I see on here that many people in my situation are told to go for cheap bikes due to thieves on college campuses. I'm unsure about my school's reputation in this regard, I've heard it's pretty safe, but just in case, I would like to follow suit, but the issue is my commute is around 6 miles both ways which is 12 miles a day, does this make it worth going for something more expensive? Is 12 miles considered far? I would still like to spend less than $300.
