Cortis shouldn't be immune from criticism just because they're teenagers.

To be clear, I don't think their looks should be discussed at all, minors or not, so that is not what I'm talking about here.

However, I do think criticizing their music and to a point their actions is fair game.

Any time someone says they don't like a song by Cortis, you can count on the responses to be "they're literally teenagers btw," "you're literally criticizing teenagers," "you could never accomplish what they have at 17" etc etc.

Yes some of them are teenagers, but they also made the choice to become public figures who release music to the public so yeah I do think the public has the right to say "I thought that song was bad." And good on them for being self-produced, but sometimes self-produced songs are still bad.

They're also teenagers, not children, and therefore self aware of themselves and what they do, so yes I think they can face criticism for their actions. Regardless of if they're 17 I am going to call an obvious blaccent a blaccent.

I also don't even think their fans inoculating them from criticism like this will help them grow as artists. If anything they do is okay because they're teenagers and any song they put is out is great because they're teenagers, there's no room to grow.

giselle addresses people claiming she has a new face every day

reminder that idols are human beings who see all the negative comments made about them, not sure why people feel especially comfortable talking about aespa members in such a gross manner

edit: a lot of people seem to be missing the point, no one is denying giselle and the other members have gotten work done. the issue is when we’re speaking about other people’s bodies and making absurd claims about them getting a new face with every public appearance, it obviously doesn’t come from a good place.

Why are k-pop vinyls so rare? Do you think this will ever change?

Hi, American fan here. I have gotten really into collecting vinyls ever since getting a record player last year. Most artists in the US and Europe release their new albums on vinyl these days, including very small bands and artists. Most have even re-released their albums from the 90s and 00s (when vinyl production was at its lowest point). If you’re frugal you can still find most records for under $30 (USD) new if you look hard enough.

I’m a fan of many genres, including k-pop. It seems the only artists I can find standard priced vinyls for are Blackpink and BTS. I can’t even find any TWICE pre-2024 either. And most of these are exclusive to mega-corporate chains like Target, that usually sell their records broken due to poor shipping and storage practices. When I try to find records online, they sell for around $400 (Like Taeyeon’s INVU), but most don’t exist at all. So why is the k-pop market so dead with vinyl record production? It’s so frustrating because a group like Mamamoo would be perfect for the record player, where you just sit back and enjoy, not being able to skip tracks. I would have their whole color collection if it was on vinyl. You would also think that the k-pop companies would be all over vinyl production since it lends itself best to collector items and up-charges.

The baffling part is that Korea and Japan share many cultural similarities in the music space. And Japan has the strongest historical vinyl market in the world. After the West moved away from vinyl in the 80s, Japan stayed strong. Often times in the 90s or 00’s, the only way to get your favorite western artists vinyl was to see if your local record shop could order one from Japan.

So what gives? Why is the Korean market so averse to vinyl? Why are they so obsessed with CDs and cassettes when the rest of the world has largely shifted away from those mediums? Do you think vinyl will ever become popular in Korea?

Why are we digging up old stuff as gotchas all of a sudden?????

The guy from RIIZE said the slur. Okay. But instead of talking about something that happened NOW, someone digs up an old ass video of Jimin where he also say the word. Probably to rgaebait armies. And it worked. And now, someone posted an EVEN OLDER RAP of Han from SKZ where he says it. HE. WAS. 13.

Why can't k-pop stans ever have normal conversations about what's happening now without bringing up old shit from bigger groups???

What do we feel about K-pop fans discovering that they can accuse groups of copying?

This is no hate toward BTS in any way, shape, or form! An example to showcase my point. Over the past few months, I've been seeing an endless number of "reheating xyz's nachos" and "plagiarism" accusations, and it's hilarious how most/all of these don't correlate.

Seen in the picture, they're "calling out" Taeyong for having a ship in his promos when it was a small part of his album about his experiences in the NAVY for the past 2 years, which is valid since he's literally the first K-pop idol to be part of the Navy military band. This has also happened with the same two groups, with the "matching jerseys to the airport" and having the same song titles being a crime.

I thought it might have perhaps been only those specific groups, but Aespa and NMIXX have been going at it for weeks. Thought it might be helpful in terms of seeing different trends, etc., but it has just blatantly turned towards outright fanwars. A penny for ya'll thoughts?

Why are people praising kpop idols for attending met Gala 2026?

Gala 2026 was sponsered by jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos.. if u don't know..

And it was Boycotted by many because of exploitation of workers and a lot of protests were held and it is indeed wrong

The theme was "fashion is art" and ur telling me a billionaire..( unethical) was sponsoring it for funsies..

The world is burning..and this rich elites are playing dress up..

But not getting into that

Other celebrities faced a lot of criticism but Kpop idols are praised for.. attending it please STOP IDOL WORSHIP . Criticize ur idols s choice.. trust me I don't hate this girls but i just felt bad

Also i don't want ppl to be like "oh they didn't knew" Nd oh don't bring politics into it..

Come on everything is political..

Criticize ppl for wrong things

And once again i don't hate the girls just sad they would support Bezos funded show..but anyways.

Sorry for my typing errors it's not my first launguage

BTS is great, ARMY (online) are not 🫩

I love BTS' music, they've been consistently my top artist for the past few months and I saw them in Tampa, which was an AMAZING experience. so #love them!!!!

BUT omggg ARMY have been irritating me so bad lately, especially with this new bout of NCT vs. BTS bs. because god forbid ANYONE else have a ship/ocean themed concept (not to mention TY was literally in the navy...) I've seen people go so far as to say that NCT wish releasing a song called 2.0 is copying BTS. girl. CLOSE YOUR EYES released a song called 2.0 in 2025 but nobody is saying BTS copied them. because that would be stupid 😭 because it IS stupid.

also seeing how army have been about the ticketing and who goes to concerts is another thing getting on my nerves. tf do you mean BTS concerts are "for army not multistans" as if you can't stan any other group as an army? can we PLEASE be for real 😭🙏

I'm a multistan, I've only been into kpop for 2 years and BTS for a few months so maybe I just haven't gotten deep enough into the fandom to see the good in it? I'm also an NCT ult so it doesn't make sense to me why people feel the need to pit them against each other or put them down (or any other groups, for that matter) to enjoy or be proud of BTS?

it sucks because BTS is accomplishing a lot and are popping off on tour right now, which I wanna celebrate but it is genuinely SO EXHAUSTING to engage with any content or army online because it seems like EVERYTHING with them is some sort of competition or fight.

everyone I met irl at the concert was so chill and sweet, so like maybe it's just that the people who are the loudest online are the annoying/fan-warring type but idk man. I love BTS but I don't want any part in the toxicity of the fandom..

I'm lowkey scared other army are going to come for me for this but it should be said that toxic army are the reason why

  1. other fandoms don't like us

  2. people don't want to get into BTS

I said what I said

BTS demand in Mexico?

So I was genuinely shocked whilst scrolling on X. What’s do you mean 70k people were waiting outside the concert venue??!!? In this day and age where artists are cancelling tours these Korean dudes have sold out tours beyond demand ? As an Asian, I’m proud!

T.O.P's New Album Is Literally Another Dimension.

How is the feedback of korean citizens for T.O.P's new album?

Like it's so good, and honestly impressive. It definitely exceeded the general expectations most fans had.

Not only because this comeback is after a decade but also there is no skips in this album and on top of that the lyrics... Oh boy... Ovaya... It's just so good.

Anyway, can anyone update us about the recent reactions of Koreans in general and not like the korean fans but casual listeners of the pop music there in Korea.

Why do people hate kiss of life so much

Obviously, I’m aware that what they did on the livestream was stupid, and I understand why people might have been hurt or upset. But the girls apologized four times:

  1. From their company, S2 Entertainment, shortly after the livestream was deleted.
  2. Julie apologized again during a livestream directly addressing Black and Latino communities.
  3. A handwritten apology from the members themselves was posted on Instagram.
  4. S2 Entertainment issued another statement addressing harassment and threats toward the group.

They apologized four times, and people still hate them. Some people keep saying, “Oh, they only apologized after getting hate,” but that’s not necessarily true. And even if they did, they still apologized, but instead of people accepting it, many don’t.

Also, there are dozens of idols who have been accused of racism or cultural appropriation, but they were never “canceled.” For example, G-DRAGON, BLACKPINK members like Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé (I think), and members of BTS like Suga, RM, and Jungkook (I think) have all faced backlash for similar issues. They got hate, but it didn’t seriously damage their long-term reputation or popularity, and they still have huge fanbases.

I’m not saying we should pretend what anyone did was right. But if people are going to “cancel” KISS OF LIFE, then shouldn’t the same standard apply to BTS, BLACKPINK, G-DRAGON, and others too?

It feels like the girls deserve a second chance. It doesn’t seem fair that a group with such good music and talented members gets heavily criticized and barely forgiven, while others are treated differently for similar situations. (Also i'm African American so i can speak on this)

Yuta talked about how NCT 127 had to choose baits in the group to deal with ssngs.

Translation accounts have also shared that ssngs have found his phone number no matter how many times he changed and has sent indecent messages for the course of years.

So many groups have faced this insanity not only 127 and it’s so crazy to me. Remember stray kidz green penlights? 😭 127’s Jungwoo reportedly had so many ssngs outside of his house that they denied all his dating rumors. Jaehyun’s hotel break in, Haechan’s family home break in, etc etc

I used to think all the crazy things like kidnapping, poisoning and more pertained only to the 2nd gen idols but what’s happening now is still so weird??

Obligatory “as a Korean…” post

I don’t really know much about 은석, but I’ve been seeing all the posts about 깜둥이 vs. n-word. Which was already pissing me off, then I just found out he was referring to a PICTURE OF HIS YOUNGER SELF.

So worst case, his comment showed internalized colourism (which wouldn’t be surprising, as a very dark skinned Korean I used to want white skin). NOT EQUIVALENT TO SAYING THE N-WORD.

I’m just so tired of people not realizing Korea existed before k-pop became popular. Koreans have been inhabiting our land for over 5000 years now. We have been a homogenous society for thousands of years up until recently.

I get that it’s the choice of these K-pop groups to market globally, which means yes, they should be considerate of their fans and their political/racial climate. Using that word wasn’t smart, but comparing it to a white celebrity in Europe/North America saying the n-word is absolutely insane.

It reminded me of seeing comments about how Korean artists shouldn’t use “니가/네가” in songs because it SOUNDS like the n-word (which thankfully wasn’t a popular opinion, but still). Like ???? that is our language that we fought with blood to keep, even through 36 years of Japan’s colonization.

Again, I get that being a k-pop idol is a job. And if a group is choosing to appeal to a global audience, absolutely they should be mindful of that. And no I’m not saying Korea is perfect (trust me, we are far from it).

My point is: I’m tired of seeing people spreading misinformation about Korea just to help their argument in some fandom war (which I would argue are most people criticizing this man*). Please remember that Korea is an actual country that has been existing for thousands of years before you discovered k-pop.

ETA: ive been informed the “kid” is actually a 25 year old man. Now I’m judging him harsher for being stupid/insensitive enough to put that in a chat to his fans as a K-pop idol… Still don’t think he deserves to be called racist though

AI use in aespa's new mv

Just watched the WDA music video and i am distraught!!!😭 i am genuinely upset that aespa used as much AI as they did after I was a proud my, praising them for not doing so unlike groups like le seerafim and bp.

Also this is kind of unrelated but I am really worried for what sm has planned for them. I feel like back in the day the best thing about them was genuinely how unique and experimental they were, that no matter what the new song was it sounded different to the scene, and i feel like sm has focused less on that and tried to make them more generic and tone down the concepts. Who knows! maybe lemonade will save us all!!!

EDIT!!: I think this could also be worth discussing. I hate when the teaser came out and people were defending it because "actually their concept is AI, that's kinda the whole point" ok dude when they debuted the concept was much more about like the virtual world if anything, the ae members being their avatars/companions from the virtual world. and even iff!!! even if their concept was AI (which if it was im hoping it would be in a satirical way that generally holds a critical position regarding generative models) you can replicate the surreal slop-ish look of ai generated content with real human work, i mean for god's sake AI content is generated by consuming human made content, ESPECIALLY UNDER A COMPANY AS LARGE AS SM!!!!!

the US court has officially ruled in favor of granting Bang Chan the information about the X accounts that created deepfakes of him

Back in September 2025, it was revealed that Bang Chan had placed a request to identify the users behind several accounts that created and spread deepfakes of him on Twitter/X so that their information can then be taken to file a civil defamation lawsuit in Korea. Today, it was revealed that it has been approved for him to obtain that information. This is such great news, especially given that people on the Internet have gotten too comfortable with speaking on celebrities and thinking that the anonymity of an Internet account will protect them from that slander. Between Jackson Wang directly calling out an account on X, Giselle directly addressing people claiming that she "has a new face every day", and now Bang Chan being allowed to obtain the personal information needed to sue these accounts, I hope idols become more comfortable with fighting back against the bad comments being made constantly about them.

Riize Eunsok controversy from a Korean perspective

I’m a Korean K-pop fan and I genuinely think foreign fans are crossing the line
The word he used 깜둥이 isn’t really a racist term Koreans describe animals or objects as their color like a white dog we call it 흰둥이, a black dog 깜둥이 it’s not like the n word guys cmon…
Korea is a homogeneous country and in our language (unlike English ) when we refer to color it does not usually mean race
Why are you trying to change the Korean language/culture just by liking K-pop doesn’t mean you can tell Koreans what to say or do

In Korea most fans share the same view as me (I don’t know about the Korean K-pop fans of Reddit ) calling foreign fans easily offended

But reflect on yourselves you were offended by a unintended not even existing racist term but y’all are sending literal death threats to Eunsok

The hypocrisy?

The victim mindset is crazy

How much do youtube ads do for a big groups success?

So i seen a tweet about the amount of views the new Babymonster MV has got in ads compared to the actual amount of people who actually watched the MV. and I'm wondering how beneficial is it? Because i feel like a majority of people just skip ads anyway so why do big companies have so many ads for their groups?

Like i doubt the amount of people that would become a fan of a group because of a youtube ad is that much in comparison to the money a company would spend on the ads.

So do youtube ads really help a groups success?

(This isn't just about Babymonster or YG. its just that's where i first saw the discussion)

The Sakura skill gap discourse is so weird and unjustified to me (Saint Satine)

I feel like people are seriously overreacting to Sakura joining Saint Satine/Prelude after the final piece ended.
The main complaints I keep seeing are the age gap, the skill gap, and the fact that she doesn’t speak English fluently. But honestly none of those things are actually that crazy in Kpop.

People are acting like a group can’t function if one member is noticeably weaker than the others, but we’ve literally already seen this before with i-dle. One member clearly stood out in basically everything from the start. Vocals, dance, stage presence, producing, songwriting, all of it. And yes, even Korean language!! And the group still debuted fine and became successful anyway. Groups don’t need every member to be equal skill wise to work.

And the language thing is such a weird argument to me too. “She doesn’t even speak English.” Okay… and? Shuhua barely spoke Korean when she debuted. Even now she struggles speaking confidently in interviews and nobody acts like that makes her a bad idol or a bad fit for the group. Learning languages while promoting has always been normal in Kpop.

Also people judging Sakura off one performance is kind of unfair. So many idols looked awkward or underdeveloped at debut and improved a ton later on. Shuhua next to a Soyeon might be one of the biggest skill gaps we have in Kpop within a group, yet they are successful and thriving as hell. At this point it just feels like people already decided they didn’t want her in the group, so now every little thing gets treated like some huge issue when it really isn’t…
