dua request (if a person who will be going to hajj this year can make for me)

Assalamu'alaikum, I am working hard for a medicine seat so Insha'Allah I can help people who are sick or in need of care one day. I am requesting someone please make dua for me when performing hajj that I can finish with high grades to achieve this medicine seat by next year. I will be greatly thankful if a fellow sister or brother can, jazak'Allah in advance.

In response to Surgeon's Son is EXTREMELY Talented as a Researcher

I think the case highlighted on that post is very very common and it is very unfortunate because it makes an already unfair process even more unfair. But I have also heard of researchers or professors or scientists who have done work in other countries and what do you know, their children show up as an author in the paper! If you have done research before (without working under a family member or parent) you may know how difficult it could be to even secure an authorship on a paper or you may be out of the lab by the time a paper can be published. Or the difficulty with finding a lab position and/or getting an interview/offer!

Unfortunately this will continue to exist and it will just make the med school process much more unfair for those who don't come from priveleged backgrounds.

But for those who did not grow up with the privilege of having a physician parent or having parents who are researchers/professors/scientists to help you be more competitive for applications, be proud of yourself. You came this far (regardless of what stage you are in this super competitve process). You have done it all by yourself.

almost done undergrad and I had one semester where I was part-time (in the fall). I took only one course as I was pretty sick (more like a chronic severe female pain issue and my anxiety disorder was up the sky). Professors didn't accomodate me properly and my accessibility advisor was let's say someone who was like sorry mental health doesnt matter much to us. My doctor even found it absurd lol the way my advisor was acting. Started to feel better in January (after proper treatment) and have took 5 courses and finished everything with a 4.0.

Is it over for me? The reason I went part-time that semester is because TMU, Mac and Queens accept grades from part-time semesters. I also meet the UofT 3.0 FCE requirement and can probably write an AEE. The rest of my undergrad was full-time.

I have been seeing posts of people shocked by what the OSAP estimator is showing in terms of grants and loans etc. I strongly advise you to use TikTok and Instagram and whatever social media platform you can think about to share these horrendous estimates and show what other students will face if we don't have a change.

Do we not care anymore? Clearly these past few protests have not been working and we need more people to come out to these events and speak up. Can't let bro be buying private jets while we stay uneducated. Not all of us came from a privileged background to be able to go around and live the life. For some of us because of our background: NO EDUCATION= NO BETTER FUTURE. These OSAP cuts are essentially a form of DISCRIMINATION to marginalised communities because many students from these backgrounds rely on it to be able to go to school and have a proper education.

OSAP cuts means issues with long-term problems persist like a lack of primary care physicians and nurses. OSAP cuts mean food insecurity among students. OSAP cuts means more mental health challenges across students from stress and anxiety of balancing finances.

I acknowledge that OSAP has been used fraudulently by people. I have seen videos on TikTok of unneccesary purchases etc and even heard some stories and rumors there. But that percentage is SMALL. Just become some people make some stupid decisions, our premier is going to punish all of us? Go ahead punish the people who buy designer stuff with money that supports our education BUT SERIOUSLY DON'T PUNISH ALL OF US.

Ford doesn't have any empathy or he hasn't been in the shoes of a student who has to deal with family struggles. I watched my own folks quietly calculate and stress about how much they have for the month throughout high school and longer. That just motivated me to spend less and make sure I study my ASS OFF in post-secondary so I can one day support my parents and have a better future. Since first year I have not been to a single party, I watched my peers from middle-class families go to clubs, parties, and fancy restaurants. NOT ME, NEVER. I stayed home to study my ass off and I was able to do this comfortably with the OSAP money I received. The OSAP money didn't cover all of my tuition but that is where internships or merit scholarships helped to cover the remaining cost. Now with cuts to OSAP funding and the poor job market, how will I cover the rest? I see my parents struggling already. I know I'm not the only one.
