Honestly, go to a Rice hockey game

I dragged myself to the Rice hockey game last Friday not expecting much, and I had a blast. The team's not amazing or anything, but the crowd was into it, people were yelling funny stuff, and you can stand right up against the glass. Just a good, weird, loud time. They play at home again this Thursday against Baylor. Tickets are cheap, they sell beer, and it beats sitting on your phone. Bring a friend or just go-you'll have fun, I swear.

Quick CPBL chat: Who's your 2026 champ pick?

CPBL is straight fire this season. No DH, pitchers battling forever, games like last night's Monkeys-Lions 3-2 marathon in 11 innings. Feels like real baseball. Monkeys leading North by 2 games today—Lions hanging tough in South. Who ya got for the title? Best small-ball play you've seen?

I miss real handball already

Olympics got me so hyped and now club season is just... kinda there. Everyone looks tired, stars are resting, and my team's out here playing like it's a preseason friendly. I get it, but c'mon.

At least Kiel vs Barca this weekend might be fun. Please just give me one good game before I totally check out. Anyone else feelin this slump or is it just me?

I only remember speed skating exists every four years. And that kind of sucks.

Every Winter Olympics, I'm glued to the screen. The falls, the photo finishes, the way someone comes out of nowhere on the last turn-it's genuinely exciting. Then the Games end, and I completely forget about the sport again. No highlights in my feed, no idea when the next race is, nothing.

It's not that I don't care. It's just… there's nothing there to hold onto between Olympics. Feels like the sport only exists for two weeks, and then it vanishes. Wish that wasn't true.

Went to an indie show last night. A 62-year-old guy stole the whole night.

Young guys did flips. Nobody cared. Then an old luchador walked out in a faded mask, holding his back. No music. Just him.

He did an armdrag, a headlock, and a weak suplex. Crowd lost it. Kids screamed. Adults cried.

After the show, he sold photos off a folding table. I bought one. He said "gracias, mijo." I almost cried too.

You don't need flips. You just need people to remember you.

Our keeper moved away. No one else wanted the gloves, so I raised my hand. Big mistake.

First game back, I let in seven. Not even nice goals-a nutmeg, one that slipped through my fingers, another I just watched like a fan. My captain didn't yell. He just looked at me and said, "Dude… just stay big." I nodded like I knew what that meant.

I called my girlfriend after and told her I was quitting. She laughed and said, "You said the same thing when you tried to learn guitar." She's right. I'm gonna show up next week and probably get scored on again. But hey, someone's gotta do it.

Anyone else ever switch positions and feel like a rookie all over again? Tell me I'm not alone.

After 2 years of training, I finally debuted last night. Total mess.

I was so nervous I forgot my mask at home. Had to borrow one from a guy who's been wrestling since the 90s-it smelled like cigarette smoke and defeat. Tripped on the ropes walking out. Tried a dive and face-planted the rail. Bit through my lip. Blood everywhere. Almost crashed into some kid in the front row. The veteran I was working with basically wrestled for both of us. I lost by roll-up. After the match, he just hugged me and said, "Welcome to the circus, kid." I was bleeding, embarrassed, and so happy I almost cried. A little girl asked for my photo anyway. That's when I knew I'd be back next week.

That little ache in your arm? Yeah, I ignored mine too.

I'm currently on my couch with an ice pack on my shoulder, watching my team play without me. All because I felt a little twinge during warm-ups two weeks ago and thought, "It's fine. It'll loosen up."

It wasn't fine. Now I'm out for a month with a rotator cuff strain. Please don't be like me. If your arm feels weird, take a game off. Ice it. Do the boring band exercises. That "nothing" ache is your body saying something. Listen to it before you're sidelined like I am.

Anyone else been here?

Just binged the latest Korakuen show on NJPW World this morning (stayed up stupid late). ZSJ/Desperado was some next-level chop fest, and Tana yeeting that dropkick had me yelling at my screen lol. Who's sneaking into the G1 this year? Hit me with your hot takes.

Conference tournaments have been so good this week. That Georgia-LSU game in the SEC? Insane. And even Day 1 of the Big Ten had some chaos.

I keep thinking Oklahoma takes the whole thing, but I don't know-should I be watching out for Nebraska or Alabama instead? What do you all think?

Golden Tempo skipping the Preakness

Man, no Triple Crown this year. Golden Tempo's out of the Preakness, heading straight to Belmont. Totally get why-that Derby grind looked brutal on her. Still stings though, you know? May 16 feels like anyone's game now. Crude Velocity sitting pretty at 3-1 or 4-1, but I'm eyeing Taj Mahal at 20-1. Dude's straight fire, undefeated at Laurel. Who's your pick, fam?

Wait, did anyone else just see what UC Irvine did?

So I was just scrolling through portal updates and apparently UC Irvine landed Olivier Rioux-yes, the 7-foot-9 guy from Florida. He barely played there, but come on. In the Big West? Just having him stand in the paint is going to make everyone think twice. Kind of funny actually-Irvine had a 7-foot-6 guy years ago (Mamadou Ndiaye), so this feels like they're doing a throwback. On the tougher side, Cal Poly's losing Hamad Mousa. That one hurts. He was First-Team All-Big West, dropped 20 a night, and now Michigan's calling. Also saw Irvine lost Jurian Dixon to Virginia, so that Rioux pickup makes more sense now. Anyone else tracking this league, or are we all just waiting for the portal chaos to end?

Been clicking around the portal today and figured I'd share what I'm seeing. UConn finally got that top-50 wing everyone's been speculating about-thank goodness, right? Feels like that one dragged on forever. He should fit right into their rotation.Villanova and Creighton are still out there looking for bigs, nothing done yet but they're in the mix. Providence grabbed a shooter who probably won't make headlines but feels like one of those under-the-radar moves you appreciate more in February. And then there's Seton Hall, which just stings a little-they're losing their starting guard to the draft. Late in the spring like this, that's a tough pill to swallow. Full list is over on ESPN if you want to see everything at once.So what do you all think-any surprises still coming down the pipe,or is the portal pretty much settled at this point?

Okay so I just watched the replay of Game 3 at Mega Ice 5's and holy crazy-Rice Rockets won 3-2 in the wildest final frame I've seen in a minute. Clutch goals everywhere and the crowd was losing it. Anyone actually there? Drop some pics if you got 'em.

Also, Ducks vs Knights Game 2 was yesterday and yeah, I'm still recovering. Club hockey just hits different when the NHL playoffs are this nuts. What's everyone else's local league up to? Brag about your rec team. I'll wait. 🏒

Watched them sweep the Lions this weekend and now I'm fully convinced Lin Tzu-hao is playing a different sport. Three homers in three games is ridiculous. Pitching's somehow locked in too. I know it's early, but man... this feels different. But yeah, I've been hurt before. Guardians and Brothers are still lurking. So tell me straight-am I overreacting or are we looking at a real playoff team? Next series vs. Brothers on CPBL TV. Who's watching?

Man, qualifiers for the 2027 Men's Worlds are already getting intense-Europe's in Phase 3, and the Beach Handball Worlds draw just dropped (Iran got grouped). Starting May 11, teams are hitting camps and scrimmages everywhere, so we could be in for some real chaos. Denmark's men are chasing a three-peat after 2023 and 2025, and Norway's women have been absolutely dominant too. This May is shaping up to be total handball madness. So who's your sleeper team for an upset? Which squad are you eyeing? Drop your dream lineups or hot takes below-I'm genuinely curious. And yeah, live stuff on IHF or Sofascore as always. Let's go!

Nothing beats watching Little League under the floodlights. My kid's team was out there tonight just scrapping-kids diving for grounders, bats cracking, and this one 10-year-old struck out three in a row, then turned around and gave his catcher the biggest bear hug I've ever seen. Parents were yelling, hearts were pounding. It's just raw, good stuff. Grit, teamwork, and big dreams, one dusty inning at a time. What's your favorite Little League memory? I'm still smiling from tonight. These kids turn into little legends right in front of you.

The human side of speed skating-retirements, late medals, and life after the ice

We talk a lot about times and tech, but right now some of the best stories in skating are the human ones. Ted-Jan Bloemen, Martina Sáblíková, and Miho Takagi all stepped away recently-not quietly, but with real feeling. Injuries, comebacks, family. Their retirements felt like closing a chapter, not just ending a stat sheet. Meanwhile, Valérie Maltais won her first Olympic medal at 35, and Francesca Lollobrigida set an Olympic record on her 35th birthday. That’s not luck. That’s just refusing to quit. Off the ice, the sport’s finally talking about what comes next. Gerard van Velde wrapped 34 years as a coach, with Femke Kok’s gold as a beautiful send-off. And Jutta Leerdam? She’s been open about happiness, mental load, and life after skating. It’s a good reminder: these aren't machines on blades. They're people figuring out why they still lace up. What do you think-are we paying enough attention to the human side of the sport?
