Next academy invite?
Has anyone received an invite for July or know when those will be sent out?
Has anyone received an invite for July or know when those will be sent out?
I am 32 years old, and planning to apply next year and wanted to get honest feedback on my packet. I currently work at a large PD agency in CA as a CSO/Cadet, since 2021.
My challenges are these:
About $22k total credit card debt, with 6-7 late payments in 2025.
I had a semester long academic probation in community college in 2015, after that I got back into track and got my degree.
One speeding violation, 16mph over in a 40mph zone in 2016.
I really want to work at CHP since I love writing CHP 555 reports and traffic work at my current agency, but I am scared I will get DQ for the above reasons.
I had my interview today and was told they would disqualify me for drinking in high school(I’m 21 now) but they are still going to send my application through, can I still be picked up? They said everything else is perfect, I’m exactly what they are looking for, like what people said about my work ethic, I’m a great candidate, and that they loved my personality and attitude. Do I still have a chance? He said that’s the only concern otherwise I’m great. Thanks.
Hey everyone, looking for some insight from people who’ve been through the CHP hiring process or know how their background investigations work.
I’m currently in the middle of the hiring process for the California Highway Patrol and recently got pulled over and received a speeding ticket. This is my first ticket ever — completely clean record before this. No priors, no accidents, nothing.
I know background investigations are thorough and I plan to be fully transparent about it, but I’m genuinely worried this could hurt or even disqualify my chances. Has anyone dealt with something similar during the CHP hiring process? Did it affect your background investigation or conditional offer?
Any advice or personal experience is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Edit: I’m early in the process and haven’t gotten a BI assigned to me yet.
I’ve had my license for about 9 years now and throughout those years I’ve gotten 10 speeding tickets. The last one I got was last year in June so almost a year ago. None of them were for reckless driving etc just speeding, what are my chances of getting DQ’ed ? Does it all depend on my BI ?
I got a in person interview scheduled, what will they be asking me, and how do I prepare ? Thank you.
Hi everyone, I have a question and I’m hoping someone here can help or share some insight.
I was in the CHP Academy last year, Class CTC V-525. I stayed at the academy for about one month. I passed the S&P and the WSTB physical test, and I actually really enjoyed the academy environment and the physical training. I never had problems with physical effort, discipline, or workouts.
The main barrier for me was the English language, since it’s not my first language. At that time, I realized I was not as prepared as I should have been academically and with communication, so I decided to resign from the academy.
Since leaving, I’ve been consistently studying and improving the areas where I struggled the most, especially English, so that if I have another opportunity, I can return much more prepared for the academy experience.
My question is: what are the chances of being able to re-enter the academy in the future after resigning? Is there a process for reapplying? Has anyone here gone through something similar or have any advice on the best path forward?
I would really appreciate any guidance. Thank you.
Hi so I just want to get some insight before I start the process, I have my PAT/written test this coming weekend for Golden gate division. I have had a couple speeding tickets nothing to major they were like 5-10 mph over the limit, this was over 5 years ago when I was a teen I can’t remember (I’m 26 now). Reading thru the thread I think I should be good on that, I have a clean driving record now.
The thing I’m worried about is I have gotten pulled numerous times from 2021-2023 for my modified car. I had exhaust, window tints, windshield tint, front plate, and had received a state ref for emissions in 2023. So I had a bunch of fix it tickets for these. I was stupid back then I modded the hell out my car and didn’t care. I learned from it and looking back it was really stupid. I’m just worried all these tickets will affect the BI process since it was a 3-5 years ago. Any insight would be appreciated.
I Just turned 20 with 3 years left until I graduate with my degree, my question is do a majority of applicants go into the academy already having a degree? Should you start the process of applying with chp while in school? Have you guys been a full time student while in the actual academy?
Background. Two Speeding tickets one recent, other dismissed
I was late for a midterm* :/
Have medical scheduled next week and just have to wait on psych interview.
Currently contemplating a career change. Working typical 9-5 office corporate job. I somehow made it into management so the salary is decent but the lack of physical activity is killing me. Sitting at a desk usually 6-8 hours a day. An active career being out in the field is intriguing me. Also I'm Asian American if that makes a difference and would be the first in my family history to work in LEO. And I feel like my family will have a negative stigma on this when I tell them I'm interested in becoming a CHP officer.
I have always admired CHP. I ride motorcycles and respect the level of commitment CHP has made to ensuring rider safety in California. I do have a history of addiction though in my younger years like 18-23 but for the most part I have matured. Just weed right now but I know if I commit to the Academy I will have to quit.
I guess Road to 1000 worked well. Backgrounds is known to cut out ~80-90% of all applicants but this dude met high standards.
Has anyone received their examination results?
I applied to CHP last year and got through to the final interview where I was DQ’d for not disclosing a traffic violation (which I had paid off and resolved at the time) early enough in the interview process. They told me I could reapply once I received my DQ letter, and that next time to just disclose earlier. It’s been over 6 months now and still no letter. Should I take this as a rejection and move on or keep waiting/ following up?
It’s been a year and three months since he told me to wait because I had been fired from my previous job six months before that for something insignificant. He advised me to wait at least a year before reapplying. It’s been a year and three months, but I haven’t received the letter in the mail to be able to do so.
Is there anything I can do, I have military/law enforcement background clean record besides that I was let go from a position not the agency.
By the title suggests, I was wondering what the average age range and even if it’s possible for someone so young to be hired? I’m specifically talking about people who are 21-23 who are officially sworn in.
Still haven’t received my scores but excited feeling real good about it! Anyone else?
