Need advice on acoustic treating a new room

Hello everyone! I just downgraded from a big room (almost double the size of this one), to a smaller 9,56 square meters (or roughly 102.9 square feet). Besides treating first reflections (which I haven't done yet) what else should I do to be able to record more comfortably in this room, and also use the monitors (I mostly mix with headphones at the moment). Those bass traps are pretty much cosmetic at this point, since the monitors aren't in front of them lol, would it make more sense to place a large panel in the wall behind them (below the window)? I'm making the acoustic panels myself.
I would also like to ask your opinion on the choice of monitors, I've had these Yamaha HS7's for a long time, because I had a large studio in which these made sense, but are they too big/loud for the room I have?

Thank you in advance!

I built a simple tool for people who hate DAWs (would love feedback)

Im a sound engineer but I wanted something faster for my own workflow, especially when working with stems from hardware setups / SD recordings.

So I ended up building a simple app that:
takes stems or add a song and you will have automacally 4 stems on the mixing section

you can even upoload a video format and automacally extract the audio for processing,
auto mixes (EQ, comp, limiter, imaging)
lets you quickly tweak or add FX

exports ready WAV in minutes

You can also load a full track and split it into stems and work backwards.

(especially from people who hate complicated setups 😄

If you like to check it let me know

Messing around this morning with Tape 16

Starting to really enjoy it finally instead of squashing the bugs constantly! Just found a few more in the bounce section, so i'll patch that up asap.

TO FIX (off the top of my head)

- auto updater not working at all
- bounce is using old save disk pattern (producing pops/cracks)
- add change log to updated version screen
- smoother plugin browsing, so hover doesn't get stuck
- track names on SSL

Send me some if you have any ideas/bugs!

Let There Be Rack

A guitar rig that has 7 guitars always plugged in, ready to rock. No pedals, just MIDI foot switch, KSR Ceres, and 3 expression pedals. One button patch changes. 9 microphones on 18 speakers in various cabs on an ISO booth. Three 4x cabs and three 2x cabs. Fast real time routing for external effects, external comps, and master bus with RME interfaces.

Guitar rig is based around EL84, EL34, and 6L6 power amplifier output sections with various preamps for tonal variety. The centerpiece being the Sound Sculpture Switchblade ET’s by Ken Czepelka (R.I.P.)

I started with the ADA MP1 in 1988 as my first purchase, but the Rockman was my first actual exposure to MIDI, the original XP100 amplifier was replaced with the Rockman XPR, mine is a pre-production prototype.

Fractal Axe FX III is the new addition, this attempts to cover a lot of ground from real world gear and is mostly comparable, but my heart remains with the older originals. Volume, resonance, harmonic complexity.

Celestion Heritage Greenback G12M 20w, Heritage Greenback G12H(55), Heritage Greenback G12H(75), Greenback G12M 25w, Alnico Blue, Alnico 100, Mesa Vintage 30, Eminence GA-SC 64… all pairs.

I need help deciding on an audio interface

Hey everyone :)

I am in need of help deciding what audio interface to purchase for my new studio.

I have bought myself a pair of Yamaha HS8’s but also own a pair of Nautilus 805S’s which I’ve been using with an amp.

Separately, I own a eurorack case which I want to incorporate into my workflow.

I am into producing psytrance and ambient music in ableton and am looking for a high quality audio interface so I can make use of my HS8’s.

I’d also like to have the option to be able to occasionally record guitar into ableton when my friend comes over and brings his.

Ideally the dream flow here is being able to record eurorack into ableton, affect my eurorack modules with abletons effects, use my Yamaha HS8’s and occasionally record guitar into my ableton or affect the guitars sounds by playing it into Eurorack.

I am aware I’m asking multiple questions here as Eurorack is a seperate topic, but I did feel it is worth mentioning it in the post incase anyone has experience with that and what I’m asking as well.

What would be the best audio interface for such a thing? I’m not really that interested in recording audio, I probably would like a line in for mics but I really don’t need a ton of them like in the Scarlett i820 that was recommended to me recently.

The goal here is music production, mixing my tracks and finishing songs basically. Ideally low latency.

I don’t have a huge budget but anything around 700-900 dollars or below would be ideal.

Thanks in advance ❤️

New to the digital world

Hey y’all, I haven’t done any kind of recording on a computer in like twenty years, last time I did I was just recording my cabinet into a daw called audacity. I’ve never owned a computer before either, it was the singers. But I got my first computer a MacBook Pro and a focusrite solo. I’ve seen some people recreate album tones using their amp and an ir. But like I said I’ve never had a computer before and am not quite a tech savvy person. But I would like to get any info anyone would like to share about a good easy to learn D.A.W. Amp sims for thrash/ metal music. Same thing with ir’s. I’ll probably try to find a subreddit for NAMM the free amp modeler to try and learn how to find captures and use them.

How do you know when your track is actually finished?

I keep going back and forth on my tracks.

At some point I don’t know if I should:

  • keep tweaking the mix
  • move to mastering
  • or just call it done

Sometimes it sounds good in my setup but not elsewhere.
How do you decide a track is really finished ?

Small room guitar recording

My room is about 8×10, and I’d like to run my amps at a solid volume while recording guitars. What are some good options for miking a 2×12 cabinet in a space this size, while still being able to monitor through headphones or monitors? Would gobos make any noticeable difference in a small room like this? And are there closed-back headphones that can block out enough of the amp to be useful while tracking?

For those that have used digital multitracks...

... what are the pros and cons of using a multitrack over a DAW. My current DAW of choice is Ableton, benn using it since 2016 and am overall very happy with it. However the concept of a multitrack appeals to me, mainly because it removes the PC aspect.

My main question: is mixing/mastering possible? If so, this will most likely require some kind external EQ, compression, reverb, for the mastering. How doable is this?

If anyone has hands-on experience with this set-up I would appreciate your input.

TIA

Any reason why I couldn’t use these as a frame for bass traps in my small studio?

I’d stack 2 in each corner and cut and fill with rockwool then cover with acoustic material. Looking for options that don’t require much carpentry I guess.

Any similar suggestions for wall panelling as well?

How to connect an Audio Interface (Audient iD44) to an Amplifier (Marantz Stereo 70s)

Hello! I'm rather new to this and have some questions because i'm stuck :(

I have an iD44 Audio Interface and a Marantz Stereo 70s Amplifier, and I would like to get the sound through the amp into my passive speakers.

So I tried retrieving the audio from the interface into the amp using the ''Line Outputs'' of the AI and the CBL/SAT on the Amp by using a 6.35 TRS to RCA cable from ''J&D'' I got on amazon, but I get not audio.

I tried a lot of things but it's like either the cable doesn't work for what i'm trying to achieve or i'm missing something and it can't work regardless.

Can someone elighten me?

Thank you in advance ~

Is the JDK AUDIO EQ R-24 any good?

^(there's one for sale by me for $850. I don't see much about these, but I heard they are part of API umbrella so they must not the terrible.. or the fact they are rarely being sold on Reverb.)

advice on a dynamic mic for recording vocals and acoustic guitars in a bedroom? Needs to noise rejection. My current list is the SM57, SE V7, Sennhesier E609 & MD241 Kompact.

Curious to know why people say the e609 isn’t good for vocals, whereas the rest are seen as sort of a jack of all trades. Needs to be under £250 new btw, even that’s a stretch. Lmk your thoughts. For my tone is kinda Michael Jackson/the weeknd ish if that helps.

Bought Audient Interface B-Stock

Hi,

i bought an audient id14 mkii interface (b-stock). Wanted to enjoy my weekend playing with it but the previous owner already registered the product. Unfortunately without a registered product there is no way to download the drivers or id software and the support does not work again before monday. If someone has the file for the id software (the file should be called iD v4.3.19.exe or something similar) for this interface i would really appreciate if you could send it to me. I can also prove that i have officially bought the interface from thomann.
Thanks!

Filling 2U Of Rack Space

As far as rackmount sound gear goes, what would you suggest adding in this space; one 2U piece or two 1U pieces?

I have an MPC2000XL and an MPC2500, so as much as I would love an S3000XL, I don't think I NEED one.
