NGD! Gretsch white penguin

Gretsch white penguin! Is the final guitar I wanted to add to my collection. I’m 26 and I never thought I’d ever get two of my grail guitars.

Today I joined the Gretsch family

After playing my Ibanez GIO for the last ~10 years, I wanted an upgrade. Something that feels different from what I am used to. After searching online for much longer than I care to admit, I found the Electromatic Premier Jet in the Clairvoyant finish.

I fell in love with it as soon as I saw that chameleon finish and the overall aesthetic of the guitar. I read through the specs and I knew that it would be the guitar for me.

I'm afraid these pictures don't do justice to just how gorgeous this guitar is in reality. It plays like a dream, the compound radius is really great and the Sphera Twin Six humbuckers cover everything I could ever need.

The neck really surprised me, because it's not a lot thicker than my Ibanez. It's really really comfortable to play, and the ebony fretboard feels so nice and smooth.

Overall there are no flaws with this guitar and I couldn't be happier. If you are currently on the fence about trying the Electromatic Premier Jet: go for it. In my humble opinion, its such an amazing guitar.

Let me know if there's any questions I might be able to answer if you want to know more about the guitar. Cheers!

G2622T Upgraded to fake Chris Cornell ES-335

And oh my god, I wanted to give up and smash the thing 63 times trying to get the pots in!
- Removed gloss finish, sprayed several matte clear coats
- Replaced all electronics
-CTS 500k mini-pots
-Switchcraft Switch and Jack
- clear, numberless knobs
- Lollartron Pickups
- Gotoh Tune-o-matic bridge
- Grover 102N Tuners
- Hand-“brushed” all hardware to give it a brushed nickel feel.

A true labor of love and it sounds incredible! And yes, I know the low E string is off the saddle in the pic 🫤.

Looking for some opinions

I just got a G2420T recently that came straight in the box from the factory. Out of the box, it’s in pretty dire need of a pro setup to fix some immediate detuning issues. I had planned on taking it to a shop next week for this but also threw it on Marketplace just to test possibly trading for another Gretsch that’s got some tested miles on it.

A guy offered me a 5622T. From what I’ve gotten from him, it’s in great condition still. It’s had some mods - upgraded pickups (which he’s taking to a luthier Monday to swap back to the original BT’s - I’m okay with that, I like the BT’s) and it’s also had a upgraded TV jones wiring harness - not super familiar with that stuff so not sure if it’s a good upgrade or what. New knobs are going on the pots Monday as well. I did note that the neck has the older style fretboard inlays its got some years.

Anyway - wanted to get y’all’s opinion. On paper the 5622T seems like a potential upgrade. I’m not married to one being a full hollow vs a semi-hollow. I have no issues with my current guitar aside from it needs a setup, so if y’all think I’m better off with what I have, I’ll go that route still.

First Gretsch - What a find

I recently bought this from a Craigslister who didn’t quite know what they had. It needed some love from a local tech to address input jack and volume potentiometer issues, as well as a standard setup, but it plays great and sounds fantastic now. Really happy with this 6128 Player’s Edition.

Made some room in the collection for this beauty that arrived today. Holy crap is she amazing! Did a quick and dirty clean, restring, and setup and boy does she sing. Came with the OHSC and inspection tag, and an NOS pack of Power Slinky's with the price tag: $4.99! Those were the days!

Wanted a Gretsch since a long time. I wasnt sure what model because I heard quite some opinions on everything.

I then went to a store and tried this synchromatic Falcon. It looked Great and it plays so well. Quality is amazing even if its not Japan.

Really happy

NGD (Son’s new Gretsch)

My son has been listing after this Gretsch for weeks and we finally found one. It sounds a bit dark for my taste, but he over the moon

I have never owned a Gretsch but I walked into this store to look at Teles or see if they might have a SG i'm interested in, and the guys said "Have you ever tried a Brian Setzer Hot Rod, we think it's the best sounding guitar in the store". They have many more expensive guitars in this store but indeed, this one sounded and felt better than the rest. Better than the Gretsch Pro Falcon in there IMO.

They want $2,000 flat for it, which I think is a fair deal (used).

Has my time come to own a Gretsch?

The local symphony hires me to play for their pops concerts. I typically bring my Gretsch for these gigs.

Got myself a new shirt, fit for the sub.

I'd eyed it up the last couple times in Rockmount Ranch Wear and decided I needed as they only had one more in my size. Not sure where I'll wear it, other than shows. Any suggestions?

Hello, everyone. For a long while I’ve wanted a Gretsch electric. I’ve got an acoustic that I think is truly great and, of course, I’ve heard great things about their electric guitars. I still don’t know which model to buy but I want to get your take on, for example, if it should have a Bigsby or not. I don’t really play lead, but I do play a hell of a lot of rhythm. This guitar will be for home studio use only, not for playing live.

I’m starting a project in which I’ll be recording an enormous amount of my songs. I have different acoustics, a PSR with push pull pots, a Tele, and a Strat SSS. I play rock pop music and many of my songs I’ll be changing to a Latin pop rock sound (I live in Latin America).

So, what do you think? What could an electric Gretsch guitar add to my sound? What kind of pickups? Broadtron, P-90s, or others? Bigsby or no Bigsby? Intonation and tuning stability issues with those? Hollow, center-block, solid?

I can’t really spend more than maybe $800-$1000 because I’ve already invested a lot in this project. One thing I love about Gretsch is that there is a lot of quality in budget options.

I’m open to any and all opinions from those that actually know Gretsch, the players.

Thanks!

This is a vintage Gretsch, i think it's a Chet Atkins Country Gentleman, with a serial number in the 29000s, making it around 1960. From what i can tell, the hardware looks like it's original, just missing the felt on the damper. Some fret wear and wear on the knobs and vibrato, neck needs an adjustment, the electronics worked 10 years ago, the last time it came out of the case, but i assume they'd have to be replaced regardless.

i would like to sell it within the next 4 months or so, and have a budget of around 1200 us dollars to spend on repair. I'm looking for guidance on whether or not i should pay for repair and restoration and try to sell it to a player, or sell it directly to a guitar restorer. It has a little bit of a provenance in that it previously belonged to Chubby Wise, fiddler for Flatt and Scruggs and Bill Monroe. Any help?

Low volume on bridge pick up

I've just picked up a second hand streamliner, love the guitar plays really well but the bridge pickup seems to be slightly quieter than the neck? Not massively but when you swap between the two there's a noticeable drop between the neck and the bridge. I've raised the bridge as close as I can without the strings hitting it and lowered the neck as much as I dare but there's still a difference. It's from 2016 I believe, I read the pickup selectors tend to get corroded if it's been sat around for a while, so I've sprayed it with contact cleaner and switched it hundreds of times and the problem still persists, anyone got any ideas? (Yes I have made sure all the volume pots are all the way up)
