Malaysian filmmaker Heng (@curryheng) transitioned from the film industry into entrepreneurship by investing RM100,000 to launch 2nd Floor Cafe (@secondfloor.my) in Petaling Jaya.

The rooftop cafe is inspired by cinematic aesthetics and is designed as a “third space” somewhere people can gather beyond home and work, especially for late-night hangouts. It serves fresh kombucha on tap and focuses heavily on community-driven experiences like workshops and cycling meetups.

Even though the business has faced challenges like declining sales, Heng continues to focus on long-term growth by prioritizing progress over perfection. The cafe blends social interaction with sustainability, aiming to build a strong local ecosystem rather than just operate as a typical F&B outlet.
