also be maybe less as I am not sure how they will evaluate me + non-local maybe auto filtered. I also looked at neighbour SG and similarly no call backs, but since their currency is stronger maybe easier to increase. I am mainly looking at popular companies like grab, ali, razer, etc. maybe working in more popular company can later help my cv visibility rather than staying same one for longer. I can also stay since the company is growing fast and my pay, but don't know if it will be that much growth in future.
My expenses are kinda low, single guy, I save most of my income and my parents are also kind of well-off so no financial stress. My work environment is also very relaxed and honestly after completing my task i mostly just scroll reels. So it's kind of boring.
So my question how should i try to progress as I am not getting new interviews and stuff. Any companies in Malaysia I am missing. Since I don't have that much needs, I kinda just want to work more and maybe make money.
I think I'm a pretty okay engineer, good at system design, have experience in go, cloud, ai (have A* paper), and project management.
Also what do you guys think about masters and PhD, let's say in moving to better paid countries, since I don't think any SWE jobs really need it.
Feel free to comment on any part.
Currently underpaid - applying for position almost double last drawn salary
Context: I'm currently working as a project manager(usually involves tech implementation) in a medium size retail chain, joined the company during covid, no job no money, was being taken advantage of the situation, offered a much lower than market price. Managed multi-million projects(warehouse automation), even saved the company a financial risk of RM 106 million from a M&A deal (I did the DD and suggested termination)
Now, at 33, I finally decided to leave this company and start job search, only to find out that I was severely underpaid. The new position im applying for starting pay is about double of my current but I'm worried that the "last drawn" cannot justify for the new and I'm unsure of what expected salary should i fill
Anyone here has that company that always pay you on the 7th instead of paying in between 1st-7th of the new month.
HR law said that no company is allowed to go past the 7th.
I'm in a contract role and it's anxious cause I only receive my paid on the 7th day at the night between 9pm and 11pm
Is that a red flag? Anyone has that kind of experience?
Where else to apply for jobs
I will be placed in PIP soon (unconfirmed but gut feeling is telling me I will be). I will have around 3-4 months time before I get let go.
Besides LinkedIn, indeed, Seek, where else can I apply for jobs?
Also if your company is hiring and you have paid referrals, you may recommend me in also. IF I can do the job that is.
Job offer
As per title.
I got a job offer (internally) to Canada.
Was offered CAD 70k p/a.
Current salary is 4.5k MYR.
Is the living cost there high?
Open tech & bilingual roles hiring in Malaysia (KL) — sharing in case it helps someone
Came across an internal list of roles being hired for in Malaysia and figured I'd share since I know the job market has been rough lately. Mix of bilingual service desk roles, SAP, core banking, dev, and infra positions.
Happy to point people in the right direction if you DM me. Good luck out there.
Fresh Graduate, finding my first job, is it normal that the company asking for EPF number, TIN number and bank account while filling the application form?
Edit: Forgot to mention, haven't interview yet, just applied this morning and the hr contact me via WhatsApp
I'm curious is there anyone here sometimes has no task or low on task? Do you feel fulfilled or like yeah, i don't care. I got the financial flow coming. That's all it matters. Anyone here has that experience?
I'm currently at that part that I will be busy for a peak season and then it slows down. Like more free time than work time. Sometimes here and then.
Do you stay or like yeah, i need to be occupied with task on hand
