Do that many people really have almost 7k to spend on a machine?

absolute newb here. I make coffee for my partner but don’t really drink it. I just like being obsessive about stuff lol.

I see so many people with the LM línea mini on here and I assume for a hobby group it was like 2-3k not almost 7k after taxes. I have my own expensive hobby and that seems so crazy high to me to see so many people have it.

is it just the Reddit experience of only seeing the top 1% or is that machine really that good that so many people buy one?

Lance making soup at WOC.

First time drinking soup and not bad at all even with one of the cheapest grinders out there.

Bean was from Sey.

Also never had so much coffee in a single day in my life.

Anyone find Hoffman at WOC?

My Happy Place

Decided to treat myself to an upgraded setup for getting a new job after being laid off last year. Ended up getting a Timemore 064S + a (new to me) GCP - huge upgrade in terms of workflow and dialing in coming from my old Kingrinder K6 + BBE setup. I also considered the Profitec Go but just couldn’t justify the price as someone who mainly drinks Americanos. Might consider modding with a Gaggimate down the line, but very happy with everything for now.

Always looking for new beans to try so please send recommendations. Cheers!

I designed my own countertop coffee grounds bin

Hey everyone, I’m fairly new to the world of espresso. Just got a modest new machine and being the perfectionist I am, I look for efficient ways to equip myself with all the surrounding tools.

One of the biggest challenges was to find a coffee grounds bin that didn’t cost too much and because I started playing around with 3D printing, I decided to design my own.

I have created this version with optimized reinforcements where needed so it can endure the most powerful tap on the bar. The lid is optional, and honestly I leave it aside because it tends to hold moisture inside the bin and I also love the smell of coffee when it’s open.

Let me know you’re thought ;)

Dual Boiler to Bambino?!

My original BDB bit the dust and the group head assembly I need to fix it isn’t available, so I “downgraded” to a Bambino.

Shots are surprisingly just as good!

The steam on the Bambino is so, so much worse, but I’ll get used to it.

Edit: It seems the consensus is 30-45 seconds to steam 8oz of milk, and mine is taking ~90, so something wonky is going on.

My little coffee station :)

I love my coffee station, is not the most fancy one but gives great espresso! Have a good weekend guys. Breville Bambino Plus + DF54, Alma Coffee (recommended)

Home Coffee Station: Lelit Bianca V3 + Niche Zero & Fiorenzato Allground

Super happy with my new set up. Just upgraded from the Breville/Sage Dual Boiler and also added the Fiorenzato Allground GBW so I can entertain bigger groups of people hassle free. What do you think might be the next step for a single dose grinder?

Home made bike pump espresso machine demo

https://reddit.com/link/1siob87/video/hc1382f2clug1/player

I've been working on this for so long. Trying to get 9 bar in an areopress and have flow control. I started with levers, but then found Mikki's DIY Obsessions on YouTube and switched to the bike pump. I just want to show it off now its finaly working, so without further ado, my completely manual, pneumatic, flow control, espresso machine powered by a bike pump...

First shot [Profitec go + Mignon zero]

First shot with Profitec Go

23 seconds total time, no scale yet. I upgraded from a cheap 100$ machine with pre-ground coffee to Profitec Go and Mignon Zero and honestly I don’t see how the coffee now is better, maybe I have not developed the taste yet but I have been drinking coffee in bars for a long time.

I noticed that the pressurised basket gets almost same taste every time, so what I liked with that old machine was that it was able to pull a sweet shot with a long output, most likely because it run in pretty quickly.

I can do that with this new setup by grinding at level 3, it comes out pretty fast but gets the sweet taste.

Grinding at level 1 pulls the shot slower but picks up more sourness and acidity which I don’t like.

Still experimenting with it, I bought 2 100gr tester beans from a shop and I don’t think those are good enough to beat the cheap machine yet.

Still going strong, upgrade suggestions?

Been over 9 months since getting this setup and it’s going great, but I was curious if yall reckon bumping up to a df64 grinder and the new fellow espresso series 1 machine would be a good upgrade. Also check out this iced double ristretto latte!

Upgrading my setup! [No budget]

Hello everyone!!

so as the title suggests,I want to upgrade my entry level setup.

I am using the Breville mini with a Pascale grinder.

My wife is super pleased with it as is but I feel that the coffee shots are different every time and perhaps underextracted.

I was thinking of pairing either Gaggia e24 with df54 or going all out and buying profitec go and an eureka mignon manuale.

I was thinking of buying the grinder first and in about half an year upgrade the Breville.

*notes

the sealing rubber on the Breville is failing (i think) as lately coffee started to leak

we are about to move and need money for a major renovation

sorry for the awkward wording English is my third language

Incredible Beans!

My brother in law just sent me these Linea beans from San Francisco where he lives. Have never heard of this roaster, but wow, incredible! Roasted about 2 weeks ago. If anyone has purchased from them in the past, can you recommend another blend? For sure going to order from them. One of the notes is butterscotch and you can really taste it. Highly recommended..

Is upgrading from Mara X to Linea Micra actually worth it for taste

I’m currently thinking about upgrading from a Lelit Mara X V2 to a Linea Micra and trying to figure out if this would actually improve my espresso or if it’s mostly an expensive workflow upgrade.

My current setup:

Lelit Mara X V2

Eureka Mignon Specialita

Beans: Wild at Heart from 19grams

I can hit the recommended recipe pretty consistently in terms of ratio and shot time. On paper everything looks right, but the taste still doesn’t match what I get from good cafés.

Another issue is consistency. Some shots turn out really good, others are just average, even though I’m not intentionally changing anything.

So I’m trying to understand:

Is the machine the limiting factor here and would a Linea Micra with dual boiler and better temperature stability noticeably improve taste

Or is this more about grinder, water and overall workflow, and the machine would only make a small difference

Who was at WOC (World of Coffee SD) today?

What cool stuff did you get to use?

As for me:

La Marzocco let you pull shots from all their single group machines. Used the Leva X and it was kinda meh. The volumetric piston thing is super gimmicky which most won't use after a while.

Wendougee Data S and Lira were nice machines. Looked and felt well built and the tablet worked nicely. Did a lever style shot.

Zerno grinders are solidly built. The magnets in some parts are too strong which is good and bad. I want a Z2 with ULF burrs.

Still don't know what the Acaia Horizon is supposed to do.

XBloom is actually pretty good at making pour over if you are feeling extremely lazy.

Couldn't find meticulous even though they're supposed to be there somewhere.

How do you make portafilter filters?

I make my own 2” / 51mm paper filters for the portafilter by hand cutting, but I want an easier way. There’s a [slick 3D-printed device to do this](https://www.reddit.com/r/espresso/s/xbqzVZiFcE). I’ve also tried to use 2” paper circle cutter punch presses you can get at Amazon for like $10; they don’t work.

Other options?

NOTE there are medical cholesterol-reducing motivations for filtering espresso. Personally I do not taste any difference, preferential or otherwise, using the filters.

Something I’ve never seen before 🤔

Was on the hunt for a new roaster when I stumbled across a roaster that possibly be interested in, I clicked on a couple of there offerings to see what ma take my fancy & it lets you select the roast level you would like it to be roasted to ….. I have never seen that before 🤷‍♂️

Has anyone else ?

Surely the tasting notes would be all over the place,

EDIT !!

This isn’t a filter for pre roasted beans,

this is an option for you to select the roast level the green beans would be roasted to & it is roasted fresh. Large selection of coffee on offer and you decide how you would like the coffee to be roasted.

WPM Latte Art Cup

Has anyone tried to pour latte art with the WPM (Welhome Pro) latte art cup? I’m curious about your results and experiences in comparison to other coffee cups.
