BREAKING NEWS: a fork found in kitchen

BREAKING NEWS: a fork found in kitchen

I’m most likely late to this. I don’t know how to explain but while it feels shocking and “newsworthy” I think it’s just a reflection of society or culture because this was something we have to deal with every day. Yes, not every day do you let the store get this bad. But it was so frequently that it’s like “who raised yall?”. And there’s comments saying the same thing and it’s like “well if nobody is doing this, but it’s getting done at every store somebody has to be doing it”. with running skeleton crews, calling the sales floor associates, managers, etc to hop on the register it eventually just becomes playing a game of catch up and you’re weeks behind.

Of course the question becomes how do we prevent this? And corporate would answer “yall need to patrol the sales floor more frequently “ but how can that be done if there’s nobody on the floor or everyone’s in line?

Cut hours

Sooo I started working for a brand new Burlington location on march 23rd of this year. I was helping set up the store before it opened. I was averaging 25-30 hrs a week. Then within the last three weeks, they’ve cut my hours so bad. I’ve had on average 11 hours a week now. I’m a cashier and I’ve been amazinggg. I’ve mad cashier of the week twice in a row. We opened on April 4th, and I’ve done nothing but do my best. Now I have only 5 hrs this week and I won’t get paid because we get paid on Fridays but I’m scheduled for Saturday. I don’t know what else to do. I have a son to support as a single mother. (I go by kat but I real name is Kirsten btw)

Sales Floor Role Question

Any other sales floor people (particularly full time) being used as a full time cashier?

I‘m scheduled as the back up cashier from noon to almost closing, so through three shifts I am 1 of 2 cashiers.

When I took the job I thought it would be more working in the back or actually on the floor (the previous person was back of house or on the floor) and maybe if the lines at the registers are longer than normal THEN I’d help at the front, but I’m almost never not chained to a register.

I try to go to the floor when asked to recover something (rare) but it seems to always be an afterthought and when I ask about it management gives me the runaround dragging their feet on letting me do anything else besides cashier, and then they just pull another cashier to do the thing I can be doing (like truck).

I have no problem cashiering in theory because obviously it’s part of the job, but all the time though seems excessive for my position when I’m there 40hrs a week. I feel highly under utilized.

Anyway, asking because I‘m front end fatigued 😅

What the actual fuck

I went in for my orientation. Manager thought I had good charisma and hired me on as a supervisor [I went in as just a Stocker part time]. Was waiting all weekend checking my schedule it said no future shifts on the ESS app. Last I checked was close to 10pm on May 10th.

Fast forward to today (May 11th 6:30AM MST) my EMERGENCY contact was contacted to see why I didnt show up for my shift. I have ZERO calls on my actual phone even though I put it in my contact information.

Like what the fuck, just had to vent because I get being called in whenever as a supe. But I checked before going to bed and it said nothing.

Safe to say my husband turned in my keys and badge for me and I won't be returning because honestly what. the. fuck.

Cashiers Can’t Find Transaction for Return

Hi all. Hoping to get insight from cashiers. I tried to return an item I bought yesterday but they said they couldn’t find the transaction. I had the card I used (confirmed by double checking my bank statement) and entered my phone number (only phone number possible). They said they couldn’t find any transactions with my card or phone number despite the fact that I had made two separate purchases there this week. They said they could only scan my ID and give me a gift card. They also said it’s impossible for them to look at any past transactions or re-print a receipt after the transaction is closed. I don’t typically shop here and the gift card to me is kind of waste since I likely won’t have a need to shop there for at least another two years. It’s not a big deal but I just can’t wrap my mind around such a poor system and I didn’t want to keep bugging the teenagers working the registers.

Having worked sales/cashier jobs, I find it hard to believe that there is no way to pull up past transactions per day or by a card number. Does the system not track every transaction? Is there really no way for cashiers to find past transactions?

Thanks

Edit: The item had the tags. I didn’t have the receipt. At other stores, I can typically return something using the card used for purchase and/or phone number if I no longer have the receipt.

I've been here for a year and a half and I hate it I HATE IT HERE!! You get next to no hours outside of the holiday season and now they're complaining about productivity when they keep making us do shit we can't physically get done!! I work BOH with unloading the truck pallets and processing clothes. We used to be able to get one level Z rack done in an hour, then they changed it to two racks on one Z rack and somehow they still want us to finish an entire rolling rack of clothes in one hour??? You literally doubled the workload!!! What the fuck! Always bitching about bins being full in the back room but you don't give us any fucking hours to get them done! My coworkers and supervisor are wonderful but fuck I hate this corporate bullshit, retail is truly another level of job hell!!!! DO NOT WORK HERE I AM BEGGING ANYBODY WHOS THINKING ABOUT APPLYING, DONT DO IT!!!

I got hired last week and did my first shift on Thursday. I wasn’t even supposed to start yet (my official start date was the beginning of May), but they needed extra people because of how much merchandise they had, so I said yes. They put me in the accessories section, and with basically no experience, I had to attach alarms to over 400 bags. It was a lot to keep up with, bags were falling off the table, and I had to grab a huge bin just to hold everything because of the volume. Even my co-worker said that it was a rough day for someone new to start. I also ended up staying an hour and a half past my shift to finish because of how many they were, and aside from a quick explanation at the beginning, I didn’t really get guidance for anything.

Today was my second shift, or my original first shift. I let the supervisor know I was new (she wasn’t the one there last time), and she said she’d help me understand things, but that never really happened. The same coworker from last time helped me for like 2 minutes, which I appreciated, but after that I was on my own again, which I understand, she has her own station to work on.

On top of working through a huge pile of bags again, I also had to put price stickers on caps, belts, socks, and other items, add tags when things didn’t have them, add alarms to other accessories, organize carts, break down boxes as I went, help other people get their boxes, and move a ton of accessories and self-care products to different carts. It just felt like I was juggling a lot at once and more, and more merchandise kept coming back to back.

What made it harder is that my station was packed in piles the whole time (keep in mind I'm a very fast paced person, I have experience in fast paced environments from previous jobs), and it felt like I was doing the workload of more than one person, while other stations (including other new hires) seemed a lot more manageable and way less loaded. At one point I finished a batch of caps and then got told I did them wrong, which was pretty discouraging since I was doing exactly what I saw in my orientation day.

I honestly got overwhelmed and ended up leaving early. I don’t mind working hard, but it felt like a lot to take on for a second day, and one person, especially without much guidance. I’ve never worked BOH before, so I feel like I could’ve used more support or at least a more gradual start. I feel that job is for two people working together, or a more knowledgably and older employee.

Right now I’m trying to see if I can switch positions, because between that, some rude behavior from coworkers/supervisor, and the workload, it’s been a rough start. I don’t want to quit since I need the money, but I’m definitely reconsidering if this is the right fit.

If you guys know other stores that hire fast, I would deeply appreciate the info.

What are the hours like?

so this is my first job and I’ve kinda read a lot on Reddit and other articles of what to expect. Have barely heard anything good lol, but I’m up for the challenge to see what happens, especially since I really need the money. But my only concern is the hours. I’ve heard a lot of people saying they get around 4 hours in one day and they only work that day for the week. It’s kinda concerning cus right now I’m trying to work consistently somewhere, but at least when I had my interview the lady had told me that most of the people working there get up to 20+ hours, and the people that usually get less is because they don’t have much of an open schedule. Another thing was that first timers usually get little hours, but the more you work the more hours you get, but I kinda already knew that. Since I have open availability the whole week (afternoon to the evening), what could my hours look like? I live in the Miami area if that helps with anything.

How do they get away with posting benefits that don't exist.

There is no PTO, sick time or paid holidays for part time associates.

Out sick for a week/SM changed Code to Office door?

So, I'm a CSS at my local Burlington and I've been out sick for a week, (I go back to work on this coming Tuesday) In our group chat I see that my SM has told everyone that she had to change the office(s) lock codes because I've been out of the business. Just wondering if this is there way of firing a people when they have been legitimately sick.

I came in to do my training videos and they asked me to stay till 2-230 and then had me stay till 3. Then when they put in the hours for that day, they put me on for 1-3 instead of 9-3. I was asked if I could work Sunday I said yes and they said okay keep an eye on your schedule. Never saw a schedule change so I assume that meant I wasn’t working Sunday. The last time I checked the schedule was around 5-6pm, saw nothing, and decided I’d clean the house in the morning. 930 the next morning while I’m cleaning I get a call saying ‘you know you’re scheduled today ?’ Um no. Cause I’m not on the schedule. So I stopped mid clean and came in. I check my app and suddenly a shift appeared for that day ???? Like when did that magically happen ?? They said it’s my responsibility to check my schedule… I know that. But your responsibility is to actually MAKE a schedule for me to follow so I can find child care for my kid. I said I was flexible so when you MAKE A SCHEDULE I can make arrangements for me and my child. I was asked if I could work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, said yes, but I’m not scheduled. They texted me this morning asking if I could come in. No. I said yes previously FOR YOU TO MAKE A SCHEDULE, SHOW ME IM SUPPOSED TO COME IN. MAKE A SCHEDULE. I’m just about to leave, I need a job in general the $10 isn’t an issue and I’m actually super great there, it’s just the scheduling and it’s on me to constantly check the app THAT CONSTANTLY LOGS YOU OUT EVEN IF U HIT REMEMBER. I haven’t even been there a full week this daily scheduling bs is bs. Your backroom huddles about finding people who will do my job, GOOD, find someone who will let yall schedule them just before they go to bed and scramble to get ready in the morning cause they just might have a shift at 8-9 am !

Calling Out Sick 2 Hours Before Shift Bad Look or Understandable?

I called out sick about 2 hours before my shift today because I’ve had an ongoing fever/cold for the last few days. My MOD was actually cool.

I rarely call out though — the last time was once back in December. So basically only twice months apart.

Do managers usually see that as understandable, or does calling out close to the shift still create a bad perception even if you’re genuinely sick?

Corporate getting stricter

Tell me why I am getting told to follow the scan and bad properly step by step and if I dont I'll get in trouble?? Not only that but they are watching the cameras too, i HAVE to take off hanger, scan and remove the alarms in that order instead of the more efficient way that makes me faster (which they expect us to move fast with the stupid timer) I dont get paid enough to do all that.

Sooo I applied to burlington and I’m sure if anyone saw my last post I had a weird interview too. So I applied for stocking. I get a email saying come in to see the process of the backroom. This shit is not…what I was expecting.

Pretty much at this store I came into nothing but chaos. I told the cashier I was there to see the truck process and she said “uhh it’s very chaotic in there right now so I’m so sorry!”. I go in the back and there’s people throwing stuff around the room and then a girl who looked wayyy to young to be there. I honestly feel bad for anyone who has to work there…the manager lied about some stuff just to keep me hanging as well.

I know there’s so many people on this reddit group who work at Burlington and say “don’t work here!!”…seriously do not. This is a waste of your time unless you wanna be a cashier. They want to start me out at $12 and work only two days. Plus they run the backroom like a military not gonna lie. Unless you’re looking to waste your time and get ripped off on labor and pay…don’t. I should’ve listened. Apparently I’m hired now and I am not coming back!!!

Hello all, I work BOH and I was told they were trying to check the cameras/footage to see a customer being rude to my coworker. Are they just referring to the camera footage and body language of the dude or actual audio?

transferring from one burlington to another

How do i go about doing that do i have to get my boss or managers involved or can i just apply at another store? I do wanna keep my paid sick time bc Ive accumulated quite a few hours. But long story short I’m beyond sick of how i’m treated by one of the managers I don’t wanna get into anything in case she sees this for some reason she’ll easily connect the dots. My boss has been on one lately too so I don’t even really wanna ask her about this. I do have a great relationship with all my other managers and coworkers it’s mainly just them 2 and its just gotten to the point where its bad for me mentally and Im constantly leaving there crying. But can my other managers even help me with that or do I have to go through my boss? Also this is my first like real job I really do enjoy it there it’s been about 8 months and I’ve applied to other jobs, gotten them, and then ghosted bc of how much I enjoy burlington (more so the ppl) but I just dk how to go about it someone help me that’s been through this. Please don’t just comment leave burlington it’s too familiar and I actually like working there. Sorry for this being super long and the rambling.

How long do you start after orientation?

It’s been a week since I had orientation. They said they’d be contacting me after that and I left. But now it’s been a week and I haven’t gotten any emails or text messages.

I tried to log into my workday but it wouldn’t let me so I’m not sure what’s going on.

I’m just considering applying for other jobs.
