Two days with Fios TV+ and I hate it vs. TiVo
Verizon sent us some new gear. We've had our TiVo Series 4 for a LONG time (replaced two fans) and we love it. There's nothing like it.
I tried the Fios TV+ and it's such garbage. My notes will be based on how it compares to a TiVo.
- Can't watch live TV while navigating
- DVR shows are buried a few menu items deep (home, DVR, then your shows)
- FTV+ keeps assuming I want to watch Matlock just because it was on CBS when I hooked the thing up. It's not a favorite show, guys. Stop that.
- Switching channels takes 3-5 seconds (instantaneous on TiVo)
- When you update your remote, it holds your entire TV hostage. Apple TV doesn't do that.
- Lost remote pairing twice in two days.
- No enter button when changing channels, so you have to put in your three numbers, and then WAIT. TiVo has an Enter button.
- There's no DVR button, you have to go to home, which kills your Live TV feed, and then navigate the system. Bad UI.
- There's no way to get tech info on a channel. For example, TiVo says that a channel is "720p", FTV+ says "HD". Useless.
I hate this thing. Sending it back.
