I use the magnet wand that comes with your purchase but I don’t think it’s strong enough because my manicure always comes out looking way more red than the promo pic.

Deadly nightshade is SO hard to capture, it looks different under every single angle !

After some crazy, bright manis the last few weeks I felt like doing something softer and all the posts last week about After the Rain inspired me! AtR was the first Mooncat polish that I ever saw, it was so stunning and different that it got me to click an ad on Instagram, which i never do! Basically it was my gateway drug almost two years ago and now I have over 100 Mooncat polishes 😅 anyways, all that to say AtR has a special place in my heart and cemented my identity as a purple girly 💜

AtR is very sheer, so I was lazy and used a coat of Sweet Nightmare as a base for one coat of AtR. I'm very pleased with the effect; indoors (first three pics) it still had all that lovely sparkle that makes AtR so special, but outside in direct sunlight (last two pics) it's very purple, which I think is the base creme coming through. This combo is super pretty and I'll probably be doing it more, it'll make my bottle of AtR last longer cause I won't have to do three or four coats to get the opacity I'm looking for!

I charged up the solars with a UV light prior to snapping the pictures and they both shift beautifully and rapidly.

My fave color is teal. Idk why I never thought to mix blue and green 😅 I need a million more greens now! Plus green nails really brings the pink/red out in my skin! I’m normally very olive! 🫒

3x coats of each polish - Love these colors, and they dried quickly so the magnetic effect barely dispersed overnight!

Before I begin, this kinda looks like Mutiny (?), which I don't own, but it does have a green base as far as I remember. It's just darker than the promo/swatch pictures and I did 3 coats. It probably would be lighter over like white or something, or a green base. Although now that I'm posting this I'm like "what if they mislabeled and actually did give me mutiny" so after I post I am gonna go look up more pictures to ease my mind 💀 Also disregard my dry skin/cuticles oops (I wore this a few months ago and it was winter/snowing still and I'm bad at regularly oiling etc)

I felt like... Today specifically.... Was a good day to post this so I'm doing exactly that 😅

I actually don't have much to say about this one, because I just love it. Like it's one of my favorite magnetics ever. The base is dark but I really don't care tbh. Even if they did mislabel I am not saying a single word about it to CS because I am obsessed with it. The magnetic particles are just chef's kiss and shift between like a bright green to a yellowish goldish color.

Last picture shows the very faint visibility of "Green Eyed Monster"! I noticed it disappeared over "Full Scream Ahead" and wanted to give my nails some secrets!

So, I CANNOT do cat’s eye effects with magnetics because I always, always, tap my wet polish with the wand. Placing the wand underneath works but the line isn’t as crisp. Other magnet holders don’t have adjustable heights so the magnet is too far from your finger (again, not crisp) and/or, you have to slide your finger in and I cannot be trusted to move smoothly. I’ve also had trouble aligning the magnet repeatable between coats and I don’t have the patience to do one nail at a time.

Therefore, I present my 3D-printed creation! These little holders allow me to keep my finger in place the whole time and then drop the magnet on quickly and repeatably after each coat. The little spacers on each dowel allow me set the precise height for each finer before painting so that I don’t smudge wet polish with the magnet.

I thought the little finger stopper in the front would be helpful but I think I’m actually going to delete it on the next revision. I’m also going to move the dowels further out to five myself more space to paint my side walls more cleanly and I may make a little sideways wedge for my pinky holder since it’s a little difficult to hold all 4 fingers perfectly flat at once; my pinky wants to turn.

Do you see any other room for improvement?

I’m a semi-recent Mooncat convert. I got into Mooncat after realizing that I would be spending way too much money on salon gel manicures that I didn’t really love.

I’ve absolutely loved my Mooncat polishes but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the *super* hard and long-lasting shine that came from gel polish and topcoats.

I’ve experimented with a few — sèche vite + Essie gel effect was my go-to for a while but I experienced some major shrinkage with a few polishes.

I’m currently trying out 2 coats Essie gel effect which so far doesn’t feel awful but isn’t quite hitting it.

If anyone has any suggestions I’m all ears!

Happy 420 to my fellow gardeners! The base color is Olive & June Still Life of Flowers. Then I topped it with two coats of Hardcore Buttercup. Then sally Hansen quick dry top coat, and OPI’s matte top coat. I think it kinda looks like a darker Best Buds, not that I own it to compare. Have a dank day!
