Ants got inside my Lenovo laptop, now it won’t turn on. Need help urgently

Guys please help. For many days ants were getting inside my laptop. Yesterday I shut it down properly and kept it aside because I was scared they might cause some issue internally. Laptop was working completely fine at that time.

Today when I tried turning it on, it suddenly powered on by itself once and then shut down. Now it’s completely dead and not opening at all. I’m also getting a slight burnt/electrical smell sometimes.

I have Lenovo Accidental Damage Protection/Warranty. Does something like insect damage or short circuit usually get covered? Has anyone faced this before?

What should I do right now?

Should I avoid charging/turning it on again?

Can service center repair this properly?

Any chance motherboard got shorted because of ants?

Really stressed because I have exams too. Any guidance would help

Is there a consistent way to grab and drag a window around? MS stopped using title bars, and I don't know the proper replacement, often guessing wrong.

Since title bars on windows fell out of use (for unknown reasons), I've yet to find a consistent way to grab and move windows around. Each app uses a different spot, and if you grab the wrong spot, you can mis-click a feature. Maybe I'm going about dragging entirely wrong? I miss title bars; can they forced back on via registry setting or something? Thank You.

Is 50mbps enough for family of four?

My family is planing to buy 50mbps internet. Me and my brother are the only one who watch movies and play games, we only have one laptop and my parents only used phones during night or breaktime.

Is 50 mbps enough on our situation? (PS, this is first time we're going to have internet since we can't afford it years ago)

Random system freezes. Screen + audio stuck, only hard reboot fixes it (i7-14700K + ASUS ROG Strix DDR5 build)

Hi everyone,

I’m posting here because I’ve been struggling with a very frustrating and hard-to-diagnose issue on my new PC, and I really need help from people with more experience.

My system does not always crash with a Blue Screen of Death. Instead, it completely freezes randomly:

  • Screen freezes completely (image stuck)
  • Audio freezes or loops
  • Mouse and keyboard stop responding
  • No error screen appears
  • The only way to recover is a manual hard reboot (power button)

System specifications:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-14700K
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B760-A Gaming WiFi DDR5
  • Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 64GB (2 x 32GB) 6000MHz CL40
  • Graphics card: MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X 12GB
  • CPU cooler: Corsair iCUE Link Titan 240 RX RGB liquid cooler
  • Power supply: Corsair RM1000x Shift Gold Fully Modular
  • Storage: WD_BLACK SN7100 1TB NVMe SSD + WD Blue 500GB SSD + Western Digital Caviar Blue 4TB HDD
  • Case: Corsair 5000D Frame RS ARGB

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Updated BIOS to latest version available
  • Clean installation of Windows 11
  • Clean GPU driver installation using DDU
  • Monitored temperatures (CPU and GPU are completely normal)
  • Tested RAM with XMP enabled (6000MHz) and also at default JEDEC settings
  • Ran stress tests and basic stability checks
  • Checked Event Viewer (sometimes shows crashes related to ntoskrnl.exe, but no clear root cause)

Has anyone experienced something similar with Intel 14th Gen CPUs and DDR5 on ASUS ROG Strix motherboards?

Could this be related to:

  • RAM instability (64GB DDR5 6000MHz)?
  • CPU voltage / BIOS settings?
  • Load-line calibration or power limits?
  • Memory controller instability?

I’m honestly running out of ideas, so any real help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

How do I get data off a broken iPhone that wasn’t backed up to ICloud?

Hello, my partner dropped their phone just now and the screen is completely unresponsive. The side buttons work and they are able to turn on Siri but we tried doing the thing with voiceover on and we can’t unlock the phone that way. The charging port is also broken on the phone and my partner has been using a wireless charger for it for a long time now. I’m wondering if there’s any way we can get all the data off of it because a lot of their really important information is on there. I wanted to ask here because we can’t take it to the store tonight.

My laptop is incredibly slow on home wifi, but fast with mobile hotspot and ethernet

Additionally other devices are fast with home wifi, it's just this one device (laptop) that's not fast

The wifi driver is up to date, evrything is fine, this speed issue has been the same since I bought this.

I been managing it with my phone with usb tethering.

Even when using hotspot the speed isn't nearly at it's peak.

And EVEN in usb tethering way the speed isn't reaching the absolute peak, there's always a trade off

Here's how it looks with numbers

Straight off my router itself is very slow , it's 2.4 ghz, but it does it's job, and my lap or phone isn't high end so it doesn't bother me, what bothers me is how much speed difference there is between my 3 year old mobile and the fairly modern laptop

Numbers ;

Peak speed with my phone 11 MB/s

With mobile hotspot to laptop : 3 MB/s

With usb tethering/ethernet : 7 MB/s

With straight connection to home wifi/router : under 500 KB/s (sometimes even it just refuse to load anything)

At first when I bought the lap i thought it's an issue with router, since it's fairly old and has issues often

But it's not.

And it's windows 11

Dropped Hard Drive

I know I am supposed to have a back up, but hadn't expected this to happen in literally the first month of me owning this, I was also occupied with finals*

I had accidentally knocked off a Seagate 5 TB external hard drive off of my desk, my body partially broke the impact and it hit the floor on the corner (it has a plastic body). It wasn't running when this happened. It was roughly a 2.2 feet drop (it dropped the remaining 1 feet after hitting up against my leg).

When I turned it on, no weird sounds or vibrations. When I delicately tilted the hard drive, I heard no loose moving parts. When I ran a S.M.A.R.T scan, everything returned in perfect conditions. My PC still recognizes the hard drive and files on the hard drive can run.

Should I be worried about the health of my hard drive?

PC programs won’t recognize wifi connection

I’ve been having this problem for a few days now but didn’t realize how serious it was until today.

None of the programs on my PC will recognize the strong wifi it has. Not Steam, not Microsoft Edge, nothing. However, I got Edge to claim once that it was being blocked by the fire wall. Searching about this suggested that an antivirus may be to blame.

The problem is, I can’t even search for anything as the search bar on the bottom kicks me out every time, and if I try to search by clicking the window’s icon, it too will then error out.

The closest culprit I can find is Norton 360 for gamers expired about a week or so ago, and when I look at the icon, it’s only a white page. It’s practically pretending to be uninstalled, but then if I right click on a file and click ‘show more options’, and option for Norton 360 for gamers pops up, but hovering over it only says subscription expired: subscribe. Clicking it results in absolutely nothing.

I’m at a lost because I can’t get into Norton, I can’t get into Windows Defender (only Windows Security and ‘Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security’ which apparently isn’t the Windows Defender program I’m supposed to get into) and I can’t bring up Command Prompt for other solutions offered that way.

What’s driving me more crazy is I don’t know how this could have happened. It was working fine the day it went crazy, then I unplugged it from the usual monitor and plugged it into my TV. That’s it. This problem started right after that. (I unplugged an HDMI cord from the Motherboard (guess I panicked plugged that in at start) and didn’t plug it back in for the switch, but I mean, that’s not supposed to be required for casual PC usage anyways, right?)

Does anyone have any idea of something I could do? Or do I need to factory reset my whole PC? (wouldn’t be devastating past needing to reinstall my games. I’ve only had this a few months and have had a lapse of chronic illness throughout, so no important files have been made yet)

Flash Drive Corrupted (NSFW)

Hey guys. So I’ll be honest, I have a flash drive with a lot of spank bank material on it. I guess it’s recently become corrupted and I’m not sure how to go about fixing it (if it is even fixable). The drive is recognized, and some pictures and videos are fine, but others either won’t load, half the picture will show with the rest grayed out, or more than half is blocked. Is there anything I can do? I’ve tried moving them over to another FD but the same error occurs.

Thanks.

Dropped Apple dual charger adapter brick into toilet

I dropped my Apple dual charging adapter brick into the toilet and right after it went in I directly yanked it out. however, I was wondering, am I still able to use this or not? I left it out to dry for a night. The cost of an adapter is high even for cheap options

Computer Freezing

My computer has been freezing. I don't know what's causing it, but it doesn't do it while I'm playing games. It will freeze anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute. It isn't consistent in regards to when it does it, time between freezes, etc. Task manager doesn't show anything, Malwarebytes doesn't show anything, I just factory reset my computer and that didn't do anything.

At this point, thinking it might be a hardware issue, any suggestions on how to test that without physically removing the parts?

Please help, can’t get my email addresses to not go to spam

I have a mailing list that I absolutely have to use this week. I have a book launch coming up and my advance readers need to get their reviews in.

I can’t email them. I tried to, using a CSV file from the opt in and imported the contacts to my new outlook email. Straight to their spam folder. Paid $100 and everything for the subscription.

Did some research and apparently you need your own domain email to not go to spam. I made a Microsoft business account or something and paid for that and now I have my own domain email. Sent an email from it, and straight to spam.

I’m at a loss, idk what to do, I have to contact 100 people asap and I can’t get through. I have another Hotmail address which is very old I was going to use by sending one email at a time but I don’t know if that’ll make a difference.

DATA (D:) just appeared after using PC for years

I'm not sure if anyone has encountered this before, or if it even is a problem, but randomly on my desktop a DATA (D:) drive has just appeared and is nearly empty. I have had this desktop for years now and have just been using an external hard drive since the Acer (C:) drive was too small to put any games on. Randomly today though a DATA (D:) drive just showed up in the drivers section. I have checked it for errors, tried to restart to see if it went away, and looked up the hardware name. I didn't know I had two hard drives. Does anyone know why this just appeared and what exactly it is? Is it safe to use?

When I go into the about section of the settings on my PC my storage says 1.14 TB with 878 GB used. Under the C: drive however I seem to have about 256 GB total with 222 GB used.

The DATA (D:) hardware name is: ST1000DM003-1sb102
The Acer (C:) hardware name is: LITEON CV1-8B256

Onn mouse possibly having malware

Hello I was looking at my pc and I happened to notice recently that a app was blocking me temporarily from turning my pc off. It was called KBDaemon and I looked into it. It was apparently a popular key logger malware. I wanted to spread awareness about it and ask. I believe I deleted it with uninstalling the mouse software but could it still be active and if so what should I do about it?

Laptop 'D' key doesn't work alone, but types "sd" when pressed with 'S'. Any fix?

Hi everyone,My laptop's 'D' key has stopped working completely when pressed by itself. However, if I press 'S' and 'D' together, it successfully types out "sd".

Is this a hardware/keyboard matrix issue, or a weird software glitch?

Laptop Model: ROG

OS: Windows

Storage Disappearing

So for the past few days/weeks my storage has been randomly decreasing like 0.5gigs here some there etc a few weeks ago i was at 110 gigs of free storage (cause i like to keep my main harddrive pretty clean for preformance) But now im down to 96.4 gigs of free space which isnt a huge difference but i dont know Why im losing that storage ive deleted more things then ive downloaded and i knowi dont have a virus cause i use malwarebytes and check almost every week as a percausion but yet im losing storage does anyone have any idea why?
Im on a gaming laptop made by Gigabyte, the G5 KF_MF_GF_QSG to be exact if that means anything
it has an I5 with a 5060 and i have a 512 gig ssd as my main drive with 64 gigs of RAM then i have a 1.5-terabyte external hard drive which i use to house my catalogue of games and such i very rarely download anything to my main drive except the absolute essentials
And i understand that that space might just be from daily use or something but id really like to have my storage back
