Any Outfield Gloves That Play Like Infield Gloves?

I’m looking to replace my 1799 for slow pitch because it just feels so big and clunky while playing that I almost always default to my old DW5 even though the ball clearly is barely holding in there.

Are there any outfield gloves out there that still feel nimble or snappy like an infield glove while still being able to swallow a softball or am I asking for a unicorn here?

Pop quiz hotshots

Game 1 of the playoffs you’re the #6 seed, do you start all the studs that showed up or rock with the crew that was able to show up every game?

***edit let me rephrase it a bit, the studs are guys that played games but weren’t able to make all games due to life/work. Not just playoff ringer pickups

As an outfielder, is it better to get rid of the ball ASAP, or take an extra 2 seconds to right yourself and make a strong, accurate throw?

I know, "it depends on the situation" and obviously you don't want anyone throwing the ball away. But on average, and assuming both balls are equally likely to be thrown to the cutoff man, is an outfielder better off making a weaker throw flat-footed but getting rid of immediately, or is it best practice to always take the extra time to right yourself and make a strong, accurate throw, even if it gives the baserunners that extra time?

Any Drills For Coiling/loading more in my back hip?

I’m looking to see if there’s any good drills for how to load/coil my back hip more. I can do it practicing, but for some reason, can’t do it in game.

I also see that when I start to stride in other swings, I’m not catching the ball out in front. Any drills for that as well?

Can you use a Rover for Mens League?

I've noticed a key difference between defensive alignments when compared to Co-ed vs Mens. It's really rare for a men's team to use a rover (aka shallow outfielder). Even some Womens league teams tend to use a rover the way its described. Now in co-ed I see these defensive alignments even for male batters so it's not like rovers are only for female batters.

Yet come Mens league, this becomes increasingly rare, even at the recreational tier level. Almost all mens use either a CF duo or a player shaded behind 2B bag. With baseball, there used to be a shift which effectively used a shallow outfielder to steal some hard ground balls/line drives. I'm pretty sure you can throw directly outfield to 1st in mens. So why don't more teams use a shallow outfielder in mens to maybe steal some free outs? Or is there an unwritten rule in mens to not use a baseball-style shift?

How do we decide whether to use a shallow outfielder? I'm slowly trying to learn the ins and outs of the mens game.

Our pitcher took a high pop up to the face

Our Sunday morning pitcher, who is a fantastic unlimited arc pitcher, took a sky high pop up off the noggin today. I am out with an injury and happened to capture this pic right before the point of impact. He's an OG but he's okay, the glasses somehow took the brunt of the softball more than his head lol.

Edit: the ball is shopped, it's a real photo otherwise with no AI. I could show the other photos for proof if anyone cares that much.

What's the difference between these stamps?

My league requires us to have one of the 3 stamps shown above the two pictures. I see two different USA stamps (circled in red) . what is the difference? They won't allow any bats with just the USA stamp in the right picture, but that's all I can find near me.

2000+ early season softball at-bats tracked. Here's an interactive spray chart and some cool insights!

Hey r/slowpitch, I'm the creator of slugstats.com. The platform has grown over the last few weeks, and I thought it would be fun to share some early insights.

Pulled completely anonymized summary data on 2,000+ plat appearances. A few things that jumped out:

- Global slash line: .599/.626/.946

- On average, about 1 HR every 20 at-bats

- Line drives turn into hits 87% of the time. Pop-ups: 20%

Breakdown with a filterable spray chart:

https://slugstats.com/insights/at-bats-by-the-numbers

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Selection bias caveat: This is data from people engaged enough to log ABs on a tracking app, so it skews toward more committed players with higher stats. Also, the vast majority of these at-bats are slowpitch softball, but there may be baseball, fastpitch, etc. in the mix.

Would you buy this bat with a rattle

Wondering if I should buy this with the rattle about $165

I've always shared my bats (regardless of their price) for the games and was a bit taken back from another thread to hear that that's not the norm.

I'm genuinely curious the age and location of those that do and don't and wonder if there is a correlation.

I mean for outside of the game I understand, but during the game, I want my teammates to have the best bat possible to hit with, as their success equals my success equals the team's success

So now I'm curious. Do you?

In my 40s, played baseball and softball in the Southeast and the West.

Home run!

Finally, in my 19th year of men’s softball, I hit one out of the park! Did it take anyone else this long? And did you start hitting them consistently or should I expect it to never happen again?

Batting First or Fielding First?

Conventional Wisdom says to field first and bat second as the home team.

But wouldn't you end up playing from behind a lot? And your team gets fewer at bats if you win the game.

Obviously Batting 2nd lets you get walk offs, but is there really an advantage to knowing how many runs you need? Shouldn't you always try to score as much as possible?

Has anyone had a good experience using a self-serve online store for team jerseys?

I am sick of ordering jerseys, fronting the money and people not paying for them, having to order more than I need and getting stuck with extras nobody will pay for, guessing how many of each size I might need and being wrong, etc.

I was thinking of maybe setting up an online store with the team art so everyone can just get their own and be responsible for it themselves so I don't have to waste $50-100 every year. Any cons to doing this aside from it maybe being a little more expensive per jersey? Any good recommendations?

Switch hitter switched boxes after first pitch

I’ve never seen this before tonight in the six years I’ve been playing. I asked the umpire if this was allowed and they said it was fine.

We play by NSA rules, and all I could find in a quick reading after the game was:

Rule 9: Dead Ball / Ball in Play
Section 1: The ball is dead and not in play:
b) When a batter steps from one box to another when the pitcher is ready to pitch.

This doesn’t explicitly state that it’s a rule about switch hitting, but I guess it could be implied.

Does anyone have any more knowledge on this than I do?

Players needed for a game tonight in Orange County, CA

As the title implies. Got a game tonight at 9:25pm at Hart Park in Orange, CA, and my team needs a player. Would anybody be willing to come through and fill in? Please let me know, appreciate you all

Sober teams

I’m not 100% sober but I rarely drink, would a sober team/league welcome someone like me to play with them? I play in another league and it’s so centered around drinking (on the field, right after the game, fundraisers at bars) and it’s sometimes it’s just too much.

I wouldn’t want to put myself somewhere that wasn’t exactly made for me but I think it would be a nice change.
