Low ping but high latency. Will VPN bypass this Fios congestion?
Just curious for gaming (Xbox) if a VPN can bypass daytime/peak hours congestion? I live in a major city very close to downtown, so a very high traffic area. My speeds and ping always stay the same. About 900 up/down and 20ish ping in game. However during the day I can feel a considerable amount of latency that isn’t reflected in my ping. This goes away after 11pm or so and it feels like a night and day difference.
I am hardwired in and have tried connecting directly to the ONT with the same result. Verizon says it’s an Xbox issue and won’t help, but I feel as though it might be overload on their infrastructure here or just poor routing of my gaming packets.
I’ve read that a VPN can help bypass this congestion, but I don’t know much about it. I am fine with my ping going up (again it says 20 but it feels like over 100 during these times) if the packets can be routed better to avoid the congestion. Wondering if this is a possibility or if anyone could add some color here. Thanks!
