Shadows of Undrentide Feels Like the Real Neverwinter Nights Experience

After spending more than 70 hours playing the original Neverwinter Nights campaign, I finally finished the first expansion, Shadows of Undrentide, in around 32 hours… and honestly? The game improves in almost every possible way.

Compared to the original campaign, this expansion is a thousand times more engaging. The companions actually feel alive now. They comment on locations, enemies, and even on things you do during the adventure. Sometimes they randomly start conversations with you, talk about their motivations, their past, and their personal goals… something I really missed in the original campaign, where companions felt way more bland and lifeless.

And something that might sound small or meaningless to some people, but for me made a HUGE difference in immersion: the animations. Shadows of Undrentide adds many small animations that make the game feel much more alive. There are animations when you get hit hard and fall to the ground, when you receive a curse and kneel down, when you pray inside temples… tiny details that most people might ignore, but if you enjoy immersive and slightly “gruesome” RPG details, you notice them immediately. The game feels far more cinematic compared to the original campaign.

Another thing: this expansion is WAY harder. I played on Normal, but I’m not gonna lie… there were moments where I had to switch to Easy just to get through certain sections, then switched back to Normal later. Compared to the original campaign, combat here punishes you much more.

I started from scratch specifically to experiment with multiclass builds, and it ended up being one of the best decisions I made. I played as a Bard / Red Dragon Disciple / Pale Master mix, and it was insanely fun.

The puzzles also surprised me. They sit in that perfect middle ground: not so easy that they become automatic, but not frustratingly difficult either.

The side quests are also much better than the ones in the original campaign. Even though many of them still follow the classic “go get this item and come back” structure, most of them actually have some kind of story, context, or motivation behind them. They don’t feel like meaningless filler quests. That made me way more interested in completing every side quest I could find.

Another thing I loved was the equipment variety. In the original campaign, it often felt like loot was basically the same armor over and over again, just with different numbers attached to it like +1, +2, +3. In Shadows of Undrentide, there’s much more variety in gear and equipment overall, making loot feel far more rewarding and interesting to discover.

Even the choice system feels more impactful here. You don’t always notice the consequences immediately during the chapters, but near the ending you can definitely feel that your decisions mattered more, and I really liked that.

The characters overall are far more charismatic. Even the protagonist feels like they have a bit more personality this time around, even if they still follow that classic “badass hero” archetype.

And the villain… honestly, she’s so much better than the villain from the original campaign. She has actual motivations, personality, and you clearly understand why she does what she does. She’s not evil just for the sake of being evil.

In the end, Shadows of Undrentide feels like what the original Neverwinter Nights campaign should have been from the very beginning.

Dasaria is Returning!

Nearly twenty-five years after its original launch in 2002, Dasaria is returning for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition.

For many players from the early NWN era, Dasaria was more than just a persistent world. It was a long-running community-driven fantasy setting built around roleplay, exploration, political conflict, live storytelling, and persistent consequences. Characters, factions, and player actions helped shape the world over years of development and play.

What Kind of Server is Dasaria?

Dasaria is fundamentally a roleplay-centric persistent world, but it has always welcomed a broad range of players and playstyles. Whether your interests are deep character roleplay, exploration, dungeon delving, PvE progression, faction conflict, crafting, storytelling, or simply experiencing a living fantasy world alongside others, the server is designed to support and encourage all of those experiences.

The setting itself is entirely custom-built.

Dasaria’s lore centers around an ancient and enduring struggle between the benevolent Kingdom of Dasaria and the tyrannical, expansionist Empire of Varana — a conflict that has shaped generations of war, politics, faith, heroism, betrayal, and sacrifice across the world.

Dasaria is not based in the Forgotten Realms setting and instead features its own original world, cultures, history, and pantheon. The religious and mythological foundations of the setting are heavily inspired by ancient Mesopotamian mythology, and include gods and goddesses like Marduk, Ki, and Anu.

Modernization and Restoration Work:

We are currently rebuilding and modernizing the server for the Enhanced Edition platform while remaining faithful to the original spirit and atmosphere that made Dasaria special in the first place.

Current work includes:

- Modern infrastructure and update deployment workflows for a multi-member development team
- NWSync integration for streamlined content delivery
- NWNX integration and backend improvements
- Discord integration and live server tools
- Quality-of-life improvements
- Optimization passes across the game world and systems
- Restoration and auditing of legacy content spanning decades of development

Current Status

The server is currently in an active beta phase, and we are especially welcoming legacy Dasarians and veteran NWN players who want to help test content, rediscover old stories, and help shape the relaunch experience.

The official public relaunch is planned for later this month, May 2026.

Website & Community

If you were part of the original Dasaria community — or simply miss the era of classic persistent worlds and story-driven multiplayer RPGs — we would love to see you again!

70+ Hours Into Neverwinter Nights OC — A Rewarding but Surprisingly Divisive Experience

Has anyone else had a really divisive experience with Neverwinter Nights? I’m already over 70 hours into the original campaign and wanted to share some thoughts.

I first got introduced to D&D through the old cartoon that used to air on TV when I was younger. Ever since then, I always had this little spark of curiosity about diving deeper into the Forgotten Realms universe. I considered starting with Baldur’s Gate, Planescape, or Icewind Dale, but ended up choosing Neverwinter Nights purely out of nostalgia, since I spent around 4 years of my teenage years playing Neverwinter Online.

So I decided to begin my journey with Neverwinter Nights.

Guys… I’m currently near the end of Chapter 3 finishing side quests, and honestly, the experience has been both good and strange at the same time. You can clearly see some ideas BioWare would later carry into Dragon Age. I honestly think when I eventually play Neverwinter Nights 2, that inspiration will become even more obvious.

But if I’m being honest, I think the game feels pretty weak in some aspects. A lot of the dialogue has this MMORPG vibe of “do this and receive your reward.” I don’t really feel much depth in the interactions between characters, nor a strong personal storyline for companions. Everything feels rushed. The companions themselves don’t have especially compelling development, and even considering the game’s age, the relationship system feels pretty limited.

On the other hand, the gameplay genuinely surprised me. I was impressed by the huge variety of enemies, spells, mechanics, classes, and build possibilities. I think that’s easily the game’s biggest strength. It really does feel like you’re playing something very close to an actual D&D campaign in terms of mechanical freedom.

Now… the villains and the main story so far have felt pretty cliché to me, sometimes even weak. There were moments where I genuinely wanted to take a break because the game started feeling repetitive. In some sections I even found myself skipping dialogue just to move the campaign forward faster.

Even so, weirdly enough, I still find the experience rewarding overall. It’s one of those games where I complain a lot while playing, but still keep wanting to come back to it. And honestly, I can’t wait to finish the original campaign and finally jump into the expansions/DLCs, because I’ve heard from a lot of people that they’re much better than the OC.

I really want to like this game but

steam enhanced edition
When the game works it’s incredible but like
I can’t deal with the crashes man. Got all the way to Neverwinter on one character and then it crashes everytime I do the city watch quest. Whatever start a new character I wasn’t enjoying cleric anyways. now it crashes when I help the kids in the house during the tutorial. everytime I leave the building. Animal Companions name disappeared, can’t use number keys in dialogue anymore. It’s too much man. Is the version on GOG going to fix these issues or will I just never be able to enjoy this game. Please help im at my wits end lmao

Elder Brain in Zorvak'Mur

Hello
I'm playing Hordes of the Underdark and because I'm too lazy to read all the dialogue I just slaughter everyone I meet. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get to the Elder Brain in Zorvak'Mur. All the guides I found online only have the solution for the diplomatic path.

It's not a huge issue, I have a save game from just before I entered the city, and could do it the diplomatic way. I would only lose an hour. But like I said, I'm a rather lazy person and would hate to replay this section of the game. Does anyone know how to reach the Elder Brain using the combat approach?

Need help with priory of umberlee puzzle

Hey guys, I’m playing SoZ and got to port last. Got the quest to get rid of the storms. When I got to the priory of umberlee, I’m stonewalled by the puzzle of song. Only two of the nine spirals will light up at a time, and every single other one that I run over will either stay dead or shock me. Does anyone have information on how the hell to beat this?

Knockdown and Discipline

From what I understand the Discipline skill is mainly used to prevent Knockdown. Do any enemy NPCs or creatures actually use Knockdown though? Is this skill actually worth investing in?

**NWN1**

Has anyone ever done the maths on this? Assuming Keen Edge and Improved Criticals (obviously, as it is a prerequisite). My character is a Bard 20 / Fighter 10 / Red Dragon Disciple 10 with a Strength that is north of 40+.

I believe I once read that for a STR-build, two-handed weapons was better, and for DEX-build with Sneak Attacks, dual-wielding was better. But I don’t know if that is the case at such a high STR.

I can obviously get a ridiculously high amount of damage per attack with a Greatsword. Damage is often increased with Power Attack. But… am I wrong to think that activating Power Attack actually hinders me for Devastating Criticals? The -5 penalty to hit carries over to check if the critical is confirmed, right?

If I’m dual wielding scimitars instead, I get more attacks (with a -2 penalty on everything), crit range is increased to 12-20, but I lose the 1.5x STR-bonus to damage.

Basically, I just don’t know if my average output is better with :
A) Greatsword with Power Attack, but less chance to crit.
B) Greatsword without Power Attack, but more chances to confirm a crit.
C) Dual-Scimitars with Power Attack, but less chance to crit (greater range, but -7 on all attacks).
D) Dual-Scimitars without Power Attack, but more chances to confirm a crit (greater range, but -2 on all attacks, and more occurences/dice rolled).

Edit : This is for NWN1. Wielding a Scimitar two-handed is not an option.

Siege of Shadowdale dragon encounter

Alright so what is going on with the zombie green dragon in Siege of Shadowdale? This thing has a ton of hit points and spell resistance. With a fighter/cleric in full plate, tower shield, ring of protection, divine favor, mage armor, barkskin, clarity, potion of heroism, and necklace of acid resistance I couldn't beat this thing. Then I realized it can't leave the stone circle so I used a bow and shot it while it stood there. Took 40 arrows.

Is there some other way that you're supposed to kill this thing that I just missed? Is this supposed to be a joke encounter? I doubt this is the intended way to do this.

I have Deekin as my follower, and he only has a crossbow. No melee weapon in his inventory or equipped. He has plenty of bolts and spells. Yet when we fight people he has a constant need to stand right next to them, draw aggro since my AC is so much higher, and shoot them difficulty since he decided to be point blank range.

It basically gets him killed everytime due to his poor AC, and low HP.

I've tried telling him, don't attack till I do, to stay a LONG distance away from me, etc etc, but he just has this odd heroic suicidal tendacy to face tank everything with his crossbow in hand. Literally everything. It's fine when nit's just 1-2 enemies but when there are a large group of 4+ he just gets demolished instantly and I am sent to 1v4 them now, making it impossible, and waste a lot of healing on him that I shouldn't normally have to do.

He does have the point blank feat which I think is why his AI is telling him to kill himself, for that sweet sweet +1 to hit. He is really showing his -1 wis off.

I may not have built him correctly, or given him any sort armor once he became a monk, or bothered to learn how monks work, but Khelhar Ironfist did save my folly-full run.

This was my first time playing and I had made it to the final fight where I needed to destroy the statues surrounding the King of Shadows, so I had Khelgar relentless attack them while the rest of my part fought. I did not even bother controlling the other members of my party, I just was watching Khelgar punch. Even when he would only do 2 or 3 damage to the statue and other times do 20 something damage, I just kept him there.

By the time the statues were done, the rest of the party had fallen. I desperately had poor Khelgar running around in circles, sometimes punching the portal, then running back. But once the portal was broken and only the King of Shadows remained, I realized I may be doomed.

Khelgar ran into that little room to the side that you enter from, and the King of Shadows was pulled over there into that room with him. I thought it was over. But then, for some reason, Ammon Jerro got back up. I didn't build him either.

Ammon started searching the bodies of my fallen companions while Khelgar was still fighting and found one scroll of resurrection. This was an incredibly lucky find because I typically sell all my scrolls.

With that scroll he picked, he was able to resurrect my Knight-Captain, and together went to help Khelgar who actually managed to stay relatively unscathed while also having brought the King of Shadows to half health.

The King of Shadows fell, the day was won. Thank you Khelgar Ironfist. And Ammon Jerro but he had a lot to make up for so maybe a little less thanks for him.

Now to Mask of the Betrayer!

This is both a personal post (I'd like to post the PW I play on) but also a way to avoid some of the comments I see on other PW recommendations that I feel are low quality or don't paint the whole picture.

With the TikTok NWN:EE rush, a few players will trickle in here and look for recommendations so this seems like a good opportunity to make introductions to PWs easier.

How about we make a list to easily sum up the different PWs? I've tried looking at the sidebar and haven't found anything.

Players in the know: Fill out and post the form below. Is it missing something?

Been thinking about taking it for a spin for the first time while trying Aielund Saga.

With the base game classes and races, feel like I've already played all the combos I was actually interested in and am now looking for abit more variety and this looks like exactly it, I just won't to turn modules into an imbalanced mess because of it but you can't have everything perfect, right?

Want to do a hero's path and I need advices

Hi !

As said in the title, I want to do a Hero's Path with a sorcerer so I can try their gameplay on a full range, especially at high epic, but I'm a bit lost. There are many suggestions in the link and I'm not even sure if it's a good idea to plan from the beginning all the campaign I'll do. So my question are:

- Do you have recommended "path", like multiple modules that work well together, especially for a caster character ?

- Should I even plan the whole path or improvised ?

- Are there some important advice that I should know ?

Some points: I don't want to do Aielund Saga with a caster even if it would provide a full high epic experience because of how has been changed the way spells works. I too already try AS and don't want to redo it for now. And I won't do the Infinite dungeon from lvl 5 to 40. I've tried it from like 5 to 7 and found it especially boring and repetitive. Too, I won't do a full run of Swordflight because I don't want a hardcore module and started to dislike it at the end of chapter 3 and what I was reading about did confirm me that I shouldn't continue. I'm still open to other good long duration module that go from 1 (or higher) to 40.
