Random system freezes. Screen + audio stuck, only hard reboot fixes it (i7-14700K + ASUS ROG Strix DDR5 build)

Hi everyone,

I’m posting here because I’ve been struggling with a very frustrating and hard-to-diagnose issue on my new PC, and I really need help from people with more experience.

My system does not always crash with a Blue Screen of Death. Instead, it completely freezes randomly:

  • Screen freezes completely (image stuck)
  • Audio freezes or loops
  • Mouse and keyboard stop responding
  • No error screen appears
  • The only way to recover is a manual hard reboot (power button)

System specifications:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-14700K
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B760-A Gaming WiFi DDR5
  • Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR5 64GB (2 x 32GB) 6000MHz CL40
  • Graphics card: MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X 12GB
  • CPU cooler: Corsair iCUE Link Titan 240 RX RGB liquid cooler
  • Power supply: Corsair RM1000x Shift Gold Fully Modular
  • Storage: WD_BLACK SN7100 1TB NVMe SSD + WD Blue 500GB SSD + Western Digital Caviar Blue 4TB HDD
  • Case: Corsair 5000D Frame RS ARGB

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Updated BIOS to latest version available
  • Clean installation of Windows 11
  • Clean GPU driver installation using DDU
  • Monitored temperatures (CPU and GPU are completely normal)
  • Tested RAM with XMP enabled (6000MHz) and also at default JEDEC settings
  • Ran stress tests and basic stability checks
  • Checked Event Viewer (sometimes shows crashes related to ntoskrnl.exe, but no clear root cause)

Has anyone experienced something similar with Intel 14th Gen CPUs and DDR5 on ASUS ROG Strix motherboards?

Could this be related to:

  • RAM instability (64GB DDR5 6000MHz)?
  • CPU voltage / BIOS settings?
  • Load-line calibration or power limits?
  • Memory controller instability?

I’m honestly running out of ideas, so any real help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
