Is 1h 45m enough for an Avianca connection in Bogota?

Hi everyone. I am looking at flights from Buenos Aires to New York with Avianca and the cheapest option has a connection in Bogota of 1 hour and 45 minutes.

My brother thinks that is too short and now I am worried because I read some comments saying that connections in Bogota can be stressful and difficult.

Has anyone here done a similar connection at El Dorado airport? Is 1 hour and 45 minutes usually enough if both flights are with Avianca on the same ticket?

Did you have to go through security again or immigration in Bogota before flying to the US?

I would really appreciate hearing your experiences because I am trying to decide if this is a bad idea or actually pretty normal. Thanks!

Flying Avianca to Argentina — how's the experience? (reliability, luggage, overall)

Planning a trip to Argentina and looking at Avianca as an option. Flying out of Toronto, so there'd likely be a connection through Bogotá.

A few things I'd love to hear from people who've flown them:

Reliability — how are they with on-time departures and arrivals? Any issues with delays or cancellations, especially through Bogotá?

Baggage — any problems with lost or delayed luggage on connecting flights? How strictly do they enforce carry-on limits?

Overall experience — seat comfort, food, crew, in-flight entertainment on long haul? Anything that surprised you good or bad?

Any tips or things to watch out for would be appreciated!

A Positive Avianca Review!

I was a bit nervous because I booked our tickets before I read the horrors of Avianca. I was traveling solo with my two toddlers (LAX -> GUA) and I could not have had a better experience.

  1. Airline put me in row 4 without me asking. This was just behind first class and great for getting on and off the plane with kids.

  2. Seats are slim but not that slim. I’m 5’9” and I was fine.

  3. There was beverage service! Granted it was only once and limited to just a couple options, that was fine by us.

  4. Snack service! They served sandwiches. not great but kept the kids happy. They told me this is a new offering, about a month or so. Free.

  5. Flight attendants went out of their way to help me with my kids. Let me use the first class bathroom, watched one while I went with the other. They were great! Same with the attendants at check-in.

  6. Plane was like new. No TVs but I expected that. Plane was modern and clean.

all in all, it was a great journey!

Change to flex then cancel?

This might be a very dumb question, but I’m looking to cancel or change an avianca for an upcoming trip. I bought classic fare (no cancellation allowed) and the change form allows for a shift to flex fare (cancellation allowed).

If I change my ticket to flex, am I allowed to then cancel and get a refund for that fare? Only the changed portion?

What is this happening?

Is it a sneeze, cough, respiratory infection, or something else? Please tell me.

Can I check a travel crib (pack and play)?

Does anyone know if I can check a pack and play with Avianca and what that entails? Does it count as a checked bag or does it count as a free baby item (like a stroller or car seat)? Do I check it at the checkin counter or at the gate? Appreciate any experiences you can share!

I’ve tried calling Avianca multiple times and I cannot get a person on the phone. It says they’ve sent me a WhatsApp message to continue the conversation, but then I receive no message from them. It’s so frustrating!!!
