Looking to upgrade my inline setup. SR or Pinnacle?

I’m taking my skating more seriously and looking for an upgrade to my bont eclipse boots. Been looking at the Simmons Fly and The Pinnacle Nexus. The eclipse fit well, but looking for a more performance fit with a lower ankle cuff and don’t want the full custom experience yet. I skate primarily indoor, but training up for my first marathon this fall. My foot is pretty standard width, nothing crazy.

What do y’all think?

Bont Inline - starter pack opinions

Good morning - I was a quad speed skater for a decade when I was young (race is probably 1990) - having just digitized a a few home movies I have an itch to get back out there - not to full on race but to exercise - cross train - maybe do a skate marathon- - at 50 what set up is recommended? Bont has a sale going on Amazon Jet, GT4, Luna

Are any of these decent starter packs? Looks like Jet is the move just wanted some opinions

$399 Jet boot, 6061 T6, Abec5, 110 elementals
$269 GT4 boot 6061 T6, Abec5, 110 elementals
$299 Luna boot 2PF 6061 Frame + Elemental Wheels + ABEC7 Bearings

How tight should frame be bolted on carbon boots?

I'm using T-handle allen wrench without leverage multiplier. Can I tighten the frame mounts bolt with all the strength in my arms like I do with my hard boot urban skate?

The boot is carbon fiber and frame is 6061 aluminum. The carbon fiber part of the boot mount gets between the aluminum frame and the metal threads embedded in the boot mount. I'm worried that carbon fiber could crack or weaken if the bolt is tightened too much.

My urban boot also has plastic between the aluminum frame and the metal thread buried in the boot mount. I tighten the bolt with all the strength in my arms but the plastic part of the mount squeezed is totally unaffected by the pressure.

Does the carbon shell of the boot even crack or made of flexible plastic base instead of brittle epoxy? Thanks

Bont Jet - follow up post - I asked about starter kit for inlines….

Hey - thanks for all the comments in helping me find a pair - it’s been 35 years or so since I put on a racing skates so I’m excited to see where this goes.
I picked up Bont Jet - 6061~T6 frame with Elementals - I picked up the eZeefit ankle piece which are great and I’m waiting for my helmet to arrive - I’ve taken them out a couple times but I’m going to give it time b4 I do anything aggressive- I’m old and don’t want to blow something out 😂

I thought I was doing the doublepush right. My speeds are ok. As can be expected with my cheap, non-speed equipment and loose clothing. Easy cruising pace at 25 kph and hitting nearly 40 kph on intervals. Ironically, I'm already one of the two fastest skaters in our recreational group.

But I keep hearing a voice in my head my technique is wrong 😂 (I should probably see a shrink!). I'm weaving left and right each stride and looked like a double push to the untrained eye. But something felt wrong.

After watching some videos and forcing the technique in my next sessions, incredibly, the technique "clicked" with me at the 6th kilometer of the 2nd session. Broke my Strava PR on that same session.

The technique is hard to figure out! But very stable and most importantly very efficient when you do. And I realize now I may be the only skater in our whole city that can double push!

Looking for speed and distance, what do you recommend? Are the carbons going to be worth it?

Setup:

Bont BNT (195mm mount), currently on Bont 2PF 13.2" 4x110 with Red Magic X-Firm 110s

5'6, 140 pounds

was thinking Swings MG 13.0 but don't know enough, help!!

The human side of speed skating-retirements, late medals, and life after the ice

We talk a lot about times and tech, but right now some of the best stories in skating are the human ones. Ted-Jan Bloemen, Martina Sáblíková, and Miho Takagi all stepped away recently-not quietly, but with real feeling. Injuries, comebacks, family. Their retirements felt like closing a chapter, not just ending a stat sheet. Meanwhile, Valérie Maltais won her first Olympic medal at 35, and Francesca Lollobrigida set an Olympic record on her 35th birthday. That’s not luck. That’s just refusing to quit. Off the ice, the sport’s finally talking about what comes next. Gerard van Velde wrapped 34 years as a coach, with Femke Kok’s gold as a beautiful send-off. And Jutta Leerdam? She’s been open about happiness, mental load, and life after skating. It’s a good reminder: these aren't machines on blades. They're people figuring out why they still lace up. What do you think-are we paying enough attention to the human side of the sport?

Hello, I recently received my new pair of skates and it’s first time on lower cut advanced boot.

Should I lace the tongue part I thought it was hard enough getting my foot in my pushing tongue forward if it was stuck under the top might be impossible.

How well should they fit right now without molding I can wiggle my first few toes.

Comparing the wheel spin to my 15 year old pair is crazy they just go and go even a light spin!

Should I heat mold them I haven’t yet I did get an oven thermometer like they recommend.

Skated a bit forwards and backwards in my house ironically seemed easier then forwards. But my ankles/knee will take some getting use it it again.

I am an international student living in Worcester MA
I have been a professional skater for 5 years, now it’s been 3 years since I lost practice. I’m looking for a place where I can start practicing again. I don’t have equipment’s yet tho as it’s back in my home country. Any leads would be much appreciated as it’s my passion and I do not want to loose it.

De Boo dethroned Stolz for the world sprint title on home ice. What does this mean for the next Olympic cycle?

Jenning de Boo captured his first world sprint title in Heerenveen, finishing 0.830 points ahead of Jordan Stolz, the American Olympic champion. De Boo set a record-breaking combination score while Stolz won the final 1,000m. This feels significant—Stolz has been nearly untouchable, and seeing someone beat him in a major championship opens up the entire conversation for the next Olympic cycle. Is this a sign that Stolz's grip on the sprint events is loosening, or was this just De Boo peaking perfectly on home ice?

Is it normal for 82a wheels to feel like they are understeering in a turn

I have 84mm wheels and was skating in a rink with what looks and feels like laminated "wood" or real wood that feels nothing like normal hardwood floors. I am not yet able to do crossovers so i was just coasting through the turns but it felt like the outside skate was losing grip causing me to turn wider than i wanted.

Most of my weight was on the outside skate

Also earlier it felt like the back 2 wheels were skipping during tighter turns.

Is this normal or because the wheels are cheap

Hi, I am new to speed skating and I am looking to get my first set of boots + blades. I am currently skating with BONT boots that are maybe for the 90s lol. My coach recommended CBC boots specifically, but I saw that BONT had blades on clearance for 100$. Are the mounts standard size like will the boots match the blades? Also I am looking at getting 16in blades I am 5ft and doing short track skating. My coaches have had mixed opinions on what I should be getting.

Hi all, not selling here, but a question about selling. I'm a former speedskater who still has his Viking boots and klap blades, plus a sharpening jig and other accessories. Speedskating is so niche even in communities with ovals that it's impossible to sell gear locally. Where can one post this and actually tap this small but defined market?
