So Futon Tokyo is the goat?

Finding an authentic japanese futon seems to be pretty controversial, but the consensus Ive gotten from this sub is that Futon Tokyo is the best? Can anyone experienced in the futon lore confirm before I drop a grand on this?
Thanks :)

Trauma-related floor sleeping: How to properly insulate against a freezing tile floor?

TL;DR: I have a phobia of bed frames due to trauma and can only feel safe sleeping on the floor. However, the cold tile floor is draining my energy and ruining my recovery. I need advice on DIY or professional insulation (cardboard, mats, tatami) to stay warm all year round.

Post:

I'm feeling incredibly frustrated right now because I've hit a breaking point. I woke up at 4 PM today, completely exhausted, because I spent the entire night shivering. This happens way too often and it’s stalling my recovery.

I struggle with CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), and I have a deep phobia of bed frames/springs because of past trauma. The floor is the only place that feels "immutable" and safe to me. It’s where I feel grounded. But right now, my setup is just a mattress on a thin plastic mat on top of a tile floor. In May, with the rain and temperature drops, the tiles act like a heat sink and suck all the warmth out of my body.

I need to make this work long-term, even in winter. I’m thinking about using layers of cardboard, thick blankets under the mattress, or maybe investing in a Japanese tatami or a professional thermal mat. I also need to get better at preparing my "survival kit" (clean warm clothes and extra blankets ready) so I don't have to think when I'm crashed at night.

Does anyone have experience with permanent floor sleeping in cold/uninsulated houses? What are the best materials to create a truly airtight thermal barrier between the mattress and a cold floor?

Best way to sleep inclined on the floor?

If we can combine floor sleeping with inclined sleeping that would be a great combination. I would like to sleep on the floor, but I also believe in inclined sleeping 7 inches for better glymphatic drainage and reflux prevention etc.

Does anyone know any equipment that is non-toxic to sleep inclined on the floor or closest thing to sleeping on the floor? I know there are foam wedges, but I'm a bit concerned about the chemicals in those. I was not able to find a simple way to elevate a minimalist surface.

Need Recommendation for Latex Topper Floor Sleeping

Can anyone please tell me what latex topper works well for them for floor sleeping? I would like a specific recommendation of the topper that works for them. If not the specific topper then the specifications like ILD etc. would be helpful. I want to make sure I get one that works well for the right firmness for the floor that won't bottom out and is not for on a bed. Thank You. Anything else you can tell me about what good habits would be helpful. Such as picking up the topper and hanging it up during the day to keep it dry. Need for tatami matt under it.

Blackout sleep but not feeling particularly well rested?

I've been trying to sleep on the floor for 2 weeks now, and I've been alternating setups (positions and pillows and ways to sleep) because sleep itself was miserable (not feeling rested at all, insomnia, waking up 3-4 times in the night so fragmented sleep, etc.)

Now, I believe I found a good setup, as the first night of this I blacked out completely I believe. Same with the next nights, complete blackout like I don't remember any sleep awakenings so I think it's a positive sign.

However, I still don't really feel that feeling of being well-rested ish.

Any thoughts?

Zonli 2.5" Too Thick/Soft?

I recently purchased a Zonli 2.5" thick Japanese floor mattress and actually think it's too thick/soft for me coming from an EMOOR futon. Anyone else think the Zonli is not hard enough? I wake up with a sore back unfortunately. Sleeping on my thin camping pad now until I can get another EMOOR or similar. Think the Zonli just being made of foam is too soft compared to the fiberfill with thin foam in the EMOOR.

Does anyone know if there's a place to get (original) Japanese futons in Europe?

[storytime] There's that website a lot of people recommended here and there (Futon Beds from Japan)... They even have a running banner saying "shipping takes 2-3 days to US, 6-9 days to Europe" or something like that. So I was not really looking further, and a few days ago I decided to make a purchase.

Well, it's obviously my fault for not looking, but for me, "Europe" means "Europe", or at least the "EU Countries".... but it turns out that for them, "Europe" means some randomly selected countries. I can select Austria, Germany, some countries on the north, and that's all. Nevertheless, my country (Hungary) is not on the list, even though it's part of Europe for a 1000+ years or something, and part of EU for 20+ years... Of course I dropped them an email asking about it, but it's been a week and they have not replied.

So I might need to look for an alternative option, but it is really hard to find something where they sell actual futons and not just something they decided to call a futon...[/storytime]

Do anyone knows a place where I could get one?

TLDR: Would like to get Japanese futon in Europe, and the FutonBedsFromJapan everyone seem to be recommending does not ship to my country

I'm curious what everyone is using for a pillow and mattress and what thickness and material is its filling and cover.

I'm currently using an Indian cotton gadda bed and a fiber pillow. The pillow has lasted me a long time but it runs a little hot in the summer, the mattress is due for a change soon since its flattened out over the years

I am so close to purchasing a shikibuton from futonbedsfromjapan. I sleep on a “regular” mattress on my stomach and wake up with back and neck pain and feel stiff. If I get the shikibuton I plan on sleeping on my back. I recently found out that sleeping on your back can lead to sleep apnea and snoring, and also the possibility of it contributing to dementia although more studies are needed. I’d love to hear from anyone here who sleeps on their back -has it made you snore or cause sleep apnea? I think it would be the best position to relieve back and neck pain.

I spend an hour doing yoga, feel amazing, and then sleep undoes everything! It will be so wonderful to do yoga, go to sleep, wake up and not feel that sleep has undone everything yoga helps with.

Another hesitation is giving up the superficial comfort of a bed. I understand it causes pain rather than comfort, but in the moment it feels like comfort. Sleeping on the floor goes out of the comfort zone. I have slept on the floor multiple times when staying at others’ homes. Most of the times were on a memory foam pad which was awful. One of the other times was on a futon from j-life for a few months. I actually really enjoyed the futon from j-life, it was very comfortable and is what got me interested in looking for a shikibuton. I’ve since read the posts about how j-life is not the real deal. I witnessed how heavy and bulky they are to move! and they don’t fold well. but the experience of sleeping on it was nice. When I went back to my house, I was relieved to have a couch, but I missed the j-life futon. I think I preferred the j-life futon to a mattress and I hope I will feel that way (or better) about the real deal from futonbedsfromjapan. although I know it’s way thinner than j-life.

Hi! I bought tatami mats and shikibuton (3 inch organic wool and latex) from the futon shop a year and a half ago and have been sleeping on them ever since. I like it however recently I’ve been noticing recently the surface has compressed and become too firm. I do fold it up and rotate it but it still happened, after only a year and a half, and it’s creating numbness in my limbs upon waking up. I’m about to go through surgery in a month and be in bed a lot so I want to fix this soon. I wanted to hear others’ perspectives on the futon—do you think I need to be on a softer thicker mattress, or is the brand and the materials the issue? I would prefer to not buy something that will wear out in 1-2 years. Has anyone else experienced this? Are the Japanese ones better, and how do you know? Thank you so much for any insight & perspectives!

I have been sleeping on a setup with a tatami mat and shikifuton from the Futon Shop about a year. The problem is it has dipped in the middle and I am not sleeping well lately. I do fold it up regularly and sun it roughly once a week. I even went to look at mattresses today, and honestly they all seemed to suck for the price lol.

Anyway, I am thinking about ordering one from Futon Beds from Japan, but my two concerns are the futon shop thickness I have is 5 inches, so I am worried it won't be as fluffy. Also, if it dips in the middle after a year too it's a waste.

What do you guys think/recommend?
