Husband dug through my bag to “find his sunglasses”. This *was* a tidy cake of yarn. Arrrggh.

Image is a tangled mess of purple dk yarn, with a simple stockinette hat WIP attached.

I guess I'm continuing my knitting break then because I can't imagine shooing her away 😭

So I took a bathroom break from knitting and my dearest furbaby took a comfy spot over my skeins ❤️ I'm so close to finishing the back and front panels, but I don't have a heart to tell her to move!

My first knitted sweater ! (first knitting project, and look at the result!)

My first knitted sweater !

Before this, I didn't know how to knit. I had crocheted occasionally for a year before, and I told myself this was the perfect opportunity to learn to knit and use up my leftover yarn.

I started with a stockinette sample (where I twisted all the stitches); and I went for it without a pattern: I just copied the shape of my favorite sweater.

After making the model and a new sample (now without twisting!), I started knitting the body in the round, then continued flat to shape the chest and back, and finally the sleeves in the round which I sewed on at the end, finishing with elastic.

With this project I learned to knit, to increase and decrease stitches, different stitches, and to work with double strands. And I LOVE the result!

I hope you like it as much as I do!

Materials: 8mm needle and worsted wool scraps from crochet projects, double strand knitting.

I knittes the Twin Peaks Slipover while re-watching the show

Its my first post here but I'm so proud of my work, as its my second ever colorwork - it was inspired by the iconic Red Room from Twin Peaks (yes, I was crying while making calculation on colorwork, damn you Stitch Fiddle).

The base pattern for slipover is Stockholm Slipover by PetiteKnit, just added my own colorwork and make some small adjustments

Thoughts on this baby sweater as a gift for a coworker?

I have not started on the sleeves because someone will be showing me how to avoid gaps.

But what do you think overall of this baby sweater? This will be more suitable for 3 months old.

An exercise in improvisation to get through my hospitalization, knitting edition

So I got a PICC line (a special kind of IV that can stay in for weeks) today for chemo this weekend, and they gave me one of those atrocious hospital socks with the toe cut off to protect it when not in use. Well, as a knitter, that just won't do! 🤣 So I raided my sock yarn leftovers stash and am knitting up a sleeve that will at least look cool while I have this thing for the next 16 days.

Old-world scarf made from a YouTube Pattern that reminded me of my school days

Hey folks! Here’s sharing a super comfortable and super easy to make tie-up scarf the pattern of which I found on YouTube.

I knit all the way up to ~7 inches with 12 cast-on and then increased stitches every alternate row till I reached the breadth I wanted and then decreased all the way (alternate rows) till there were 12 cast on left and knit the other end for 7 inches. A tip: use stitch markers to note transitions of the beginning of increases and decreases. Please check the link for exact instructions though (Search Indian style scarf and you should find it).

I used Vardhman Magnus (India) bulky yarn on size 4 needles. Around 1.5 skein was enough. The project was quite fast to finish, within ~2-3 days.

This is me wearing the scarf evidently happy with the outcome :-)

I finished the Girly Knits Bra Top and I love the fit!

I don't usually use patterns but it seemed like a cute and also quicker knit. It had a few techniques I had never used like ssk, ssp, M1R and M1L so I thought it would be a fun learning opportunity.

I made two mods, I added 5 rows of stockinette after the ribbing and made the straps out of garter instead of icord :)

Pattern is the Girly Knits Bra Top and it's free (and has a video tutorial if you need it) :

My stupid Canadian wolf bird sweater WIP! So close to being done with the body

Pattern is The Loon Sweater by cmknits. Yarn is Cascade 220. I was already thinking about making this sweater before I saw heated rivalry, but I’ll admit that heated rivalry is what inspired me to pull the trigger on this project. I’m really loving how this is coming along.

I used ladder back jacquard to manage my floats on the colorwork sections, and I’m a little concerned about the visibility of the setup row, but hopefully those will become less noticeable once it’s all blocked.

New to knitting and surprised at the high cost of yarn

I started knitting in the last few months and quickly became hooked. Ive made a few hats and made tons of swatches with different stitches. Its been such a lovely way to detox from mindless phone use. I finally felt ready to tackle a sweater and went to a local knitting store to get yarn. It was the most lovely experience, the employee was SO helpful (even held my baby while I was being indecisive), and the folks at the knitting table were so kind. I then had kind of a gut punch moment when I mentally added up that the cost for the cheapest was going to be nearly $150 for all I needed. I wanted to pay it out of respect for all of their time but just couldn't swing it this month. It kind of took the wind out of my sails.

How is everyone affording all of their awesome projects? Do you just go for the big name stores materials or are you just spending a ton? I want to support local but damn...

In desperate need of project ideas for a kilo of this yarn

I just got my hands on a full kilogram of this hand spun, undyed wool yarn. However, some mistakes were made.

It's VERY scratchy. I knew that this would be the case going in, and I originally planned on using it for winter socks and stuff. However, mistake number 2: the recommended needle size was 4-4.5mm, and even in the photos it seemed thinner than it is. In the sample i used 5mm needles and it's making a super thick fabric.

I want to hand dye it for sure, but i don't know what i could use it for. It's 130m/100g with an approximate gauge of 16x22, but that can vary.

Any idea is appreciated

P.s. I fully plan to order one more kilo of the thinner weight for socks, since it's otherwise a lovely material.

I made a set of milk yarn driving gloves for summer

I had been batting around the idea of fingerless gloves as a learner project, but it's my fingers that get cold, so why would I want that? Then I was thinking about how I wished I had something to insulate my hands against the hot steering wheel, but not too bulky to make me feel clumsy, or too thick and warm because of summer. My husband impulse bought me this milk yarn, and here we are

is this a frog or can it be saved with some blocking?

I recently started the stranded sheep scarf by metalheavy on revelry, and its my first try with dpks and colourwork (I know, I know, but I can only motivate myself to try new stuff when I really like the end result). Anyways, it's become really wavy, despite me trying to keep my floats pretty loose and stretching them sometimes. Can this block out? Or should I just restart lol. I read somewhere that by knitting the single colour sections tight and then the colourwork areas as loose as possible it might help, but I don't know if that's true. Appreciate any advice :))

New grandchildren...new sweaters! After many years, I've created patterns for babies

New grandchildren...new sweaters!

After many years, I've created patterns for babies aged 3, 6, and 9 months.

I calculated the stitch count for my handwork using size 3 or 4 knitting needles.

This matching set of bandana and tiny scarf got me out of a knitting slump!!

I was in a really bad knitting slump but these got me out!! It’s the Britney Bandana by Passive Royal and the French Twist by Caro In the City. I didn’t use the recommended yarn for either of them and opted for the Fonty Super Tweed. I also added the yellow bordering with a simple crochet slip stitch. I really like them!!!

Looking for advice on buying knitting needles as a gift

My girlfriend’s birthday is coming up and she’s really into knitting. She’s mentioned she prefers metal/steel needles (not wooden), and said “nice ones are like £100”.

I don’t know anything about knitting — I think she currently just has cheaper/basic needles and I want to upgrade her to something really good.

From what I’ve seen, interchangeable circular needle sets seem like the way to go, but not sure which brands are best.

Does anyone have recommendations for:

Best metal interchangeable sets?

Brands worth spending on (Addi, KnitPro, ChiaoGoo etc?)

Anything to avoid?

Happy to spend around £80–£120 if it’s worth it.

Thanks

What is this white thread for on this sweater I bought?

I bought this sweater while traveling and of course as a knitter I had to examine it in detail. I noticed this white thread on the wrong side and was wondering what it could have been for. Is it a lifeline? It doesn’t go through every stitch and is only really visible on the front if you stretch the sweater out. It’s also only on one side of the neck and not the other.

Yarn recommendations for summer yarns in muted Earth tones?

Due to sensory issues, I don't like to have my arms exposed, even in the summer.

I typically wear linen, but i've been thinking that I want to knit myself some summer sweaters and summer wrap tops.

I typically wear muted Earth tones and I am having trouble finding yarn that is hot weather friendly and the right color.

I wear a lot of forest green, burnt orange, mulberry, etc. Thank you for your suggestions!
