Replacement for 2019 Trek FX1?

I have a Trek FX1 that I bought in 2019 and it’s the right sort of ride for my use, but it’s got some maintenance needs that will cost more than they’re worth and I also decided I’d like something with disc brakes. I’m basically looking for a slightly upgraded version of what I already have. I’m a fair-weather commuter in NYC with a roughly 15-mile daily ride over some pretty poorly kept urban roads and bridges. Not a speed demon, but I like to be able to accelerate when I feel like it.

My first instinct was to get another FX model, but it looks like Trek has altered the frame design to have a more sloped top tube, which I don’t love. The Cannondale Quick 2 looks promising. Any other ideas/suggestions?

Newer vs. Older Kona Dew

Hi folks, I'm currently commuting with a 2009 kona dew and am wondering if buying a recent Dew with a 1x drivetrain and hydraulic brakes would make a substantial difference to the ride quality/speed?

Plus sized looking for a bike to ride to and from work

Honestly, I am feeling overwhelmed trying to find a bike that would fit my needs. I am roughly 385lbs and 5'11" and just want a bike to ride to and from my job, which is only a mile commute; it is a bit hilly if that is important information. I don't want an e-bike, just a regular bike that would be reliable and comfortable for my size. I really dont want to spend any more than $500 but would be willing to go up to max $750 if it would make a big difference.

Good deal on Bianco Brava?

Want to buy my first road bike. My budget is pretty slim as I am a student. This caught my eye and is selling for $250 but willing to negotiate. Is this an okay deal? Also includes a set of spare tires.

Does anyone have any info on it? It rode and shifted well when I tested it!

Is this a good deal? Giant TCR Adv 1+ PC (2022) for $2300

Hey everyone, I found a Giant TCR Advanced Disc 1+ PC 2022 on Marketplace for $2300 and wanted to ask if this is actually a good deal, I’m not very experienced with road bike pricing, but it’s a carbon frame with Shimano Ultegra, disc brakes, and carbon wheels, and it looks to be in decent condition from the photos; does this price sound fair or should I try to negotiate?

Looking for first fixie bike

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this community. I wanted to get into this hobby by buying the tsunami snm100 complete bike. I eventually want to upgrade my bike to carbon wheels. I was curious and took a look on my local marketplace to see if there was anything similar and I found these three listings. If anyone has any insight on buying advice please let me know. I also live in an area with some hills so how practical would a fixed bike be? Thanks!

Any recommendations for a commuter bike for a college student? I've no idea where to start!

I see on here that many people in my situation are told to go for cheap bikes due to thieves on college campuses. I'm unsure about my school's reputation in this regard, I've heard it's pretty safe, but just in case, I would like to follow suit, but the issue is my commute is around 6 miles both ways which is 12 miles a day, does this make it worth going for something more expensive? Is 12 miles considered far? I would still like to spend less than $300.

What do you think of buying this bike for light touring?

So I've been riding bicycles a lot for commuting, but never for touring. Now I want to go on multi-day trips and thinking of getting a bicycle. I found one that seems to match what I like, but I'm quite unsure and want advice. The bike I'm thinking of is the Miyata CRUISE i 6180, here's the link to the manufacturer: https://www.miyatabike.com/miyata/lineup/cruise/cruise_i_6180.html

There are a few things that make it complicated:

  • I live in Tokyo
  • I will need to detach at least front wheel (and maybe also back wheel) to carry the bicycle in a bag(!) in train/bus to get to my destination
  • I will eventually want to carry my (light) camping gear
  • I decided to go for battery support because I also want to ride in the mountains and I have some health issues that will otherwise make it hard for me

That means I need a lightweight bike (to carry it with my hands in a bag) but also want battery and equip my camping gear. Optimally I'd also prefer a belt or hub drive rather than chain drive, but I've given up on this requirement.

On the good hand: I'm not looking for fastest speeds or best performance, I want to cycle relaxed.

What do you think of that bike choice? There is another version that has drop bars instead of flat ones, but not sure if I want that - I prefer a more relaxed/upright position and flat bars will make it easier to also use it in the city for regular stuff (that's a nice plus). I wish they had an option to get a carbon fork, but seems they don't offer that...

I need a bike for getting around in college. Does this seem good?

I’m going away to college in a few months and am thinking of getting a bike for getting to places. I just want some suggestions. I unfortunately don’t know a lot about bikes, but I found a bike off FB marketplace for $80. It’s a Huffy. Here’s the description:

Sweet mid sized huffy with an awesome colorway, completely serviced and ready to be your new bike. Perfect for casual cruising around town and on the bike trail. You’ll rarely find one in such great condition, let alone in this state of tune. Everything functions as intended or better. I would surmise that one should be around 5’ to 5’6” to truly enjoy this bike. Great for beginners and children alike, possibly young adults.

All pics of the bike are on this. If I could get any advice, that’d be great.

Trek Madone vs Specialized Dolce, for weekday commute + weekend fitness

I'm looking at two used listings. They are the 2012 Trek Madone 4.5 Compact ($450), and the 2011 Specialized Dolce Triple ($200) (pictures, link to specs included below).

My use cases are as follows:

  • Weekdays: I'm a university student, and I largely commute by bike to and from class.
  • Weekends: I enjoy cycling for fitness; and with this new bike, would like to join my university's cycling club to take things up a notch (I had a step-thru bike before this)

Here are my current thoughts on the two listings:

  • Both seem pretty fairly priced.
  • The Madone has a carbon fiber frame. The Dolce an aluminum one. I have heard stories of carbon fiber frames potentially hiding structural cracks, but being relatively new to bikes, I'm unaware how serious of a problem this actually is.
    • I generally take care of my bikes fairly well, but alas I am a student, and will be locking and unlocking against bike racks a lot.
  • I think the Madone is a better choice in quality for more serious weekend rides.
  • I think the Dolce is a better choice in price for my majority-commute weekdays.

Any and all thoughts appreciated!

Steel bike under 1000 euros

Hello everyone,

could you help me find a bike with a steel frame for under 1000 euros? I’m open to pretty much anything — MTB (any category), trekking, gravel, or similar.

I’m 195 cm tall, so I’ll need a frame size XL or larger.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Does this bike look legit meaning is the price too low at $400. I've been noticing on FBM duplicate listings at different prices. Is this a glitch, a selling tactic to make the lower price look lower, or is this a red flag? I've been seeing this double posting with other sellers too. I looked up the seller there are no reviews visible and he has a bunch of washer dryers for sale. Feels like a red flag despite wanting the bike. I also find it annoying there is only one picture no close ups, either lazy seller or could be hiding the condition. Hard to tell.

Can someone tell me the year? Looks like 2008 ish although hard to pin down. Not that it matters as long as the carbon has no cracks. I'm just looking for an inexpensive road bike to supplement my hybrid, since I'm doing more road riding.

Finally it's listed as 56cm, I'm 5'9" and currently have a 54cm. I do like riding more up right and would likely add a stem to raise the bars not sure if 2cm is going to make much of a difference to a recreational rider.

2025 Merida Reactor 8000 Vs 2026 Trek Madone SL6 Gen 8

Hi all,

I am at a crossroads.

I have an option to buy a 2026 Trek Madone SL6 Gen 8 from my local bike show. price 4799 euro, I was set to pull the trigger but I happened to be with a friend in a bike shop in the next town over and tested a 2025 Merida Reactor 8000 and also loved it. it's priced at 4,999 euro.

Madone is 105Di2, Reacto is Ultegra Di2.

Can anyone share some thoughts of views to help me decide please.

Thanks in advance!

Cannondale R4000 CAAD4 or Giant OCR1

I currently have a very oversized Miyata 210. Looking to get a used Road bike from Marketplace and these are the options. Both are $200 and are the perfect frame size for me. I want it for 1-2 long rides a week.

1-Cannondale R4000 CAAD4 with campagnolo veloce
2- Giant OCR1 with Shimano 105
